I'm a 31 year old man and I have a kid also and am currently broke. I don't think a lot of people realize how ashamed one can feel when you feel you can barely provide for your kid yourself. I applaud you for seeing the way out though and committing to bettering your future. I've started learning python though and I already feel better. I like hearing stories like this. My wife's divorcing me and my life is kind of falling apart, but I feel if I just spend literally all my time coding I can't help but 2x my income in 2 years. I just wasted lots of my 20s but now that I have a kid I've been spending lots of time outside work taking college classes to get an accounting degree, but it is going to take me forever and I likely won't make that much. Coding has the added benefit of being able to make money on your own, if you are good enough at it.

Hey Justin, I appreciate you watching my video and sharing some of your story with me. I was in a very similar situation to you. I won't say "I know how you feel", but it was probably damn close. I wasted my 20's, mismanaged my money, and didn't really take life seriously until my kid came along. I had similar relationship problems , and I know the shame all too well of not feeling like you can provide... That being said, I commend you for working hard to give your kid a better life. It's not easy, in fact it's damn hard, but the feeling of accomplishment you'll have when you finally land that first job will make all the effort worth it. You're going through a rough time, but take all that pain and frustration and use it to make you better. Thanks again, and feel free to reach out anytime if you need some motivation or any advice. I'll do my best to help. My email is in my youtube bio. - Josh

Hey buddy! Well.. I watched the video till the end, because it was so authentic. A breath of fresh air in terms of the content. Loved it! Now, you said that you got nothing out of your time in military in terms of skills, but I believe this is not entirely so. I think, one of the reasons you have made it - you didn’t give up and grinded every day. Who else could sleep 5 hours for 9 months? Working two shifts and having to look after ( at least a bit ) after your child.. why didn’t you give up like 95-99% of, let’s say, softer characters? :) Keep it up, subscribed

I appreciate you subscribing and watching the video! And great point there, I should’ve specified I didn’t have any career specific skills I could throw on my resume. But you’re right, I definitely learned a lot in terms of discipline, work ethic etc. Glad to have you as a subscriber!

you make me remember in peru I used to work 12 to 13 hours on average when I worked in a warehouse then I worked out near my house and finally I studied programming and English to find opportunities.

Congrats man ! I'd like to think that they liked your confidence coupled with your skills to be honest. I'm guessing maybe your time in the military was the cause of that or that just how you are. Personally I've been learning full stack development for like 3 years now (in college still) and I've gotten interviews but I never landed an internship yet. I have good projects in my opinion but I suck at explaining them, talk too fast, and I think I come across as socially anxious. I know the only way to get better is to practice though but still its good to see someone succeeding!

I appreciate the kind words! And it sounds like you have all the skills, just gotta improve your interviewing a bit (which is a skill in and of itself. Haha). Watching a few videos on interview prep, and preparing answers for some of the most common questions ahead of time can help reduce some of that anxiety. I hope to hear from you soon that you landed a job! You got this. 💯
