As you can imagine, traveling across all 48 states as fast as we did, making videos along the way... I will occasionally misspeak. Given that I edit these after the fact, I can't go back and re-record in that setting, so here is something to note from this video in Connecticut: When talking about MOM Rules, here in Connecticut, the MOM stipulation only applies for those who are on Medicare AND QMB. The Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program provides Medicare coverage of Part A and Part B premiums and cost sharing to low-income Medicare beneficiaries. I apologize for the confusion!

Even though you're not visiting Alaska and Hawaii on this trip, I hope you will go over medicare in those states.

Don't know much about Connecticut -- I've just driven through it to get to somewhere else. Fastest I've ever driven is 100 mph in Italy on the Autostrada in 1987.

Sounds like an awesome experience! We didn't get much time here either outside Yale. Yale was cool though!

Boy, some people go really fast! I think I have done 83 or so! Live in CT and wife has N plan, for $156. We will see what 2025 brings, when I too will hop on Medicare. Hope you had time to get to Wooster St. You were really close at Yale!! I worked across the green from Yale for 35 years. Yale was always a great place for a lunchtime walk.

In states like New York and Connecticut people will just flock to HDG and Advantage plans.

I am thinking about it as my plan N is going up 15% and I expect the part D plan premium to skyrocket.

A question about switching back to OM from advantage plan in CT. Can you also do that during the annual advantage plan period from January 1 to March 31? And if so, since CT is a GI state, add a medigap plus part D plan at that time? The fastest I have gone in a car was 80 mph. 😅. Btw I hope you had a pizza at Sally's and stopped for a bite at Claire's where the people are super friendly!

Yes, that is a valid period 🙂 80 seems very reasonable

I did not hear about supplement plan premium discounts being available in Ct. If i missed it sorry. I was in a car going 120 once.
@Theretirementnerds

I did forget to talk about those, didn't I! All the sirens must've distracted me too much :) You do have discounts available in CT. A couple plans have the Multi-insured (you and a spouse both have a supplement plan with the same company) and a couple have a roommate discount. Fewer discount options here though, which is typical of community rated states. Don't see any with a wearable discount :(

128 as a passenger. Just got N in CT. I saw suggestions to get HDG and switch to G or N if I need a heart lung transplant. I didn't think I had the energy for that.

That'd fast! Switching can be annoying. Supplement to supplement there is much easier than advantage to supplement from a timing perspective

I don't recall how fast I've been in a car, when I was younger, I'm sure I hit 80 mph. But I've been taking the defensive driver review online for many years, I realize how dangerous driving is (a lot of it is not enough distance between you and anything else, and, other drivers). Since I became a private pilot years ago, speed on the road doesn't impress me much. My rickety old Cessna starts flying at 60 mph :)

For people who live in CT, when they switch from advantage to supplement, do they pay the same premium supplement rate as the people who are on the original supplement plan. Would they be charged a higher premium for switching, especially if they have medical conditions? Any penalties?
@Theretirementnerds

I’ve only gotten a speeding ticket once. The fastest I’ve ever driven was 85. If you come back again, watch out for I-84 near the Mass border! Hope you enjoyed your visit to our beautiful state! Who is your CT partner? Can you leave their phone number? Thanks!

Helpful video. Thanks. One clarifying question. Is a heart attack considered a qualifying event to switch from Medicare Advantage to a supplement plan immediately in CT or NY? Or would I still need to wait until January? How fast can one change? Speaking of speed, I believe it was 105 mph. I'm not sure, but that's what the officer told me, but it was 30 years ago. : -).
@Theretirementnerds

It is not considered a qualifying event to switch :( Here is a list of special enrollment period reasons: www.medicare.gov/basics/get-started-with-medicare/get-more-coverage/joining-a-plan/special-enrollment-periods 105 is impressive!

Your information regarding excess charges is incorrect and you need to correct it. Excess charges in CT ARE allowed UNLESS they are enrolled in the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) level. This information is literally available on the CT government website portal. The fact sheet states that "There is some incorrect and misleading information on certain websites stating that Medicare Beneficiaries cannot be charged Part B excess charges". You just perpetuated this misinformation. Please be more diligent and make a correction.

Great catch. I asked several Medicare agents and they had all been told CT was a mom state. Nothing about QMB. Unfortunately, the carriers, companies that are paid to keep up and so on miss things. This is why I always tell our clients we are always learning. Thanks for pointing this out so everyone will know.
