Lebron has the highest basketball IQ. He only shifts into high gear when he has to, otherwise, he takes a rest (while on the court). His longevity is due to the fact that he's very selective about when he uses his power. He understands that shooting the 3 and dropping dimes takes less physical energy, so he's learned to master the parts of his game that takes less energy to execute. His mental game is now just as high as his physical. That's the master level.

The only thing he’s never changed is his ball dominance. He’s the reason I even love basketball, but LeBron is still an awkward fit with guys who can’t play off the ball (Lonzo, Rondo, D Rose stand out in recent years). He has been able to have mostly complementary talent around him, or rotate on/off the court with more awkward fits (Rondo), so it doesn’t matter much. But imagine in today’s smaller league, how unstoppable LeBron would be if he played the post and allowed a Rondo-type to orchestrate the offense. That’s probably his next evolution though.

I think I've boiled down LeBrons current game to this: the player with the highest awareness on the court. Aware about teammates, opponents, positions, transitions, the clock, timeouts, opposing teams bench and then finally every single thing about himself --- use of energy, shot selection, getting in position for easy plays, planning hard plays, pacing himself according to the game, planning plays ahead, planning to beat hard defenses. Isaiah Thomas said something truly noteworthy of him: he's not playing against the opposing team any more, he's taken his mental level so high that he's just playing against the game and everything in it. This is on court LeBron. When he retires, I can't wait to see what he'll be doing off court as a father, mentor, coach, parent, philanthropist, investor.
