You are 100% correct. It was one thing when he had a smaller following and everything was more manageable. But how do people not understand that as he levels up, he's going to need help? Instead of having to beg people for appropriate recommendations, he could have someone doing the research for him. And him being "of the culture" doesn't mean he's intimately acquainted with the local culture everywhere he goes, or the kind of effects his presence will have. Like that one bakery he went to that was being run out of their garage--those people ended up having to move after Keith's review because so many people were showing up to this family's house, they got in trouble. And when he came to NYC, he got yelled at so much for not going to the right borough or ordering the right thing (the infamous salmon chopped cheese incident) that he got disgusted and left. Someone to help coordinate this stuff could help him avoid these pitfalls. And how are these men saying why can't he just stay this small-time humble guy? Keith Lee himself has stated his goals as being grander than that. This man is thinking future TV shows and growth. Maybe those men have a hard time dreaming big, but that doesn't mean Keith does.

Absolutely! I live in The Bay and he left after making a couple stops because the recs he received were primarily struggling businesses and pop ups rather than the actual well put together businesses that deserve a bit more shine. Had he had somebody to sit down do the research that would have been a completely different story.
@Leezy243 ай бұрын
@@arianna5270Serious question though, wasn’t his thing always helping struggling businesses? Like he’d sprinkle in a couple chains and some places that were real put together, but all in all, it’s always been struggling businesses that were the primary focus. While I do think he should get someone to help research, his whole thing is getting recs, going in blind, and rating. Idk, I just don’t think people were gonna be happy no matter what he did.
@A.MoniqueN3 ай бұрын
Right! I live in the DFW & the food tour here (in my opinion) was so all over the place because the city is so huge & there are so many smaller cities/suburbs within the metroplex, therefore, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the choices. Because of this, it turns into driving an hour plus each direction for mediocre food or food that isn’t the best representation of the city. If more research was done, it my opinion, it would avoid the pointless trips that result in a rating that isn’t constructive. Don’t get me wrong a couple of the restaurants that were rated deserved their shine but there were restaurants that weren’t able to be reviewed simply because proper planning/research wasn’t done. Better planning would make for a more seamless, coherent food tour.

I’m a DMV native , and yes a Black woman. Your critique was spot on. The DMV=Maryland, DC, and Northern VA .. It’s a very transient area because of DC, but filled with Natives, and you need a very good cultural strategist to help what Keith was attempting to do here . The areas are somewhat the same vibe, but still extremely different, and yes that’s odd considering the size.. parts of Baltimore natives speak with an accent unlike 25 miles away don’t . The style of music celebrated is different 25 miles away , one part loves GoGo, 20 miles away hates it. The style of cultural dress differs depending on the county. When Keith said he doesn’t partake in seafood “I knew it wasn’t going to go well,, Maryland is a seafood capital, and the rest of the area indulges heavy because the Chesapeake Bay surrounds us all.. He got recommendations from Ticktock,, you need a a person with a knowledge of historical background, and much knowledge in cultural norms ..lastly,,, the Black boy’s coming for you has helped prove BM as a collective aren’t good at strategy , they never was, but I hold out hope one day they will get a clue… oh yeah the DMV isn’t special with this vast unique urban differences , many other places are the same ,, hence the reason he need’s a cultural strategist to help guide him for continued success.

I think it might be because there is some thing about the cultural programming of men that makes it difficult for them to ask for help. When you take race into account, black men, generally speaking are not taught to ask for help at higher rates than other people because of the dehumanization that is popular in American culture. While it’s not the only reason you can see this reflected in the higher rates of prostate cancer, other types of cancer and illnesses, that black men experience. Black men dying at younger ages than the average man. It’s a matter of systemic deprivation, but also of interpersonal cycles of behavior that have been passed down through the generations. To be honest, I hope that Keith takes your advice, but I also hope that these men can take this as a learning lesson to tap into their community in a healthy way, even if it makes them uncomfortable. But that’s work and sometimes people are not ready to do that uncomfortable work.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Half of the people getting bent out of shape have never been to the DMV....

Most do not understand that you have to spend $ to make money. If that means expanding your team to grow and bring in the experts needed, so be it so you can meet the next milestone you have claimed for yourself and your business. I commented before the whole video finished...I cannot believe you have to explain this!

A lot of people have these para social relationships with social media influencers because more times than not they start off just like them. A regular every day person probably working a 9 to 5 so when it is suggested that this person that they’ve created this “friendship“ with should expand they don’t want that. Keith Lee is no longer the regular every day guy eating food in a car. Keith Lee is a brain and people need to understand that and with that comes people who pay to strategize.

This is like getting mad at someone for suggesting an overwhelmed wealthy Mom with kids and a newborn hire help to make her life flow.

Beautifully... and intellectually said! Valuable and constructive feedback given your own personal experience. My prayer is that this video reaches him or someone on his team. I think it is incredibly substantive and helpful. Keep being you, Joulzey! 🫶🏽

Keith Lee should collaborate with other existing food festivals in major US cities. I know in Atlanta we have a lot of successful food festivals. I love going to the ones at Atlantic Station. They do a Midnight Market where local restaurants host a pop up and they offer menu items that are $5 or less. Keith needs to do more collabs with larger organizations so he can build his reputation more. I feel like more people would attend these food festivals if Keith Lee was a special guest and maybe a judge of the food. He definitely needs to hire a creative agency. I work within this space professionally. I think Keith isn't aware of what is available for him.

I haven’t watched your original TT vids yet but I can’t imagine a Joulzey take being taken out of context to the extent you speak of in this video unlesssssd, the people are intentionally misunderstanding you or…they’re stupid. It could be a little of both but also, they want rage bait content like you said. At any rate, I’ve been watching you your entire career and I have never not understood where you were coming from. I may not have always agreed with your takes but I always appreciate your dedication to research and presenting intelligent, well thought out content.
