I think this sort of crap actually cheapens the brand and makes "Leica-curious" people skeptical of the whole Leica thing.
@WildlifeMoto2 ай бұрын
It's basic behaviour science. To be exclusive, you have to pro-actively "exclude" most people. Of course, most people don't like to feel excluded, so we pay disproportionately high prices for "membership" to the club. It's clever stuff and the reason companies like LVMH are amongst the most valuable companies on earth.
@Garone022 ай бұрын
Leica owner here - and I agree with you 100%. However, the same argument can be said about any high end consumer product: Porsche; Chanel, Patek-Philippe, Zegna. Not that I actually own any of these brands (I'm now camera-poor as you can imagine, lol) You can buy cheaper alternatives for a 10th of the price. Heck, you can use a grocery plastic bag to cary your stuff and you'll get the same result as having a Chanel purse, or a Nissan Versa for literally a 10th of a Cayenne GT3 RS to take you to the same destination. The end product is definitely the same - a picture is a picture, but one would argue that the 'getting there' is what you pay for, for these tings. In the end, whatever camera that makes you shoot more is the camera for you... but my Leica was "it" for me. If you have the chance to hold, play with, and test Leica's, I say go for it! Also.. buy used Leicas! they definitely hold their value, and some will even go up in price if you're lucky enough to pick the "right one"! A 2006 Leica M8 with a 10mp crop sensor, awful ISO performance sells for $2k - $3k USD, if you're lucky to find one since they are sought after now.. My Canon 5Dii from 2008 with way better night vision, 21mp full frame, sells for less than $400 USD mint with complete box and accessories on ebay
@gurnoorbhoey90962 ай бұрын
for the accessories it is an important note that they’re made by Zegna, a very famous italian luxury fashion house. not to justify the price or anything but it’s essentially the same as buying a designer handbag for your camera😂

It’s funny I have a few Leica’s and never thought to go to their website. I do think the leather protector for the M10 looks reasonably priced. I’ve always thought about luxury items that the reason they price this stuff so high is because they can.

The reason for the prices is because Leica is marketed as premium luxury brand. Even if I had the money I wouldn’t buy their accessories cause I know how marketing works.

I can relate to it! Leica products are very overpriced for what they deliver! You can fool yourself and pay for a Leica camera and tell everyone that pictures taken with it has a "different look" , but we all know that in most of the cases even Leica owners would not be able to distinguish between two images taken by a good camera and a Leica camera!
@sethpotterphoto2 ай бұрын
Definitely agree with all this. Anything with a Leica logo on it is overpriced. I shoot a q3 and as much as I love that camera I genuinely don’t see a big enough difference in image quality between it and my Fuji stuff to warrant the huge difference in price. As far as the cameras and lenses I’m sure Panasonic has a big hand in those too.

Would of been interesting to hear your thoughts on the Leitz Cine Summilux-C lenses. They I understand cinematographers use them for high production shoots BUT like... are they actually worth the cost? It's not even me throwing shade, I am just genuinely curious as someone who will probably never get to shoot with one

I like how Leica cameras look, but I still can't believe they are extremely expensive compared to other cameras of similar specs and features. Lecia seems to appeal more to street photographers than anyone else though.

The cameras are nice and have two vintage Leica lenses and a film body. But I doubt I'll ever own anything Leica from this century. But all these accessories are just taking The same cues that Harley-Davidson or Porsche or any other luxury brand does. "Lifestyle goods" are tacky, but hey, if it keeps the company afloat, then whatever. *Sip from a Porsche espresso cup, not like I'll ever own one, but bought a set anyways.

@Supersaurus70002 ай бұрын
I didn’t take this as a criticism of Leica optics or cameras themselves, but more so how they choose to bolster their profits with accessories and others gear. I don’t think I know of a single person, even Leica die hards, who own any of their products other than cameras and lenses

At least for the lenses and cameras, they can argue they are assembled in Germany and the workers are paid decent wages. Even so, we know the Leica manufacturing process is not unique. For every brand, the process relies heavily on machinery and workers assemble them by hand. There is no way they can justify the pricing on a bunch of imported crap with the Leica logo.

I love this video - and thank you. I'm so sick and tired of the Leica fanboy clubs on Reddit. In the film camera category I will take my Konica Hexar RF over any Leica M6 or M7 any day of the week - it's more versatile and is a better and faster shooting experience than any film Leica - I wish more folks would point this out - it's a superior product hands down. Same goes for my Contax G1 - I absolutely love this camera for what it's able to deliver at the price point. I know folks have taken issue with the focusing on the G, but for me I've never really had an issue as long as you keep your eye on the focus distance on the rangefinder window - folks today are too used to modern day mirror less cameras and haw fast they can achieve focus. The G1 is a product of it's time and as long as you are aware of what it's capable of and slow down, you wont lose focus. Anyways...I also own a 1930 Leica 1C, and a 1952 Leica IIIf - both of those cameras have been CLA'd by Youxin Ye and are used pretty regularly. I love both of these cameras and the value they bring. The old Barnak leica's are also the cheapest way to own a Leica camera without giving up both kidneys and your liver.....anyways - There are plenty of camera's out there and all of them are up to the task of taking great pictures. I never felt the need to spend $9k on a rangerfinder camera when I could get a perfectly good camera for 1/10th the price.
