I'd grab these up now so bad. The Pirate ship is so unique and I love the goofiness of the castle. Looking back on it, the theme was awesome. After all, many of the best IP based themes were unsuccessful at first: The Lone Ranger, Prince of Persia, Speed Racers, Spongebob and TMNT.

To be honest I know Lego purist are going to disagree with me but I miss when Lego made specialized minifigure pieces when I came to making sets based off animated movies like Toy Story 3 and Angry Birds movie as I feel like they did a great job capturing the art style of the movie in brick form which is something I feel like Lego has lacked lately (with the exception of mini dolls I guess) because if the Lego Flinstones, Snow White, Up and Despicable Me sets has shown us anything is that exaggerated cartoon designs don’t translate well to regular minifigures.

I feel like it varies on the character. TMNT and Toy Story worked because they still kept within the Lego mini figures but only had molded heads and maybe an accessory or two. It also might not be worth making one special mold that will only be used on one character in one or two sets ever

I love angry birds and I love lego. I owned some of the sets including the big king pig castle. I really liked them at the time. When I look back on it, angry birds has unfortunately only gone downhill since the movie: Deleting there best games from the app store and making garbage knock-off games. It's sad to see a company that brought me so much joy as a kid goes down this path.

And their quality has come down over the past years. Sure, the tolerance is overall mostly still really good, but their quality assurance is ass in some places and messed up bricks aren't that uncommon anymore. Even worse, the colours just oh so rarely match anymore. Almost every time you have colour mismatch of what's supposed to be the same colour. Also have you seen some of LEGOs recent sets? Alot of the sets SUCK in terms of built quality, they are straight trash, with large empty holes in Technic cars, or unstable as heck construction.. Lastly, do you know how much license fees cost? No, you don't. Why you think LEGO has been increasing their licenced products line vastly over the last bunch of years? Because it's profit to them, because the licence is an excuse to further increase the price to even higher numbers. Yes license fees cost, but LEGO ups their price not just by the license fee, they up it even higher. I wouldn't order on AliExpress, definitely not no, but these day there are some great alternative brands out there, some of them just straight up producing higher quality bricks AND set built quality. Please get out of that delusional bubble. I am not saying you should stop buying LEGO, but start accepting that LEGO needs some rivalry and that there is already amazing alternatives on the market.

I've noticed some similarities between lego Angry Birds figures and old Rock Monsters from Power Miners (Hands for example. "Birdish" ones are smooth in comparison with "rocky" ones but still you can see that they have the same shape). Personally I'm a Power Miners fan so I was happy to see that similarity. And i love these figures tbh. They are cool!

Pretty funny if you ask me. I was just disappointed that the only real theft was IP and design. Would have been an even better story if someone from Edukie broke into Lego HQ and grabbed a few bags of petty cash out of the safe and maybe roughed up an exec coming into work on his way out. There really isn't a mystery as to why Edukie would re-use the tooling from Lego. If the tooling bank already exists from another manufacturer, why bother spending tens of thousands designing all new tooling? It was also the case with Hasbro after acquiring the Marvel license. During this transitory period between companies, Hasbro's Marvel Legends infamously recycled a lot of existing parts from Toy Biz.

At first I thought the same, it makes sense why you re use tooling but NO they didn’t re use the tooling they re made it, side by side Edukie’s Red has a slightly different shape, arms are completely new, injection marks are different. Which makes even less sense, to me it’s evident they just wanted to piggyback off the designs, and because they spent so much on new molds I they went bankrupt, but again it’s just speculation, former employees never confirmed this.

May I recommend Doctor Who as a video topic, another tale of a construction line with so much potential that from whoever took it up, but ended with that potential untapped from Lego. (Wonder if it’s because Doctor who was tied in with dimensions and after the next dw dimensions set got cancelled they had no interest in continuing with the brand 🤔) Shame that Lego got the rights because wave 5 of character building was designed, ready to go, and prototypes exist somewhere but had to be pulled.

@@MyBrickOpinions unfortunately not, the guy who runs the merch site just knows they exist somewhere, as it was cancelled quite close to production, but no one knows what they were. They could surface one day like other CO prototypes, but the most likely way they’re going to surface is in the new character options doctor who book coming out this November/december, “Go Figure” as it has prototypes for the 5 inch action figures and the 2” time squad action figures, so it’s possible that the people behind it asked character for pictures. The character building section of the book is only available in the £200 version of the kickstarter so I wouldn’t buy it just for the chance that it contains prototypes. I on the other hand am a nerd and got the £200 tier just for the time squad supplement, so I’ll let you know if it contains the prototypes.

That’s the thing bud, in your example you’re hiring a company to design a product for your business, that’s called “a work for hire contact.” In this case, Lego acquired a license to produce products they themselves paid for the design, engineering, the tooling, the manufacturing, the distribution, and payed Sony and Rovio Royalties for every set they sold using the angry birds logo, and then after all that another company can just take their work and make more of it without compensating them for their work. That sounds like stealing to me.

If they wanted to keep the license, they could have paid for that. This way we get sets that are actually compatible to the previous sets. The customer wins - at least if angry birds would die.
