Met Larry at Burleigh heads in 1980 absolutely ripping, he always had a big smile on his face and was super friendly to all.

I’m almost 60.. I got into surfing through skating and friends.. I believe I was fortunate that models like Larry Bertleman Buttons Mark Liddell were the models for the Hot Dogtowm skaters.. older surfer like Lopez Reno later Dane Kealoha and the Aikaus.. Hawaiians had awesome surf role models... And life would reveal that role models are very human with human weaknesses... it can be awkward at times, because of those weak traits to shine as a Hawaiian, but enjoying the life in front of us, daily, and routine as it can be..Enjoying life and the people around us...that is a defining Hawaiian trait. And walking in the “Anything is Possible” mindset/mantra is easier when you enjoy life as you do it..thank you for the clip and your narrative..

More please.........I've grown-up on the west coast Ocean Beach S.D. Ca. Been to Hawaii many times. South and North shores. Like both equally. I was competing at a young age to support my family. No dad. I always felt like I was born in the wrong generation. Growing up riding twins at Sunset Cliffs, Newbreak, 33's the point. I get it brother, sometimes it's frustrating, lonely. But chasing the stoke is most important. Mahallo
