Has everyone forgotten that the American business model is to hoard as much as possible, pay as little as possible, and pocket the difference? Suddenly, people are shocked and dismayed with the logical result? Oligarchs laugh when they hear "You're choosing to import cheap labor even if that means putting us out of work????" YES, EXACTLY, AND BY DESIGN.

Unfortunately, this problem goes both ways. Many recipients of the H1B visas believe they are "model" workers and American workers demonize the immigrant workers. The very foundation of the US economy and government was built on having an exploitable labor force. SLAVERY. The incoming administration has plans to abolish the DOE. That alone lets you know they are not invested in educating students in the US.

I realized last year that the best bosses I have ever had belonged to the Islamic faith, and that there are very deliberate instructions in the Quran of how to manage a business and manage your wealth so that it benefits the society. There are rules strictly forbidding interest on loans (Riba). This is not to convert anyone, but I heard a comment that money is the biggest corrupting influence. If that was true, why has our military been so intent on destroying the Muslim world? Everything is connected, and these are the fruits we are reaping.

If you run a business you ment to say you hire an american paying 10x .. For the same job done by someone who does it for 1x.. Simple i went to an american business who charged me 1700 dollars to fix my car front and rear breaks including new rotors . while a Mexican had done that for 500 dollars .. So i got your point.. 😂😂. So you mean to say I need to pay 1700 dollars to american while someone fixed it for 500 dollars.. Dumb just dumb..

That's the part I'm having problems with. The tech industry has been asking for more of these visas for at least 30 years, and it made sense when we've had tech booms and they were hiring like crazy. But the industry has had massive layoffs for the last two years. You can't tell me there aren't American engineers available with tech industry experience who can't fill these jobs. Of course we need programs like the H1B and others, but do we need to increase the number of H1B visas we offer at this time?

First, as a Black man, I was proud seeing a Black woman who was a former human resources executive succinctly breaking down the exploitation of the H1B visa program by oligarchs/corporations in conjunction with federal and state governments. Your professional experiences gave insight to a problem that many of us in the United States have limited knowledge of. Secondly, your point-of-view was also representative of the adage that two things can be true at the same time. In this case, it was like three of four, lol. One - Black people, particularly Black American workers are still last one hired-first one fired, and Black American labor particularly in fields that rely or push for HIB visa labor is being depressed. There many Americans regardless of race, who can do the in many of the industries that rely or push for H1B visa labor. I totally agree that there are some sectors in the American economy where there is shortfall of experienced American workers and H1B visa program does provide labor coverage for those shortfalls. Yet, also you adeptly stated at the same time, massive investments need to be made in the American educational system for future generations to fill these positions, by the federal and state governments. Lastly, the fault lies with oligarchs and/or, corporations exploting these loopholes for profit, and not with H1B visa program employees. At the same time, you do call out the anti-Black racism practiced by H1B administrators and some employees. For over 60 years, the well-publicized, but hidden stereotypical beliefs about Black Americans being "lazy", was tolerated. But when the Musk/Rammiswamy tone-deaf comments about "American culture celebrating mediocrity" and "inexperienced American labor..." those comments no longer had a Black face connected to the negativities in American society. It was now the socalled "average American"...which is mostly viewed as white, and a sh*t storm followed. Your commentary exposes the hypocrisy of capitalism, American politics and xenophobia. It also exposes that anti-Black racism...is a global issue, not merely an American domestic one. I am new subscriber. Keep up the great work sister. I wish you a blessed, safe and prosperous 2025.

" It was now the socalled "average American"...which is mostly viewed as white, and a sh*t storm followed." - with regards to the tech industry, my thoughts are that Musk came to this conclusion because he hired "average Americans" (exclusively) for their businesses and had negative experiences with them. They don't work as hard as those with immigrant parentage because they did not have to.

Full agreed. On the other hand, in the tech sector specifically, we can’t ignore the anti-black element of this conversation, because unfortunately it’s not a separate conversation from the H1B conversation. There is an unfortunate overlap between the H1B program and anti-black bias in tech. there is a known trend in tech where former H1Bs that get their green cards end up rising far enough in the org to wield hiring/firing influence, and they do tend to prefer to hire their own over Americans, and to exclude certain Americans that they deem to be less than. You will see entire teams of a specific ethnicity in a lot of these tech companies, and it’s not for a lack of diversity in the candidate pool. Not all, but many often come with ingrained biases against black people; this is just a fact. Therefore, you end up with situations like the HR whistleblowers that report that their hiring managers specifically asked them not to forward black engineers in the hiring process, while keeping H1Bs on the top of the list. This kind of thing happens often in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Tech is already a competitive culture as it is, but black techies can tell you stories about working with fellow people of color that look down on you. Often, black folks don’t have much recourse when things happen because we have such few allies (especially in the wake of the DEI backlash, which is especially deep and hostile in the tech industry). Racism or hate is not justified in any direction, but this does not mean that we should not be honest about certain realities that exist.

@@kmj2000On the other hand, it is a lot easier for Westerners to get high-paying executive positions in developing countries, simply because these countries do not have the power to mandate that the locals be given priority. Then those Westerners walk around looking down on the locals, convinced that they have the jobs they have because they are "bringing expertise that is not available locally". The truth is that it's a lot easier for me, as a black woman from Africa, to climb the ladder in a large corporation in the US than in Africa. But they are just W; companies do not even like to hire B people with foreign passports, they want W people.

I lived in China (Shanghai) for a few years. I saw some American executives live VERY luxurious lives there (servants at home, cars with chauffeurs, luxurious apartments rented by employer, paid business class vacations every year, etc). How? They moved factories from the US to China and hired factory workers in China for cheap. I also met many Americans teaching English in China - some of them lost their factory jobs in the US, so they moved to China to teach English for low salaries. Sad.

@@ashleyjones5396 It depends. In the early 2000s, English teachers were paid well. But later, the Chinese started to realise that westerners came to China to teach English because they were unable to find good jobs in their home countries - then the Chinese started exploiting these westerners and paid them low wages. Yes, FT's (foreign teachers) in international schools were paid well, but this is NOT universally true. I know that in 2018, in one Chinese university, foreign teachers were paid about 9000 yuan a month (= 1300 USD) + free housing - poor guys, they were unable to save much. Cost of living is low in smaller cities, but expensive in places like Shanghai. Chinese food is cheap, but foreign food is expensive - sometimes even more expensive than in the US because the chefs were flown into China on work visas.

I see not discussed everywhere is how the US has used H1B as a diplomatic tool to gain access to the Indian markets. When the Indian economy was opened up for American corporations in the early 1990s, there was an inherent trade disparity between India and the US. India demanded a major chunk of H1B visas (along with other things) to open up the world's largest market, and it continues to this day. If the US takes measurable steps to clamp down on the numbers, there would be a response from India unless the US makes a deal with India and extends compensatory concessions.

I would like you to know that it does not go unrecognized and because of it I have come to recognize the larger dynamic at play here which are the people that do the hiring. Yes! we cannot grab a pitchfork and attack our neighbor every time someone points a finger at them and says they are taking our jobs. It is high time we look at the finger pointers as the potential source of our unemployment woes. As it is vital that I hear every word that you say - because I cannot afford to miss one, I humbly ask that you raise the audio as I had some challenges hearing you in this particular video only. Greatest Gifts for the New year and Humble Blessings

I graduated in 2008 with a degree in cs. When I was looking for a tech job, the majority of the started jobs needed 3 or 4 years of experience and certificates.

The H1B visas have been used in this country for several years. They are used in agriculture and many highly skilled jobs. Corporations love to use the visas to maximize their profit margin. I agree that Americans need to research on how corporations abuse this policy. As you stated, it is not the individual that participates in the H 1 B visa program,it is the corporations that use the program to exclude the average Americans to enrich themselves. I agree, Americans need to hold corporations accountable for their hiring practices. Americans need to demand a better educational system. If individuals understood history they would know that America has always preferred free or cheap labor to run this country.

It’s wild how the mind works because when I listened to your video I immediately thought: wow, these companies are a trip, trying to take advantage of people. Not once did I think “these people are trying to take our jobs!” lol. Some people are so toxic and miserable 😂

I think DEI was scapegoated. I think people lost white collar jobs to visa holders and DEI was targeted as a reason but it was a minor reason. If they cut off all visas i'd be happy to advocate for DEI programs.

I just have one thing to say about this post because I haven’t seen the previous one, you are correct. I’ve had the opportunity to be invited to work and network abroad. I turned it down because I can do the same here, hire talent from other countries specifically tailored to my workflow instead of be going there. Why would I work for a company when I can hire my own people and do the same here and be independent and my own boss. The American professionals I have are fantastic and the same goes for my foreign professionals. Fix those loopholes and use it as it was intended for then keep it moving😊

I feel bad for the people who are here under those conditions. I can't be mad at them for trying to take care of themselves/family. They want our money but don't want to pay us due to simple greed. they dont want to invest in training their own workforce. complete outsource. but have also locked in a worker who's life is completely dependent on this employment.

I totally understood the point from the first video. I am seeing more companies lay off entire departments and clearly they intend to take on more h1b workers to cut payroll expenses and avert staffing issues which we do struggle with. Its scary and interesting at the same time.

Great video . I am an indian and i am myself on H1B visa working for the tech . I genuenely empathize with American citizens and their concerns should be adressed with utmost priority and sincearity . Its ethically wrong to introduce the policies that benefit foreign nationals or people in power at the expense of native / local population . Had the same type of policies been applied by indian government , i too would have protested . But my whole point is that these problems could be adressed even with out racially abusing us . I see the posts filled with hate towards indians ,in a ways which i couldnot even comprehend . I never thought Americans especially white people harboured this much poison in their hearts towrads us indians . Now let me tell you why indians come to USA .. In india we are programmed since childhood to learn MATH / SCIENCE/ ENGINEERING /MEDINE .. I can say that nearly than 40% of the young generation take up these courses .But the real problem is that the indian government is socialist and they don't facilitate the environenment to create that many jobs and india has population problem as well. .Most of the budget allocation goes to fund the welfare scehmes .An Average indian graduate feels that he is not getting enough due / opportunities / wages for the talent or knowlwdge he has , and this forces us to look jobs else where. In India , there is a narrative often floated that America is the land of opportunities and people over there welcome talent across the world .The Americans are projected as paragons of equality / liberty who are not like rest of the world . Even our school circulum has chapters on Abraham Lincoin. Its often portreyed that Americans are not xenophobic unlike Europeneans / Australians / Middle easterns and they just value your talent and hardwork and nothing else matters .We were shown the examples of Google CEO /Micrososft CEO / as people who succeeded because of so called American Values .. This makes us to look towards America .That's the reason why indians especially middle class apply for H1B visas .we dont have any hidden agenda or malice towards you people to take up your jobs . Finally i just want to say that if you hate indians , just the scrap the H1B all at once and deport all of us / or fix the issues like downscaling number of annual H1B applications /or increasing the minimum wage limit / penalizing or punishing the employers who abuse H1B etc ..These things can be done even with out racially abusing us and depriving us of dignity .

The US is renown for cheap labor. It started with slavery. Free labor. The fact that these companies claim they can't find qualified ppl right in the 🇺🇲 is not true. They just want to justify H1B1. These candidates need to be careful believing they are the chosen one because no one else qualifies.

You are exactly right, this is how big companies undercut experienced qualified employees. They bring it foreign workers legalize them with these H1-B Visas and hire them paying less money as long as they don't pay them below Federal minimum wages.

I am on h1b. Thank you for clarifying your position. I only see recist comments on h1b holders for last couple of weeks. I am earning more thank average of tech workers under h1b. But main point here is this visa is being issued by usa gov. Then why they are being racist on us.

I think its ok though to ask whether we still need the program. It was originally founded in 1950 to address a specific need at the time. It is now 2024, do we still lack the technological knowledge and competency to fill these jobs? I honestly do not have the answer to that question. More importantly, how would we go about answering the question? Do we have systems in place to monitor our government programs? It seems to me the only people who support these programs are the billionaires who are benefitting from them. This is a problem. Musk and Viveks arguments are not supported with sufficient facts. Lots of people are speaking out- its looking like the programs are being exploited. We need to find a way, in my opinion, to evaluate the extent of the abuse so we can reasonably decide whether to reform or eliminate the program.
