How King of the Oathbreakers and Horobi, Death's Wail Interact

Several spells target any number of creatures. Heaven's Gate , Touch of Darkness , Eerie Interlude. Instant cantrips that target also have a bunch of extra utility. They all change to both protection of sorts and also grow your board state. Embolden is finally a good card 20 years later.

I've run a Horobi deck for a while now and keeping him protected has always been the trickiest part. Wicked idea!

Tiny note, they don't actually phase in during your upkeep, they actually phase in during your untap phase, before you untap, so they get to untap if they were tapped prior

@@irishluck7890 phasing in specifically happens before the untap step per its own rules description(just look at teferi's protection as an example card that includes the rules text)

​@@travissutherlund6015 Correct! It's phase in at the beginning of the turn, untap step in which they'll untap as normal, then draw into 1st main phase. They get to untap for the same reason you explained.

I know this video is a year old, but with Nadu finally being banned I'm looking at this going "orzhov Nadu?" and wondering if there's any spice there. I'm looking at cards like cranial plating as instant speed equipment that turns normally a combat trick card into a constant source of instant speed protection. Its got this Krenko vibe to it where if you can get all your triggers off you're doubling all your spirits every turn, and that can get really scary really fast. Very slept on card.

With King of the Oathbreakers and Horobi on the battlefield, could you use a Heaven's Gate and target all opponents AND the King AND Horobi, and then stack the triggers so King goes first, phasing himself and Horobi, and then Horobi's trigger will activate, killing everything else that remains? Or would Horobi's triggered ability 'fizzle' as he has phased out? Or does phasing out not stop triggered abilities (like if you destroy a permanent while it's trigger ability is still on the stack) Or would this work totally fine :D? You just board-wiped everyone, and both your guys escaped scott-free + tokens on your upkeep.

cool combo! I can see this being a jank combo with something like that goblin who likes to share targeted spells and Ivy. So you can blank your whole board every turn. Then use the one ring and enchantments to make urself immune to damage and untargetable. Throw in some 5 colored sliver cascade and a maskwood nexus... there ya go all slivers are spirits.

They phase back in on their controller's untap step. I said 'upkeep' at one point in the video, and I'm afraid that's inaccurate. Sorry for any confusion there.
