The gr film cameras are notorious for breaking

A reboot of the GR film camera will be a hit ..if Pentax is more picky about the quality and endurance of the camera components (the original ones had a limited lifespan according to Daido Moriyama...) and if success brings a GR21 and then a MX ...imagine this triggers Nikon with a come back of the 28TI and a FM4 (a FM3 with a HP finder)

Just discovered your channel, love the content, presentation is on point but casual, the right length, and production is sharp but not overdone. Bravo! If we ever stumbled paths one day I would love to talk analog photography over a drink. Have a great day.

I totally agree with this, I also think this is true for him in digital photography and just photography in general. He’s not really a good photographer and has very limited technical knowledge. The guy does product photography with hand held LED hot lights to “teach” people. He doesn’t even know how to use studio strobes. He’s an amateur playing the role of a professional.

I would like to see something that does not yet exist in this form from Pentax, but which Ricoh has already brought onto the market in two ways with a Pentax K mount. I'm talking about a completely mechanical SLR camera with a metal leaf shutter and battery-powered TTL light meter. Pentax does not even have this in its own portfolio. With a cloth focal plane shutter yes, but there is no model with a metal leaf shutter from Pentax directly. Of course, the light meter should also be up to date. But I personally don't have a Pentax model that is comparable to the Nikon FM, Nikon FM2, Nikon FM2n or Nikon FM3a in terms of the criteria. With a reasonably bright focusing screen, Pentax K mount, hotshoe, and a fastest shutter speed of 1/2000 or even 1/4000 second and, as I said, with a metal leaf shutter. Of course also with a mechanical self-timer. And if possible with a metal body. That would be my Pentax dream for the analogue world. Maybe then as a Pentax K2000, who knows.

But would you be willing to pay the price for something like that?
@SchwarzPoet
@SchwarzPoet 6 сағат бұрын
@@VivaEZLN1 If I have the money, yes. Or let's put it another way... if you still want to take analogue photos in 10 - 20 years' time and don't want to pay exorbitant repair bills, you'll have to rely on new cameras like this. Because let's not mince our words, the camera manufacturers and the workshops that officially repair their old models for them are already complaining that the old technology and electronics from the 70s, 80s and 90s are increasingly giving up the ghost, even from the oh-so-great top models, and that there are no longer any spare parts for them. This means that in 30 years at the latest there will be a shortage of such analogue cameras, unless you dig even deeper into your own pockets. So brand new SLR cameras like the ones I want will definitely be necessary if anyone still wants to take analogue photos. And if you look at the situation in the world at the moment, analogue cameras will become all the more important in the foreseeable future.

I always thought the images captured by the Widelux and even with the Horizon were much more interesting compared to Xpan due to the rotating lens system and the curvature. But I won't pay 3k$ for it.

The Nana sounds like a huge disappointment. The *LAST* think I want to pay for is motorized operation. Winding the camera is part of what makes it a pleasant experience, and it's not exactly hard work. What idiot decided to make a $300 point and shoot that instead of having a glass lens just makes the experience feel less analog?

Was hoping for a MX re-intro, still mostly mechanical but reliable electronics . So much K glass out there, it would make building a kit easy and fun, and tie the new product with Pentax history. If point and shoot, let it be something special like the GR 21.

People think $500 is too much for the Pentax 17 and now they've got a fixed f11, fixed shutter speed point and shoot for $350? Oof. I expect the Widelux to be $2k at least. I don't think the issue with cost and a new Pentax is designing, but manufacturing. Sure they could bring out the old plans and designs for previous cameras but all the tooling and machine work for those parts may or may not be available anymore. I couldnt see them making a modern gr1 for less than $800 probably.

It's a tough situation. I wonder how much a rangefinder coupling would've added to the Pentax 17 price. Because 600$ for a new rangefinder would probably sound more reasonable than 500$ for a point and shoot with zone focus.

Well, I think they are there more for PR and money and the guys of silvergrain doing more practical things. Of course it's not that black and white, but so manufacturing for example takes place in the Frankfurt a/M region, where Silvergrain is also based. I held some test parts earlier this year, they use some interesting techniques and the parts felt good.

While the first 15 years of consumer point-and-shit digital cameras with their worthless contrast AF have left a bad taste in my mouth, I totally trust the IR-AF systems on my 80s/90s compacts. The system measures the distance (usually instantly), then racks the lens. No muss, no fuss.

Late to the party but one thing the older digital P&S bring to the party is *some* of them have pretty decent lenses in front of the tiny sensor. This can yield good iamge quality, within the constraints of the sensor, vs a phone and it's tiny slivers of glass. Cell phone photography leverages the processing power of the phone, AI, and automated image processing foo to get good IQ. They are still kinda atrocious as pure cameras. I get better results from a 15 year old 14mp DSLR shooting RAW with 1980's lenses than my "64mp" phone camera shooting DNG, and much of that has to do with the hunk of aluminum and glass in front of the sensor. I get the most enjoyment out of shooting a manual film camera WITH mf lenses that are old enough to join AARP.

The lighest, most expensive, nicest looking, fastest isn't always the best ... I now own a Leica M6 Titanium, but I won it and would never have bought a Leica unless it was at a super low price, or one of the unwanted and unloved models like the Leica T or M5. I use mainly super cheap secondhand M43 cameras or Canon EOS / EOS M bodies and any brand of lens as long as it does the job.
