I can’t be at my employer alone. We have mandatory 2 employees for safety at all times and the building isn’t 2 miles long, moving at 45 mph.

Digital information display has helped. But I hate trip optimizer! The6000,s are cutting edge followed by es44ac units..yes on 2 person crews!!! Retired

You know that crewless cabs are just around the corner. Probably why this strike environment went virtually unyieldingly to the companies. I don't know railroading, but I do know business and anything that eliminates payroll costs, human error, downtimes is inevitably going to supercede history. The very fact that they're testing out driverless trucks and vehicles where steering and numerous variables exist makes something that runs along a fixed rail with PTC infrastructure too easy to pass up.

The digital stuff sounds cool in theory and sometimes is , but especially with ac units it can be frustrating. A comparison between a newer ac unit and say a 40 year old sd-40 is stark. While the ac unit performs much better and burns less fuel, the computerized system shows it's ass as it logs faults every few feet of movement. When it finally craps out the electrician has to parse through hundreds of faults. The old engine just keeps on pulling.
