John Cena had such an unforgettable debut against Kurt Angle. From day one John proved he had Star power, wrestled a great match and made an immediate impact in WWE. He would go on to become one of the all time greats, a wrestling legend and now a Hollywood star. What a journey.

He is too harsh on himself here. The whole ruthless aggression thing was a promo vince cut the Monday prior about austin leaving and new talent needing to step up. That's what cena did challenging angle, and I thought the ruthless aggression was just a nod to that challenge by mcmahon on monday, not his actual gimmick. He did everything wonderfully. It was his follow up that almost lead him to be let go, but how interesting can you be feuding with Billy Kidman on the B-show.

You knoow, maybe Cena not being as 'ruthless' or 'aggressive' as he described was a blessing. A certain someone tried to be ruthless and aggressive with Kurt Angle - that didn't work out well for him. At all. 😂

Man I’ve always thought Cenas debut was top tier. But hearing him talk about it himself, makes you realize how much better it could’ve been if he had been more savvy to the business. ‘Ruthless aggression’ John cena should’ve been his first gimmick. Instead it ended up not being a gimmick at all.

The great Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas began his legend in the same way as John; He made his debut at the age of 19 in Real Madrid because Santiago Cañizares, the starting goalkeeper, had an injury a day before and they did not have another substitute goalkeeper. It seems that people who are destined to achieve great deeds or achievements often have destiny on their side :)

I question his logic when he said "Or I could've come out and been a pacifist" because I'm wondering what a "pacifist" would look like in the ruthless aggression era. Would he let his opponets just beat him up??? How would you be able to portray "ruthless aggression" by being a pacifist? I'm genuinly curious, like how would that work????
@Somnogenesis
@Somnogenesis 2 ай бұрын
I took his point to be that by _claiming_ to have "ruthless aggression" but then _behaving_ in a pacifistic manner (running away from combat in classic cowardly heel manner), it would create instant heel heat. And he could then have leaned into that character and got over as a hypocritical, snivelling bad guy straight away
@playinsanity5133
@playinsanity5133 2 ай бұрын
Because he wanted the crowd to either really love him or really hate him. An extreme reaction is what you want from the WWE crowd because that makes you memorable. By going the pacifist route, he (in theory) would have an adverse reaction towards his character because he didn't live up to what he says he was. Much like how Santino Marella kept acting like he's the best but he's really a clown - people loved his character. John Cena's problem was that he played it safe to the point where the crowd just had a mild reaction to him which then makes him forgettable. At least thats what he thinks.
