🎬 Dear Kevin Feige, in this FIlmSpeak video essay we discuss how Kevin Feige Killed the MCU and why the MCU is truly dead.
🔔 SUBSCRIBE: kzbin.info?sub_con...
In this MCU video essay, I'm discussing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the pitiful spiral of Marvel's empire. The MCU is dead. I go over the reasons why the MCU is failing and give some suggestions on how to fix it, even though it's safe to say that Marvel's best days are behind them.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the biggest and most popular franchises in the world, but it's failing because of a strict adherence to "The Plan," with little room for creativity and character. From overworked VFX artists, to a lack of director input in projects such as Nia DaCosta's The Marvels, an unwillingness to reboot the X-Men and prioritize the Fantastic Four, to the cameo mess that is the Multiverse, the MCU is in shambles and there's no one else to blame but Kevin Feige himself. lnstead of using the Multiverse to explore endless possibilities that are largely solo films, Kevin Feige and the Marvel brain trust have only used it in the cheapest and laziest way possible. A lot of people say that the mcu phase 4 sucks, the mcu phase 5 sucks, the mcu is a disaster, and it's easy to understand why...because it is. In this video, I discuss the reasons why the MCU is failing and how Marvel is an empire in ruins. From multiverses to Kang to secret wars, Phase 4 and Phase 5, and beyond, I cover everything you need to know about the current state of the MCU in this mcu video essay and analysis.

If we’re talking about what *nearly* killed the MCU after Endgame, it’s not mainly Kevin Feige but the Disney executives and their greed. Greed being an all-too-common reason for what start the downfall of so many great things we experience in life.

Film is art, and as soon as it becomes a product being marketed towards investors in conferences and presentations you've lost the point. Marvel films used to be cinema, but now they're a product sold to investors to increase the profits of Disney executives. There's no heart anymore. It's all about the money.

The irony of it all is that everything after Endgame feels like random stuff thrown against the wall with zero planning. The projects don't have a single coherent narrative thread between them and major developments that should impact the wider universe are completely forgotten from project to project.
@Sidera17
@Sidera17 5 ай бұрын
It would have been so amazing for Phase 4 to have individual stories again like a Phase 1 (Shang Chi was sort of this way minus the end credits). Introduce some new characters, but the common thread is the aftermath of the Blip and how it has changed the world. These would have self-contained and the audience reception could have determined who to continue to follow. The older Marvel characters with completed character arcs could have shown up as cameos or as mentor figures, depending on the movie, or for an Avengers-level threat. This would have kept the audience on their toes and appreciated when an Infinity character returned. The remaining major Infinity Arc characters with more to contribute (like Wanda or Dr. Strange) could have been key players in Avengers-level threats, We didn't need to immediately go into the multiverse as a result of what the Avengers did. We needed to explore the consequences of the Blip. The heroes and villains forged in thew new world after the Blip occurred due to the circumstances of the Blip. Extending out from there, you could explore the X-Men or Inhumans-type vibe (maybe the Blip did it with cosmic energy), or the rise of a villain with motivations who ultimately does something to unlock multiversal power, becoming the next Thanos-level threat. Also, they needed a new Big Three to establish to follow as the anchors amidst the other heroes. I didn't care for seeing every character pass a torch or grow old and bitter or be somehow connected to a previous one.

Kang can’t be recast, unless he’s convicted. He’s got a character clause in his contract. Something Evans sparked when he was recast in Captain America. So the only chance they’ve got of recasting is hinged upon the Good Samaritan clause that would void the contract if he’s convicted of a crime.

In my perfect world, Captain Marvel 2 would be one of the first entries to Phase 4. It would try to fix her character and the movie would start with her being as overpowered and cold as people thought she was the first time around (maybe piercing through a spaceship to save people from another planet, but scaring them off in the process), then she would return to Earth for whatever reason, learning that the snaps created mutants as a side effect and she would have to face Rogue who, mislead by Mystique, would take Carol's powers away and then have a redemption arc along the story. And that's it. Maybe Monica would receive her powers through Rogue while trying to save Carol, then Carol would have to trust Monica and rebuild their relationship till her powers were back by the end of the movie. Then they'd have infinite ways to introduce the X-Men. Maybe Magneto could have a modernized adaptation of his origin with Hydra instead of Nazis while Professor X could be focused on gathering mutants in the five years jump.

Yeah, that might be a controversial opinion but I agree. It's a tragedy that Chadwick Boseman died. But would be have really wanted the character to die with him? With a project this large, I don't know that it would be smart to kill off every character whose actor died. In the comics, these characters are always larger than life and they're written and drawn by a wide variety of people. Comics don't usually stop because someone involved dies. It's really hard to blame one individual for the failure of a franchise. Movies are created by the team, and, therefore, the fault lies within the creative team. So far, the MCU lacks a leading man/woman who fills Iron Man and Captain American roles. As a result, every subsequent sequel feels as pointless as the last one. With no roles assigned to these protagonists, it feels like they don't serve a purpose to the universe and will just be forgotten about until the next Avengers movie (probably). The question then becomes, why should we watch these movies if they are just disposable products? While some might say for their entertainment factor, Marvel hasn't produced an entertaining movie in quite a bit. Sure, they might make a good movie every once in and while, but they're inconsistency in doing so has made the audience distrust them. So, in conclusion, Marvel needs to decide who their main characters are and stop with the smorgasbord approach so they can get back on track. EDIT: Nowhere did I say that Feige doesn't deserve to shoulder some of the blame. Read before you comment.
@narcisosanz8137
@narcisosanz8137 4 ай бұрын
I don't know. Kevin received all the praise for the first three parts of the MCU as the "brilliant mind" behind it. Now that Marvel movies became nothing but everything wrong with phases one, two and three, I think it's fitting to put the blame on him as well. He got more and more control over the years. People tend to forgot, but I remember how Joss Whedon was bummed out after Age of Ultron BECAUSE of studio interference, Feige's interference. Same for Patty Jenkins leaving The Dark World so Marvel could release that shit. The problem is, as said in the video, how everything feels so over produced now. Phase One, the Guardians movies and Winter Soldier (and Infinity War) were good because there were filmmakers doing their job. They have a heart. The more interference a movie gets, the more it will feel disjointed, silly, etc. And that's what's happening right now. They won't let the crew do their job, they'll fix it in post. Then the screenwriters will have to keep rewriting shit even after filming is done, directors will butch the movie to add any stupid scene the producers feel like adding, FX team will overwork because Marvel can't decide if Hella will face Thor in an alley, a cliff or Asgard and everything will look like an unfinished mess because of it. Marvel looks more and more cheap looking over the years when budget is getting bigger everytime. Even Sam Raimi, who's a great director, released a shitty movie under the MCU, way worse than Spider-Man 3 and even worse looking. What I mean is, they should go back to basics, creating an outline of where the universe is going and allowing creatives to create so they get to find new protagonists to this universe and the next saga. For the most part, Marvel Comics never needed Iron Man and Captain to keep going and I think the MCU can do the same.

They're all the problem tbh, The execs think marvel is just a cookie machine that will sell regardless of how shit the cookies are and how many of them you make. Feige is the problem because the creative direction has been less than poor. Every major movie outside of No Way Home (Sony) and Guardians 3 (Gunn) has just been a creative disaster. The shows are even worse, it's so obvious they just want cheap copycat more diverse replacements for the original avenger heroes. Iron man gets a black female replacement, captain america gets a black replacement, hawkeye gets a female replacement. Even captain marvel has already been replaced by a pakistani replacement. It's just getting ridiculous and not cause of the race but because they aren't giving these people their own identity. Why make a new Iron man if you could make an original character? Like I get that the OG cast was probably done with the characters and wanted out, but don't just replace them with the exact same characters but a different look. Sam was a character in his own right but the Falcon was completely discarded to make him the new Captain America. The same goes for Shuri and then I haven't even talked about the absolute massacre of characters like Docter Strange, Wanda and Thor (who also had a short female replacement). There's just no creative drive anymore to make any interesting new characters just the same but with different looks.

Listen, I have my own problems with the modern MCU. But, a lot of these videos I see not just from this channel but also from a lot of others is that they just repeat the same thing. While some of that is true like the movies and shows just aren't as good as they used to be. A lot of them come out as contradictory or just not true. A lot of people like to say, "The MCU feels disconnected" but also say, "Everything feels like it's just building up to a grand plan". "The MCU should diversify itself and focus more on solo projects", "Where are we going? There's no clear thread like Thanos or the Infinity Stones.", "You're relying on the Multiverse too much", "It's supposed to be the Multiverse Saga, but the Multiverse is barely in any projects", etc. If I was Marvel, I would be confused because of all the mixed signals everyone is throwing at me. I would also be confused because some of the problems people are saying, just aren't true. The MCU does have solo projects that are self-contained like Thor 4, Shang Chi, and GOTG 3. It also has projects that are connected to the wider plot like NWH, Loki and Dr. Strange 2. So I'm not really sure what people are talking about when they try to say one side doesn't exist.
@DavidMartinez-ce3lp
@DavidMartinez-ce3lp 3 ай бұрын
Both the side stories and interconnected stories have the same problems. Mistreatment of the characters and the universe. Doesn't really matter if it looks like they have a plan. It's not working. Thor 4 was a failure that continued the trend of making Thor into a complete idiot. No Way Home was actively changed because they were so desperate to have the power of nostalgia from the other Spidermen. This actively hurt the story of Dr. Strange 2 which was supposed to be much more connected to the events of No Way Home. Reduced Dr. Strange to a secondary character in his own film. Loki was meh at best. The events of Loki seem to only sort of matter in Ant Man 3, and that was another failure. And Kang was defeated yet again. The reason it's not so simple is because there are so many damn problems with everything the MCU is putting out. None of it is working. People aren't showing up, but they are full steam ahead. Not changing a damn thing. Just putting more content out.

@mutalemwananshiku4098 Thor is an absolute fool in Thor 4, and his "purpose" doesn't fit with his character. Not a natural progression of the character. Makes no sense. It bombed. Dr. Strange was sidelined in order to prop up Scarlett Witch. No big journey for strange, just a side mission and then he didn't even defeat the villain. She just defeated herself. This movie was such a waste of potential in every sense. It too failed to make enough money. Another failure. Just a freaking mess.

I happen to agree with much of what’s been said here. The blame does need to be appropriately spread out but ultimately Feige needed to step up and say “this isn’t right and this won’t work” but he didn’t. He put his stamp of approval on projects and he now needs to answer for it. With regard to some of the details being mentioned, I know it’s not confirmed but there are two rumors out there that seem to have a good shot at being true: 1, there’s some sort of contract they haven’t been able to get around with regard to the original Mutant characters & actors who portrayed them that has Marvel handcuffed until 2025 2, Majors may have a deal that says he and only he gets to play any and all Kang variants through a certain time. Basically they’ll have to cut ties if they want to move on with a variant and if he gets out of this mess they will have walked away from one of the better actors in Hollywood(he’s perfect for this role, similar to RDJ as Tony Stark or Cumberbach as S Strange)

About why Jonathan Majors isn't recast. According to the Weekly Planets segment " Hot scoop or a shot of poop" Majors can't be recast. Because of the nature of multiverse, Majors was afraid to be recast so he put in his contract that ONLY he could play Kang in live action.

I partially agree with you but Kevin Feige isn't necessarily the problem. 600 new shows and movies and... CONTENT... were greenlit because 80% of his power over the damn franchise was taken away by Bob Chapek. Nothing he could do. Feige only announced Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars because it would've been leaked online the day before. Nothing he could do. Taika Waititi almost had full creative control of Love and Respect and look where that went. Nothing Feige could do. Marvel needs to make good movies... but I don't think letting everyone just play around without no plan is the solution. Marvel needs Kevin... We all do...

Something that has contributed to burnout with the MCU for a lot of people I know is the unrelenting pace at which content is coming out. There's so many shows and movies people can't keep up. Disney execs may think we all have the money and time for that and I understand that Disney's sole motive is to make a profit, but they would honestly make more profit with a few quality products rather than a deluge of mostly okay-ish ones.

Interesting. I really like and appreciate this video. The inflexibility of 'The Plan' compared to what it was before, the argument for recasting Kang instead of panic switching to Doom, (reminiscent of Neve Campbell as a reaction to Barrera's and Ortega's departure from Scream 7) rather than serving the character and story, all brilliantly argued and well thought out. I would make 2 observations. 1. Victoria Alonso, purely from a business standpoint, (morally and personally may be different) needed to go. And that firing had little to nothing to do with VFX issues. They happened long before she went, and continue long after. It had to do with repping another studio at an Awards event and the perception of that. 2. Curious how in this entire video there is no mention of Bob Chapek and the consistent allusion to Kevin Feige having overall control-when it's well documented that they are mutually exclusive. The overruse of Disney+ as a Marvel jockey for a vast array of content that isn't great, and dilutes the brand? Chapek was the one who had control over that, and switched priority to it, made decisions to dump Pixar and Black Widow on Streaming, worsening relations between talent and Pixar. The installing of financiers in place of creatives-in a move that won't be fully wrung of consequences until his demanded slate finishes in 2025-leading to a loss of oversight and creative and quality control. Chapek. Don't get me wrong, as said above, I think you make some excellent points and arguments, and I agree with a lot of them. And I am not proposing all blame gets laid at 1 man's feet, but there is an undeniable correlation between the couple of decisions above, and the quality decline of Marvel. Your heading is also blatant clickbait, as, thankfully, you don't actually argue the title-I feared it would be the Star Wars/DC fan trajectory of we loved Rian, until we hated the Last Jedi, now he's the worst thing to ever happen to the brand (have you not seen RoS?) and should never touch it again. It's not dead. It's at a crossroads, but hopefully, with creative control returned, in 2025, with the benefit of a break, we can get back to what we loved for a decade.

The MCU has to end. This is Disney’s fault because since they have no creativity with their animation side of things, they leaned too hard on the mcu therefore milking it and putting Feige in a tough position. But to me, the MCU has to end. Bring all the characters back (avengers, X-men, everyone) in a couple of years so it doesn’t get old and make people hype about them making more movies.

It's also too much content too quickly, forcing people to watch Disney+ shows to keep up with the movies and overall storyline. I blame Disney and their greed more so than Kevin. This whole mess would've been avoided if the Disney+ shows were not directly connected to the main MCU story and after Endgame, the MCU took a break for a year or two then started individual movies again with the X-Men or Fantastic Four, slowly incorporating back characters from the Infinity Saga after they built up these new characters and introduced Kang or Doom. It would've felt like a much more natural progression. The movies now are stepping stones, there's no individual identity or soul in any of them, even when you bring in a wacky, cool, unique director like Sam Raimi.

The X-men and Spider-man were more popular than the Avengers especially during the 90's and together with the first Blade movie paved the way for Superhero movies. Its kinda disrespectful when they're just gonna multiverse the X-men into existence especially when the X-men were one of the pioneers of superhero movies 'cause remember unlike the Avengers they didn't need to make individual films to establish the group. Thats how popular they were back then, that even as a group you can still know who's who.

The MCU should never have tried to outdo Endgame and the Infinity Saga straight after it ended. The Eternals should have been where the Eternals realised humans are worthwhile and the Avengers triumphing over Thanos proved it. Then there should have been some kind of Intergalactic Council that decided Earth deserved protection and the Celestials left Earth alone instead of laying an egg in it. This should have closed off all the cosmic storylines for Phase 4 and 5. Then the MCU could have given audiences a rest and become more grounded again instead of the tedious and expensive CG crapfests they've been for too long.

It goes like this: "The measure of a good leader is not by how well the plan goes, but by how well they are able to adapt when the plan inevitably goes wrong." Course correction is a vital skill for massive projects like the MCU, and Kevin Feige announcing films and shows so far in advance is like the exact opposite of that.

I think that it needs to be considered HOW QUICKLY we react versus how much time it takes to create a quality movie and or show. It isn't dead. I think they can turn it around at the drop of a single movie and some excellent choices after that and there is no other product on EARTH that can say that or do that right now. Call me a contrarian. I hear a LOT of talk about why people don't like The Marvels. What I don't hear a lot about is people like me: Zero complaints about The Marvels because I walked away after Thor 4. Hell for all I know I'd love The Marvels. But after The Eternals, Black Widow, Dr. Strange 2, and Thor 4, I was done. Happy to take my Iron Man 1 to Endgame ball and walk away. I didn't skip The Marvels because of The Marvels. I skipped The Marvels because of what came before The Marvels. With respect, you’re putting the wrongful blame on Kevin Feige. Yes, he’s head of Marvel Studios, but it was Bob Chapek and Bob Iger who spread Feige too thin with all the Disney Plus Marvel shows and mandated that he have them. Feige doesn’t have time to oversee everything that comes out in the MCU. The MCU is in better shape than the DCEU. I disagree that Doom should be in the Fantastic Four. Introduce him right, not just in the first Fantastic Four film like every other Fantastic Four film where he is defeated from the start. Thanos wasn't defeated directly in the Avengers. Fans are upset Kang has been defeated so often Kevin Fraud doesn’t own The Success of The Infinity Saga, Ike Perlmutter, Jon Favreau, James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and The Russo Brothers on the success of The Infinity Saga. Disney killed the MCU after Stan Lee died. I’m sure this video is insightful and probably raises some good points but man… you’re leaning really heavily toward clickbait with that title and thumbnail. I thought Chepak killed the MCU? Let 'em die man...m-she-u is done. Do not recast yet. Learn from pirates. The upcoming MCU projects are What If Season 2, echo, Deadpool, Armour Wars, blade, Captain America Brave New World, Spiderman Freshman Year, X-Men 1997, and Thunderbolts. That's plenty of projects that don't need Kang even mentioned to wait until after this trial. Slow down productions and push the Kang dynasty back as needed. I'm fine with "a plan" when it means planning ahead, because if you need to coordinate so many characters and plot threads you can't do _Lost_ series formulate, which was: Just keep adding more characters and "mysteries" and hope at some point it will all magically fall in place (it won't), instead of bits of Lore contradicting each other. But the problem of having A PLAN in capital letters that everything must bow to is... look, if you've ever played a tabletop roleplaying game, where the gamemaster is supposed to problem the worldbuilding framework and a character-driven story that changes according to what the players do in it with their characters. But you know what happens if you have a bad gamemaster who wrote what is basically a novel and expects the player characters to become mere puppets in the gamemaster's grand design who should play out the scene the way the GM envisioned them beforehand. And every deviation from the path is blocked or punished. Look, plot-driven stories can work just fine and be interesting: Just look at the James Bond movies, where James Bond is basically a cypher who does not need character development... he's there to solve the problem posed by the villain. Same goes for any Disaster genre movie, where things happen to random protagonists. Or most Murder Mystery plots, where the detective may have persnal quirks but the character arrives fully formed with the goal to solve the mystery. But the MCU has always been character-driven, an ensemble piece, a tapestry and mosaic of individual stories, heroes and villains, coming together. The Loki series remembered this.

Interesting. In addition, there's also another negative side effect to having a "plan". More specifically, a misplaced plan as I would refer it. As part of the way the show, How I Met Your Mother ended, was due to the creators having had planned ahead as to how they wanted to end the last few minutes of the show. It may have been part of the plan but it regressed 3 of the main characters & did one major character dirty. I also agree in that part of what made the first 3 phases of the MCU was through a character driven choice of storytelling.

Ask them to make whatever films and shows, ask for updates every so often to see how they’re getting on, give them the monetary wealth they need but lightly enforce a limit on the time and money they have, not a deadline or low amount but just something to not give them unchecked power. Because sometimes creatives get too in depth with their stuff when it’s not needed, I know.

The only projects that have been truly dedicated to the Multiverse saga was Multiverse of Madness, WandaVision, Loki, Quantimania, and maybe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Everything else has either been epilogue/concluding stories for the old heroes like GOTG 3 and Thor 4 or entirely independent stories for the new heroes that have zero to do with the saga like She Hulk, Moon Night, and Shang Chi. And theres no way those projects didnt get released with Kevin's approval, which means even he's taking half-measures towards the saga.

Good points. But I also argue that Kevin has done nothing with most of the films and shows to forward any of his plan and no one is connected enough to add to the plan effectively which has led to major failures throughout the phases after Endgame. One issue is despite knowing that we're supposed to go towards Kang and Secret Wars via the multiverse is that the multiverse has been subverted as an expectation in Far From Home, and resolved across several different properties as a threat. How are we supposed to take Kang seriously when Ant-Man has already defeated a variant of him that was exiled, and every other hero has already fixed their own multiverse problems on their solo adventures? No one has really suffered any meaningful loss or anything besides Loki. Loki has been the only one to sacrifice anything to the cause which, after everything, feels like things are somehow only just beginning. That's another problem: nothing has forwarded anything towards a bigger picture. Nearly everything is self contained to a fault. Wanda's character in Dr. Strange 2 was a betrayal to who she ended WandaVision as, resulting in her death of character as well as her literal death, which would be monumentally stupid to undo at this point because anything, even a variant would pretty much just hand wave her existence like Vision 2.0! I wonder if he'll ever show up in anything ever again and if he'll just end up like his wife: turned villain in this ill constructed plot that defeats and betrays his entire purpose and character. I mean, yeah, there is something to be said about them trying to fit things to the plan they've laid out, and they definitely should have kept everything under wraps until things were ready. However, I find it incredibly difficult to say than any plan has been acted on until Loki really. Everything else just feels like filler in a multiverse that should be expanding, but isn’t. We do definitely need more solo stories to focus on their own stakes and problems, but we also need the cratives to effectively communicate to each other whatever plans they do have so that the actions and characters are consistent within the world of the MCU, so that things can actually push forward, puzzle pieces fit together and then we can all get hyped for the next event. I know there are good points in this video, but I think whatever plan they did have fell apart years ago, so much so that I don't really see how it can be said that they're trying to stick to something. I don't see a plan. I see a release schedule, and then I see a discombobulated mess next to that schedule. All I know is that communication and collaboration is not a thing happening with whatever powers that are responsible, and they definitely need to fix that.

The insightful critique of the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) underscores a fundamental shift needed in its approach to filmmaking. To elevate the quality of cinema within the MCU, a more thoughtful and deliberate process is essential, starting with the script and extending to the VFX. A hiatus, followed by a focus on characters like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, could provide a much-needed reset. The MCU's storytelling has become predictably formulaic, and this needs addressing. Each character should be unique, embodying their distinct qualities from the comics. The over-reliance on humor, especially in serious scenes, detracts from the narrative's depth and emotional impact. Comedy has its place, but it should not undermine the gravity of pivotal moments. Stories must have real stakes to engage the audience genuinely, something that has been noticeably absent in recent MCU offerings. The treatment of the multiverse concept is another area requiring reevaluation. Rather than being a mere gimmick, it should be explored with the seriousness and creativity it deserves, opening avenues for fresh, compelling narratives. Directorial freedom is crucial for the artistic integrity of each film. Directors should be empowered to imprint their unique vision on their projects, moving away from the current 'cookie-cutter' and 'assembly line' approach. This change would allow each movie to retain its identity, making the MCU a tapestry of diverse, yet interconnected stories. The tendency of the MCU to make every character quippy, akin to Tony Stark, has led to a homogenization of character voices, making them feel less distinct. This approach, while initially refreshing, has become stale over time. Each character needs to be true to their essence, contributing to a richer, more varied cinematic universe. Furthermore, the current strategy of using each MCU movie primarily as a setup for future installments has diluted the impact of individual films. Audiences are left feeling like they are watching extended trailers rather than complete, self-contained stories. This approach not only undermines the narrative strength of each film but also diminishes audience interest and investment. In conclusion, the MCU faces several challenges, but they are not insurmountable. By focusing on character-driven storytelling, allowing for creative freedom, and treating each film as a unique piece of cinema rather than just a cog in a larger machine, the MCU can regain its former glory and continue to captivate audiences worldwide.

Ironically, given what this video is about, my disinterest in the current MCU is the _lack_ of a plan in these movies and shows. To me, Marvel Studios doesn't seem to have a clear idea of what the big plan actually is. They're just throwing ideas at the wall and introducing new characters so that they can all come together for ... something later on. The Infinity saga was really interesting because everything connected so well and it all came together when Thanos and the Infinity Stones had to be dealt with. Endgame isn't even one of my favourite movies (it pales in comparison to Infinity War), but it was without a doubt a grand finale to the series. Right now, we have Kang (or multiple Kangs?) and vague multiverse stuff to wonder about, with the possibility of that not even happening (due to real life circumstances) and having, uh ... Doctor Doom appear? _Maybe?_ Along with a bunch of new young Avengers in the C-Lister range of relevancy? Not entirely sure what's happening at the moment. Perhaps it's my own fault for not being interested enough to keep up with everything going on in the MCU--skipping shows like She Hulk--to know what exactly the plan is. Movies such as Ant-Man and Dr. Strange originally worked because the MCU was on a pedestal back then. There was real hype during that time and people were interested in this universe. Super Hero fatigue wasn't fully setting in yet. These days, those movies don't really do much for viewers without all of the hype for a bigger and grander event. Without heavy hitters like Iron Man, Captain America, etc, these "smaller" movies simply don't interest people as much. And this is coming from someone who _likes_ the characters and live action portrayals of Ant-Man and Dr. Strange.
