DrB after my semester test 2, our prof was COOKING there by topology.. there was a closed set I have never seen... I had to think, instead of the traditional way of proving it's complement is open, I realized I had to use Sequential Characterisation of Closed Sets...did I not get chest pains on my way back to res🤣. Math is Challenging at varsity and knowing all the theorems and practicing all past past papers is not enough in some Challenging modules like Analysis, Topology, Algebra, etc. U may think u know but exam seters always have tricks up their sleeves .. My advice(to myself) is, even when u know every Definition, theorem(& their negations quite NB) and knowing how to place all the required quantifiers correctly as wanted by each question, expect a challenge and use all the tools learned in class to try prove/do questions u see for the first time(there was 4 new questions I have never seen their structure in my case, I was able to prove/do the other 2 but the other 1 and the one mentioned above chowed me). There is no one way of solving a problem, there's more than 1. As a student u need to know all of them. If it's a question u cannot do via the traditional way, just know something is beating the water. there is a trick there and U just have to have the ability to spot it so that u make reasonable changes to the given problem and make it look like the question u are used to or the examiner just wants u to use different tools( Like in the example I gave above) to solve the question. One way of passing is making sure u know how to do every technical question(from tut and class), know every definition and proving each theorem in ur module, Know all the ways of proving( ur direct, contrapositive, contradiction & etc..) then we can say u'll get a 55% to 60% in the test/exam. The other 40% to 45% will come with how well do u understand the course. This is according to my experience in the context of mathematics at varsity level. And my Last advice to my fellow mathematicians here at Dokotela Ben assuming we all doing undergrad math or have done it, ey guys know how to NEGATE. 😁😆 Thanks Dr Ben, I am learning a lot here, getting advices & get to reflect on how I think compared to other maths students. U always post a vid about what exactly is going through students at the current moment. I hope we get another one on more insides of how to really do well in our exams now that we're almost done attending classes, just b4 we begin with our June Exams. The Exam timetable is also quite stacked up, I find it hard to prepare for more than 2 modules at the same time and u find in some cases u writing 3 time in a space of 1 week. advices will be appreciated🙏🙏

Next time ask that sgudent why he's in class. "How does this apply to the real world" is a high school question. But, if you have the agency of an adult, why are you in this class if you don't believe that it has real world significance?
