Another aspect unique to french rugby that made them good is the timing they had in the early 2010s: back then every french club tried to replicate Toulon's winning formula of recruiting international stars, which meant an entire generation of French youth players were being snubbed by the biggest top 14 clubs, which La Rochelle then recruited for a bargain price
