Yes this is a beautiful time of the year, it does bring the constant working of numbers and trying to make sure you can cover the feed till spring. I've bought a few protein tubs recently and it, like everything else seems like the price has gone up exponentially. Good post Bryan, get some R&R, the temperature will drop soon and calving starts!

I’ve noticed these ones we buy have gone up by about 20% the last couple years. I hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving and you are also getting to enjoy a little bit of slow time.

Haha it’s a good way to ruin my back too. We usually try to plan ahead and use a tractor when we have one running but I spaced it the day before.

Thanks. Winter is starting to set in, luckily we don’t have as much snow as we normally do for this time of year so we’ve been able to keep grazing. How’s your hay doing?

Looking forward to a few welding projects. Our cows would have a fit if they had to work that hard to find food. Have been feeding them hay for 2 weeks and we don't have snow. They are going on the corn and hay fields this week now that deer season is over.they will eat good they love the corn they find but a lot passes through without being digested stay warm
@LuthiRanchWY4 күн бұрын
So do you not put them out there for fear of hunters accidentally shooting them? There isn’t any corn in this area, I’ve seen a lot of videos of people grazing their corn fields though.
@ToddMuehleip3 күн бұрын
No fear of them being shot butthey are a bother when we are hunting so just keep them out of the way. Deer don't really like them

Can you run a scraper over the fields to make it easier for the livestock to find the grass?
@LuthiRanchWY5 күн бұрын
We’ve thought about that also, running a harrow or something similar over hard crusty snow.
@JBlow-ip7hf4 күн бұрын
If the snow is fluffy a tractor powered leaf blower. They really blow the leaves. The one at work on a 30hp tractor will blow the huge pile of wet leaves 20 plus feet

Your snow sure is gorgeous; we don't get that here. Not sure I could hack it living somewhere that it's normal to have single digits, though; the twenties have been bad enough! Praying for your feeding and hay situation.

Haha you seem to get used to it about like most things. Thanks for the prayers!

If it does snow heavy will you put them in the river bottom? I know a little snow won't hurt but just wondering how that would work. Hopefully you can graze for awhile
@LuthiRanchWY4 күн бұрын
Yes that’s the plan. Once it snow enough that it is hard for them to reach the shorter feed we will stick them in the river bottoms where the taller feed is at. Hopefully the tall feed will still be exposed like I was showing in the video.

Where do u get the mineral tubs Tsc ? How much r the tubs , any welding projects in the future? Before u start having babies?
@LuthiRanchWY5 күн бұрын
I get our mineral tubs from a place called Bomgaars. If you can catch them on sale they are $65 a tub. I do have a few welding projects I’d like to get going on at some point. One of thems just a house/furniture project. I’m still debating on building a portable loading chute or finding and old one to buy and rebuilding it.

That would get pretty spendy pretty fast at that price. Our are just an off brand and probably aren’t as high of quality like KeyLix or the other name brand ones but they seem to do fine for us.

What is the fan on top of wood burner
@LuthiRanchWY5 күн бұрын
I can’t remember what brand it is but it’s a heat powered fan. So it actually uses the heat from the stove to power the fan. If you google heat powered stove fan you’ll find a bunch of them.

@@LuthiRanchWY I take screenings from the mill I got two different kinds. They're corn screenings some as course and some is fine like a powder so I buy a bag of minerals. I buy some whole corn. I usually buy a bag of screenings from the oats. I buy soy meal and I take scoops of each and put it in a 5 gallon pail, I got a scoop of corn fill all my buckets fill like 10 buckets up scoop of soy scoop corn screenings, two scoops of the powder kind, etc. and then I'll dump it into another trashcan and I'll mix it up and then I'll dump it into a barrel so it's all mixed up It takes a couple hours to do it. I had her helping me today so it went faster. Usually takes me like three hours four hours today we did it in 2 now I bought a old grinder mixer like a year ago but I haven't messed with it yet to see what's not working and what is working so I just wanna be able to dump it in there and have That mix it and then I'll put it into a grain gravity wagon . in the summertime I foment my feed though I do exactly what I just did but I put it in a barrel and I soak it with water and I feed that mainly for the pig I give a scoop to my cows cause they like it, but I also give them a button cattlefeed if I didn't do this, I wouldn't have this pig. I have sows 2 boars 10 piglets , we sold 2 today
