More important is "will the solar panels keep up with the electrical demand?" If you have 1200 watt hours to use, then you have 1200Wh (+20%) to put back into the battery before you have another battery full of TV watching. If the solar harvest isn't sufficient then it's not the battery but the recharging that's the problem.

What a channel with such useful content! Thank you! So rare to find information of this nature on the internet! Quick question: If the TV has a 12v adapter output, then that's better, right? Because there is no need to connect the inverter. I was thinking of buying a TV with an power consumption of 36W - with a 12v adapter (so there is no need to connect the inverter), is that too much power for a lithium battery? Should I look for a TV with a lower output wattage? Thanks for your help!

That is a huge system, primarily because of AC and refrigerator. Use a propane refrigerator and when AC is required just run a generator because its not worth the extra cost to size your solar system for the AC when you will only use it a few months a year, what do you do with the extra power the rest of the year? That is a waste. sizing a solar setup for a microwave Tv and lights is much much cheaper. you can do it with 600 watts of panels a 24 volt 100 amp hr battery and a 2kw inverter.

@dr_jaymz7 ай бұрын
The irony is that led tv's use at most 5v. Even older ones used to use around 12v for b+. On top of which most modern switched mode power supplies are happy to work with anything above 80v ac or dc they don't care they rectify it. 12V lead acid with 100ah is 100ah by its definition so its 1200Wh both chemistries have a capacity dependent on load. A typical 100ah lead acid will be more than that at very light load and considerably less at high load. The tv is a light load so you will get around 100ah.
@Ts64517 ай бұрын
Sure, you can extract all the power from a lead acid battery, but you generally don't want to do that for cyclic use applications, since lead acid batteries tend to degrade more the deeper you discharge them. Of course, there are many factors involved, but as a rough rule for back of the envelope calculations, you can assume 400 cycles for 100% discharge, 1200 if you only use 1/2 the capacity, 2200 if you use 1/3, 3000 for 1/4. So, people generally advice that you over-provision a lead acid system with twice what you expect to need, as while it doubles the needed capacity, it triples the expected life. Of course, having an over-provisioned system does offer the option to actually use that extra power in an emergency/unplanned situation where the benefit of using the power might offset the degradation concerns.

@Tab7.6.Tab7.66 ай бұрын
It must be a seriously big battery 😉 Let's assume, simplistically, that a 300W inverter consumes about 10W on its own consumption (on average 0.6Ax12.7V + taking efficiency into account). A 32" TV needs, in an very optimistic scenario, 25W. Together we have 35W, multiplied by 8 hours we get 280Wh, this value multiplied by 7 days = 1960Wh. 1960Wh divided by a standard 12V lead-acid battery voltage gives a capacity of 163,33Ah. Because you wrote that after a week of such use the battery is not even 50% discharged, this means, that it must have a capacity of more than 326.66Ah. Where can I buy such a huge lead acid battery? Is this a battery from a forklift? 😁

Calculations on a current basis should take into account the efficiency of the inverter. The most common situation is that with a 12/230V inverter, the current drawn from the battery is 1/10th of the power drawn at the output of the inverter. That is, in simple terms, loading the inverter with a power of 76W, 7.6A is drawn from the battery (at 12.7V). However, calculations on watt-hours are much more accurate, since the value of the current drawn increases as the voltage on the battery decreases.

@panagdimi8 ай бұрын
A device with an external power brick is easier to adapt to direct DC to DC power. But all electronic appliances will have inside the case a step down transformer and bridge rectifier which converts 120 AC (in the US at least) to DC voltage. Most likely that will be around 12 volts, so all you have to do is trace the circuit where the step down transformer is feeding to and provide your direct DC to DC there. If you know what you're doing (and always being extra careful) it's a good idea to measure the transformer's unloaded output voltage, and that will tell you what type of DC power you need to provide. And always take into consideration the necessary current requirements. At 120 voltage AC it will probably be a few amps but at 12 volts DC that number will be much higher so make sure your external brick can handle that. Fairly easy procedure if you know what you're doing, but do not attempt if you don't know (what you doing). 😋
@ghz248 ай бұрын
@@panagdimi That is true but alot more effort than picking a TV that already has one and just replicating the power plug type.
