Archie Moore was both the oldest and longest reigning light heavyweight champion in all time history. Despite the fact nobody really knows how old he was or how many times he fought. The old Mongoose was a menace deep into his 40's.

I'm only 22 but lemme say this. The amount of fight left in you as a person varies between how much fire you have left in your soul. I know about earnie shavers, Edwin Valero, bas rutten, Emmanuel Augustus just as much as I know about current goats like khazmat, Isreal adesanya, chuck Liddell. My point being. This piece of history is always interesting to watch as a combat fan. No matter if its boxing, MMA, silat, savate, Kenpo, karate, Muay Thai. All combat is to be respected and all pioneers of the sports should be recognized. Such as this man right here. Keep that fire my brother. Expand your knowledge and keep it going 💪🏾

It's a shame he was only a light heavyweight moonlighting as a heavyweight. Old school heavyweight champs 165 lb Fitzsimmons, 175 lb Burns, 181 lb Charles, 182 lb Patterson, and 184 lb Marciano are Gone. Finished. History. No disrespect but little Rocky couldn't hold a candle to 277 lb Undefeated Fury, 272 lb Undefeated Joyce, 247 lb Undefeated Sanchez, 246 lb Undefeated Hrgovic or 242 lb Undefeated Anderson. They were all simply too small back then and modern top-notch 250+lb Super Heavyweights would be too much.

@@TugIronChief Lol. You like to pretend like Marciano had a crystal ball or can see the future or some shit. Ali said himself: *"I truly think he was better than Joe Frazier. You know what Joe Frazier did to me. He (Marciano) may have won. It's just hard. It's just for the imagination... I don't know if I would have beaten him with his style and my style. He could've outpointed me, he could've knocked me down. I did a computer fight with him when he was an old man and just pretending and my arms were sore just from joking with him. Now, if you know boxing history, you would know that they had so many greats that came out of that era, Hank Armstrong three time three world division champion simultaneously that will never be done again Archie Moore 145 knockouts never to be broken in history, Sonny Liston and Marciano did NOT retire because he didn’t want to fight them. Michael Spinks went undefeated fighting during the deepest era in Light Heavyweight History. He easily beat Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and Dwight Muhammad Qawi and knocked out Yaqui Lopes and Marvin Johnson, which was not easy to do in their primes. And he beat the real Heavyweight Champion to win the title, who was also undefeated. Michael Spinks is the most accomplished Light Heavyweight Champion in History. Combined, Charles and Moore lost (48) times and were KO'd (14) times! So how is it Charles and Moore ranks higher than Spinks? Same applies with Marciano. How does a 185 lb man who never fought any genuine Heavyweights rank higher than Lewis Foreman Vitali Tyson Holmes Fury Holyfield Wladimir Bowe Liston Wilder Frazier Norton? Little Rocky would have to gain 15 lbs just to be competitive at cruiserweight.

A boxer like Archie Moore is an example of refinement in boxing abilities and techniques because he fought so often and stayed active. Through hundreds of fights so frequently his abilities as a fighter were the best. Imagine if boxers or today fought so often. These days most boxers are fighting twice or three times a year.

There were no strict rules or regulations back then. Today's boxers wouldn't be allowed to fight 20+ times per year medically speaking. Besides being able to fight 220 fights like Moore did only proves he fought during the weak post war era.
@michaelhubbard4023
@michaelhubbard4023 Жыл бұрын
@@black_David_bobbyd5276 Boxers were not getting paid as much in those days so they had to fight more to earn a decent living. Up coming boxers fight more than champions even today because they aren't making lots of money and they are trying to make a name for themselves. Boxing like anything else in life is a sport that if a person fights more then they get better at what they are doing. Archie Moore, Ray Robinson and Duran are examples of these types of fighters.

Still, I'd love to see how really great Moore was in his prime, probably 23 years old to, say, 33 years old. That he managed to achieve what he did at the age he was tells you how really great he was. There's a damn good reason George Foreman had him in his corner. He wanted to pick the ol' Mongooses brain on how to be successful at an older (for a fighter) age, and it worked!!! RIP Archie.....

"All I wanted was fights, I didn't give a damn who I fought." With that mentality and attitude I'd say this guy loved and enjoyed fighting. He loved the sport. And when you're passionate about what you do, you tend to excel.

Much more impressive when you think about a 1950s 40 and a 2020 40 is totally different I promise you he felt every one of those years

Man since you’re getting this deep I can’t wait for you to get to the REAL P4P top 5 all time. Greb, Langford, Wilde, Armstrong & Sugar Ray. Archie is the only man to fight Marciano and Ali, along with Sir Ezzard Charles is considered the Mount Rushmore of LHW ✊🏽

Archie Moore one the all time greats. I have serious respect for any boxer that goes over 100 fights. Archie fought 220 times... a warrior. Also aged well to 84, he even acted after.

I remember watching Archie Moore boxing Bobo Olson, Yvon Durele, and Rocky Marciano. I marveled at Archie Moore in his fight with Durele. At just 6 years old, I had my first hero!

I know @kaluoli but there are the Olympics to consider and I feel he is an underrated champion because of his last fight with Nigel Benn. He is my favorite knock out artist.

I know @Gregory Bush, there are other documentaries on Gerald McClellan on other channels but not on this one. I know remember Gerald being talked about once in the Julian the Hawk Jackson. I still strongly believe and know that Gerald is underrated and I hope that @Rhythm Boxing can shed light on people like Gerald and other fighters big or small.

Great video! I know Marciano is always criticized about fighting old fighters but Moore sure didn't look lame here.
