My favorite building is Guggenheim Museum in New York City. I live in upstate NY and EVERYTHING here is crazy expansive, not just the healthcare. All because of NYC. They gobble up all the tax payments and there is nothing left for the rest of us.

The most expensive state in the country from a supplement perspective :(

My favorite NYS building is my home. I want to first send condolences to you and your family with the loss of your Mom. The photo of you two hugging made me cry. Secondly, I want to thank you for all the excellent information to give to all the viewers. Being a NYS resident I especially appreciate the extra info you give to help us begin to sort thru the plans to find what is best for each individual. May the memory of your Mum be a blessing for all your family. ❤

Building formerly called RCA Building. I'm in NYC and paying UnitedHealthCare's high rate for the supplement. My best friend in California is the same age as me and he pays half what I do. But I was on the Affordable Care Act before 2022 and it was very expensive in NYC too. The same protections about guaranteed approval and age not being a factor apply to those outside of Medicare in NY. For me Medicare + Supplement still costs significantly less than the HMO ACA plan I had, but now I have total freedom to get care anywhere in the country without the limits of a network. Your video gave me new information about not being able to switch from Advantage to Supplement instantly during the year so that gives me an extra reason to stay with the supplement (I was already aware of New York's guaranteed issue rules). Thanks for the video - I was awaiting this one with great curiosity.

HDG. You still have original Medicare and all the benefits that go with it and usually half the out-of-pocket cost limit of Advantage.

Thanks for covering NY. A very expensive place to live but with top shelf medical care facilities and doctors.

My favorite building in New York is Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, where I had my wedding. You should check it out if you go by that way. My husband is 69 and we have a Medicare advisor who has been helping us navigate it. I have another nine years to go before Medicare is available to me, but this information is very useful to our household. Thank you,

Finally!! I live in New York, have been to the top of the Empire State Building, and turn 65 next year so this video is hugely applicable to me. My current thinking is to start out on an Advantage plan, and switch (realizing the switching restrictions) to a Supplement plan before my health declines too much🤞thankfully I reside where there is a robust Advantage network, and my health is currently very good.

I have to admit, I didn't realize if I selected an Advantage plan that I couldn't switch immediately to a supplement plan the following month. I am on a supplement plan but have considered flipping to an Advantage plan. That is now out the window.

It's a common strategy! I've never been in the Empire state building 🙁

If you started on a supplement plan and want to try an Advantage, you can for a year. Trial right #2 🙂

Empire State Building. Thanks so much for this video. I happen to live in Upstate NY. Regarding Medicare, NY state seems to be on another planet. It's so far removed from the averages it's laughable. Thanks again. When the time comes I'll likely go with plan G-HD

My real estate taxes are way higher than anything I'd pay for Medicare. I'm outta here!

I've been waiting for your NY video. I knew it was more expensive here, but i definitely have some sticker shock. I have about 9 months before i need to sign up. Lots of homework to do in the meantime. Hope you got to see the Chrysler building while you were in NYC. It is so striking & especially beautiful at night

I live in Staten Island New York and I simply can't afford the supplement plans. I plan on going to the Medicare Advantage for that reason.

There's nothing wrong with that decision. Have you considered, however, a High Deductible G?

Glad you made it to the sane part of New York. Upstate New York is beautiful and has the misfortune of being tied to that anchor in the south (NYC). If I lived in upstate NY, I'd definitely get a HDG plan for the monthly premium and just save money myself for the $2800 deductible. As far as buildings go, not that it's historic at all (which I love old historic buildings) but the Luxor pyramid in Las Vegas is amazing inside.

NYC is fun, outside of the Medicare pricing! Great buildings. Any Art Deco structure in the city gets my attention. Sure, the Chrysler building and the Empire State Building are known, but a personal favorite was One Wall Street. I live outside NYC in Westchester and I was surprised by the limited options I had for my Medicare provider, unless I chose a Medicare Advantage plan. AARP/United Health Care was basically it, outside of EmblemHealth, which I believe is NY State only. Emblem at least offers all the supplement plans, as well as HDG. United Healthcare doesn't offer HDG. To be fair, yes, there were other insurance companies offering supplement plans, but they were substantially higher than UHC. Should I be concerned that United Healthcare will eventually control the market once all the other providers are pushed out, and then they'll really jack up their premiums? I do have a question, Is Connecticut the same as NY when it comes to Medicare? But seriously, not just NYC, all of America should have been Art Deco. : -)
@TheretirementnerdsКүн бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch! So many great buildings 👷♂️ I don't think they'd jack up premiums. I think they'd set them low enough to keep companies from being able to enter the market. If they go too high, more competitors can come take business. Check out the Connecticut video 🙂

Dang, that's expensive! Are the residets there okay with that? I mean, it seems crazy, who can afford that as a retiree? Outside of the NYC metro area, many people aren't extremely wealthy out in the rest of the state...I wonder how many people pick a state to retire to based on Medicare costs? I think a lot of people think od the no income tax states but there are other costs in those states...Years ago I was in the observation deck of the "Sears Tower" (as it was known then, I think its the Willis Tower now?) in Chicago, and also in downtown Chicago there is one of the city's original water pumping stations, that was neat. NYC being older certainly has some neat architecture!

It doesn't matter if they're okay with it. Lol!
@Theretirementnerds2 күн бұрын
I know a lot of people flock to Florida and Arizona for retirement (among other places). Tax could be part of it. Cost of living for sure. I don't think anyone picks their state on Medicare, but hopefully these videos help as someone considers moving.
@bravebluechickadee2 күн бұрын
That's way the supplement plans have a low penetration rate. Most folks choose Advantage plans.
@ChrisSadowski-pp1np2 күн бұрын
@@bravebluechickadee yes but with HDG there's no reason to pick an advantage plan. Advantage plans are managed care.

Is Rockefeller Center a building? Anyhow my question isn't about NY Medicare per se but about the 2 MA 12-month Trial Rights you mentioned. It sounds like an individual who works BEYOND 65, postponing Part B et al, loses his #1 Trial Right? If he enrolls in MA when he starts Medicare at 68 retirement, he loses his right to a supplement without underwriting if he hates MA within his first year of participating? True? So interesting learning about the unique Medicare rules in other states. Great concept.
@Theretirementnerds2 күн бұрын
Correct on trial right 1! NY is a bit different where supplements are easier to get, but yes, taking Medicare after the 65th birthday voids trial right 1 but not 2
