In 1987 I was working at my first job in Las Vegas -- I was working at the spa, and Archie Moore was there with George Foreman. I asked, "Sir, can I shake your hand?" Of all the fighters that I met in Vegas, Moore stands out as the most gracious, intelligent, and wise of them all. He looked me directly in the eyes, just a very bright and alert man, very sincere, and I felt illuminated.

Echo that! Jesse Kaellis I read Foreman's biography in which he states his reasons for hiring Archie Moore for his second career
@MrBodypro89 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah. I need to read that book. Or, I think I did read it. George started using that crossed arm defense that Moore used. Norton used that posture as well, less effectively. I met a lot of fighters down there because there were fights upstairs -- Top Rank, and guys would come down to check their weight on the medical scale, which they hauled upstairs for the weigh-ins.

Ah, I'm okay. Pretty good really. I have a problem with my spine. An old problem but it's getting worse. I need surgery and am exploring that option now. Like the medical tourism deal. I hope you're doing well.

It took me 42 years just to have the nerve to introduce myself and shake his hand while working fight card. The firsttime at SeaWorld we were alone outside in the pavilion, I could not get the nerve to even speak. Very good man from my childhood.

When I was in the 7th grade at Memorial Jr. High School in San Diego CA. me and another classmate Tommy Logans were on a flatbed truck with Archie Moore boxing and parading down the street in Logan Heights. Archie Moore was the referee this was on a Thursday the following Saturday he fought Rocky Marciano for the Heavy weight Title of the World. Archie Moore was a great Man beyond the ring...Once we were picking Safeway Store in National City in support of the grape boycott by United Farm Workers and some men in a bar next door were yelling at us "communists". Archie drove by, stopped his car, picked up a picket sign and joined us in the picket line. I grew up in Shelltown where he lived. I have very fond memories of a great Man and I would love to have a photo of us on that flatbed truck.

One thing I'll say about Archie Moore He was the most worthy champion of all time for his division. He Paid the price that so few pay, and was forced to wait 10 years and 50 fights more than he should have had to for his title. He won the title at 35 years old when he should have been fighting for it at 25. AND HE HELD IT FOR 10 YEARS!!!! He held it until he was 46 years old!

The initial thing attracted me to Archie Moore was his name then I had to see the man himself and as I was happily greeted to see his face I was so well please to see a very pleasant happy jubilee face and then to find out he had great character only to Purdue doing things in a honorable way to succeed and conker no matter how hard it was. He went through great hardship just to make a living and back in his time it was real hard. And went on and won enormous fights. I didn't come along til l948. But heard of alot of name through my dad of course Archie was one. Thank You Archie Morre with respect. The greatest jubilee smiles I've ever seen. You did your job. Archie I remember you and seeing you in audience's at boxing areas later in life during Ali time. R.I.P. ARCHIE MOORE

Greg Bluesland he crossed his arms in a stupid way and taught Forman to do the same thing, and ken Norton adapted it, the best defence is offence that's why prime Tyson was so good

@@sepulcher8263 one of the greatest boxer of the late 1880's and early 1890's. he was known for his great defense. he was so good he actually one of the few boxers who had the longest winning streak in boxing. He's 7-1-3 in his first 10 fights then went into 79-1-38 before tasting his second defeat. He was also a world featherweight champion and a top rated lightweight boxer.

Moore was a counterpuncher extraordinaire! In my opinion, he was both Marquez and Walcott. When you combine both, you get a counterpunching boxer-puncher. Unfortunately, a counterpuncher's problem is that they are outworked or overwhelmed by fast or combination punchers. But, I do believe that AIi's phantom punch was something he learned from Moore whether he gave him the credit or not! Who else could have schooled AIi with such a punch in his career? To me, that's Archie's legacy; his abilities made him a guru and you could benefit greatly by adding what he did to your game or offensive gameplan! He maxed out the counterpunching style as a boxer, but I don't think he was nearly as great a fighter as he was a teacher, though!

He was my mentor , a friend to the friendless "......he told me once that a late round stoppage is more impressive then a first round one. It shows grit and will and that you have been doing it the old way , lots of jump rope and jogging. With a record like Archie Moore's , how is it that Ali is the greatest of all time ? - the answer: because that title is self proclaimed by Ali him self.
@hipphipphurra773 жыл бұрын

@gregbluesland94108 жыл бұрын
+malc jow no Rocky was too heavy for a younger Archie, Rocky hit too hard and could take anything Archie could dish out, I think Archie would have beat Patterson though if 6 years younger. Archie's defence was great but Rocky would still get inside and win there
@rockyfish31156 жыл бұрын

Taron Harris Archie turned pro in the mid1930's. His last fight was in 1963, he was 50yrs old then. He had more fights & KO's than those you mentioned combined. Christ, he already was in his 40's when he fought Marciano. He was an antique by the time of Liston,Ali,&Patterson. What do you expect from the guy?
