I HAVE MADE A 100% RECOVERY. I haven't even thought of derealisation for half a year now, even though I went through hell with it last year. Everything fell apart around me, I thought I had gone insane, entered another dimension, everything felt absolutely terrifying, dark, devoid of hope and I felt like I got stuck in a place that I couldn't exit evem through death. I had brutal intrusive thoughts all day every day about dying, freaking out about philosophocal questions of consciousness, reality and afterlife. I thought I was gone forever. But day after day, I actually spent more and more time with my normal self. By following Shaun's guide, not stopping my life and gritting my teeth even though I thought I am literally going mad actually helped me make a COMPLETE recovery. Stop researching, stop looking at forums, stop analysing your thoughts, stop trying to engage with and interact with your scary thoughts. They mean absolutely nothing, they are a symptom of anxiety. You do not have to address the content of them, ever. I have forgotten so much about derealisation, that I have only come back to this channel to leave this comment here to give hope to others. YOU WILL MAKE A COMPLETE COMEBACK AND YOU WILL BE A 100% YOURSELF. You might not believe it right now but believe someone who had it so bad they wanted to kill themselves and STILL MADE IT TO THE OTHER SIDE. It's beautiful on this side and I can't wait for you guys to arrive here as well! Life is beautiful, you are NEVER alone and nothing is as dark as it may seem now. Hold on, the darkness PASSES FOREVER. ❤

Is it normal that the Recovery can last Longer than 1 year? Its Already 1 year and sometimes its harder as the begining
@BizzyQC
@BizzyQC Ай бұрын
@@Rrrmmmmm Bro it happened a couple years ago after a bad trip (which could be due to some laced weed because it wasn’t mine) but Honestly it’s just a simple mental blockage. You just have to not focus on it and once you stoped focusing on it it will wear off like it was nothing. My depersonalization lasted for 3 months. People will say that it’s a problem but they are always focusing on « I’m I still high » or « Will this change my mental forever » or « I’m not the same anymore ». If you just carry with your life do some sports and focus on one thing at a time and stop thinking about « I’m I ok ? » you will return to normal just like I did. I’m currently 19 years old, still smoking weed from time to time and studying in architecture in college. If I could do it you can do it! Just stop thinking about it! 💪

@@Rrrmmmmm Basically it will stop once you understand how it works and that you realize that it’s your brain tricking you. If you stop worrying about « when I’ll become normal » or « when will I stop feeling high » you will return to normal my friends!
@t091293
@t091293 6 күн бұрын
@@Rrrmmmmm it will absolutely pass, mine lasted for close to one year and it has left with no traces. just live your life as normal. have a schedule, don't avoid situations, just live your everyday, casual, natural life, and your brain will understand there is no danger anymore. try not to talk about it with others. i know it is tempting, and in almost all cases of mental difficulties, talking to others about it is helpful, but not in this case. just don't give it any attention. if you feel anxious, let yourself be anxious, don't fight the feeling, but keep on doing all your activities REGARDLESS, simultanously to having anxiety. believe me, you'll be completely fine and you won't even remember this.

Hey guys ,I’m here to tell you that everything’s gonna be alright.I know this for certain because I was once in your position , It all started with 1 panick attack one night for absolute no reason and it changed my life I stared getting panick attacks everyday I had a very bad brain fog , I was soo weak and kepted vomitting I couldn’t eat nothing ,I couldn’t sleep I kepted shaking,and I din’t feel real at all , I kepted having these weird unrealistic thoughts and i was sooo confused. I lost soo much weight I had very bad existential thoughts and I also had nightmares of not being real I was scared of the sky I was scared of my voice and body.I’ll stop here because if I keep listing all of the symptoms we’ll be here for a long time.But I just want to say I was In your place thinking it’s over for me but I just want to say stay strong everything will be okay ,dp took sooo much from me but it can’t ever take anymore from me.Your real your not going crazy ,your okay and your not dying it’s all just the dp and trust me it will go away don’t believe people that say it’s a permanent condition because it’s not ,you’ll get your life back.Stay strong guys I know it’s hard but you can do this💕💕💕

Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

If you smoked weed and you still feel like you're living in a dream or something similar I want to tell you that I was in your position two days ago. Yea, the feeling that you might not be able to control yourself and your body would induce me paranoia and fear. What helped me, was first, remembering what Shaun said "it is temporary and It will go away", I put all my hopes in that, and even if sometimes was so hard to control the anxiety I just tried to focus on breathing; I called my girl and friends to get distracted and tried to work as normal as possible. I decided that, if this was temporary I would not care about how long it would take. I know is so hard because a day ago you were living your best life being yourself and at the next day you feel like you lost everything you used to be, but I can tell you that remaining calm is the key, just try to put your focus somewhere else and I promise you, you'll be alright, you'll be able to give your brain a break to recover. I did get better, and you can too, always remeber that.

I just overcame my DP DR episode a week or so ago and wanted to share my journey. I bought the manual and it definitely helped keep me calm and trust that the episode shall pass. However, what really helped me was understanding that all of this was caused when my mind decided to dissociate for the first time ever. Although it was scary, I had to go back into the event and ask my subconscious why it felt so scared, causing dissociation. It took a couple of days, but my subconscious decided to reveal the answer and once that answer popped up and I sat with it, just like that I felt a big chunk of the anxiety release and felt emotions again. Previously I could feel anxiety on every inch of my body, but after the release happened I only felt anxiety in the chest. I kept on working for the next week to dig deeper on all the underlying reasons causing my anxiety and also to get back to the normal rhythm of life. Now, I'm happy to say that 95% of the anxiety is gone and life is back to normal. Although DP DR is scary and feels like it will last an eternity, you will get through it and you will be stronger because of it. Take it one day at a time and allow your subconscious to talk to you, without judgement. You might have to go back into the event to understand what happened and why. You will get through this and you are strong enough to get through this. ❤

so, sayakchakraborty3125, when you understood the event and reasons with your subconscious, did you solve the traumatic conflict in real world, by going to that people and fixing the conflict. or there are Emdr work for subconscious trauma and conflicts. or did you just remembered the event, and understood the reason and live with that emotion. also what about the time issue, the events were in the past, so since that past time, you lived with this for a while. best.

Yup, had this when my anxiety started, never focused on it until i got a panic attack, then I started looking at it as a separate problem, which started all “what if” questions and reassuring, which increased the anxiety and fears, which increased the dp and the cycle began. It’s all anxiety, it’s completely normal, but when you focus on one symptom and google about it you freak out, and the symptom gets worse, but just like any other symptom of anxiety, its harmless. Great video !

I have had Dp from weed in a bit more than a year. And it is sad that I discovered your channel now. I have physical anxiety attacks everyday and i try to keep myself distracted as much as possible. In the beginning I never knew what it was. Doctors were saying I had something that was familiar with a psychosis but with just panic, and it freaked me out. Today I am a lot more calm but it truly never seems to fade. I know I have to be patient but it sure is making it more difficult to work (make money) and do the things you would normaliy do. Thank you for this video. It means a lot!

Thanks so much for this Shaun. Locating this channel has mellowed me so much especially realizing my experiences are not unique to me. My panic attacks started in August following the burglarizing of my family house. Ever since, it has been a roller coaster of symptoms: uneasiness/overwhelming thoughts in morning(that have subsided), fear of becoming insane like my late uncle and other toxic thoughts. But everything became worse a couple days ago i started having a Heightened AWARENESS to COLOUR, SOUNDS AND WORDS-as if I was deconstructing it. When i went to the gym i started having the perception as I was in a simulation, and whether the people were real and the same thing occured when I was on the street and even at home. One of the most unpleasant things I have experienced. I am more confident I will get better thanks to this discovery and the supportive community. God Bless you'll

Hi shaun, I'd just like to say you've helped me through so much of what I'm going through, almost everything is going away and i can feel a change. i am starting to feel normal again. months ago i had crazy thoughts and feelings and i thought this would last forever. but now I'm feeling almost completely normal, with only a few negative feelings remaining. the detachment from reality has mostly went away, and the existential thoughts too. every week I'm feeling better. For anyone else who is reading this, take my word that this does go away, and over time it will fade. keep living normally and start doing more. if you occupy yourself every day the dp will fade away. Pay no attention to it, don't even think about it (that is easier said than done, i know, but once you start occupying yourself these existential thoughts and detachment will go away) as long as you keep on worrying about it, it will stay with you. thank you again shaun, because i genuinely thought this would last forever, but it's almost gone and your advice has made me happier

@@laurenbaldwin6068 Hello Lauren , the only person who can help you go out of your DP/DR is YOU! Believe me , i’ve had it for like 3-4 months or so, i started my recovery after 2 months of DP and i saw the results after one month or so, it’s different for everyone , what you need to do is to allow it existing for the moment , don’t focus of what you feel! It doesn’t mean anything the feeling . You have to know that is not permanent and Believe me , IT’S ABSOLUTLY NOT PERMANENT! But the problem is we don’t see results after a week or two, it will Take longer so arm yourself with patience and don’t check in everyday to see if the feeling is still there... easy said then done , i know. But you must do it. And what really helped me was to think about the condition everytime i was overwhelmed by it , i was thinking like this (is this shit even so scary? What am i feeling ? I am there , i exist , every single person that i know exists, so Why am i so scared about this condition? It will fade away and stop eventually) and so it did, after 2 months , i know it was Aloe but it did. Do what you want to do , what you like to do, and don’t let this meaningless condition stop you from doing anything. Becouse you can do all the things u used to do , and When u realize it the DP will stop, and you are normal! It last only untill your recovery begins. So get to work 🤙🏽

I have depersonalisation also. im 27 years of age and i have been feeling this dreamy feeling since i was 13. It all started when one day i kept asking myself, "is this a dream.?" at first i was saying it in my mind then all of a sudden i said it aloud then i just snapped into this depersonalised feeling like i couldn't shake it off. Long story but to sum it all up lately a couple times i feel this feeling of snapping back into the old way i felt before.

Thanks for your wisdom. I always thought that my intrusive, negative thoughts and catastrophizing was a separate condition causing my anxiety, and I've been trying to figure out how to get free of the feedback loop. My problems went on longer than they should have partially because I didn't understand what was happening, and the classic reported symptoms of anxiety always talk about the physical symptoms (increased heart rate, numbness in body etc......) but hardly ever mention in any useful detail the DP, thoughts and catastrophizing, which can be far worse than the physical symptoms in terms of feedback.
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, thanks for your comment and I'm glad to hear the video was so helpful 😊 I know DP can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

I started with DPDR then read too far into websites and the simulation theories out there. Then it turned into me finding out some people with schizophrenia have similar experiences. Which then turned in to me have a constant fear that I’m going crazy or going to develop schizophrenia or go in to psychosis. That’s the fear I can’t shake. I think about it and ruminate on it all day even when I am reassured it’s not possible.
@kurt7937
@kurt7937 3 жыл бұрын
I used to literally compare how I felt in the moment to how I SHOULD feel at LEAST 1000 times a day. Schizophrenia can easily be accompanied by anxiety, and that’s all DPDR is. Days where I find I’m at my best are days where I don’t constantly think about it and ESPECIALLY compare to how it is or was, how much worse or better it is. It’s not an evil entity inside of you that is slowly trying to get worse and worse, it’s simply anxiety, and when you stop entertaining the idea that it’s anything more than that is when you will start to notice improvements. Think about it like this, if your brain thinks it’s getting worse because of a small change, All you have to do is make a small improvement to tell you and your brain that it’s possible to get better. Once you know it’s possible the scary days don’t seem so bad. Best of luck.

I worry about all types of shit all the time. And it's associated with a weird feeling that I can't shake off and intense fear. Also the feeling that you're gonna go out of control, tinnitus (hearing a loud frequency in my ear all the time) and shortness of breath. And guess what? Yes you're right I'm recovering. One day I didn't fight it, I said ok brain, I'll do what you want me to do. And after some minutes of inner conflict and trying to accept this feeling, I've felt 90% more improved. I had feelings and thoughts about 12 years ago that my brain would just pop up with randomly and I thought something definitely was wrong with me. But here I am 3 months later 80% recovered and thankfull I had this experience, because I always run from my thoughts but this forced me to face them. And after facing them I realized they're not to be taken so seriously and can't do anything to you

My story is a little similar. I've been suffering for 20 years, 21 this February. I only discovered about a week ago that what I've been feeling has a name. I I've thought for 20 years that I basically just didn't come down from a hallucinogenic drug. It's a relief knowing that there are others out there like me and having people to talk to who actually believe me and understand what I'm going through. I try on forums to not tell people how long I've been dealing with this unless they specifically ask because I don't want to scare anyone with my number being 20, almost 21 years. But now I know that it can be treated and that there are doctors out there who will know what I'm talking about instead of calling me a druggie ( which happened at a therapist like 8 years ago which is a big reason why I haven't searched for anyone since) and will actually believe me.

I've had it for 35 years this coming June. Every doctor or therapist I've seen has not known anything about it or how to treat it. I look every few months to see if anyone has anything new to do for it. But mostly stay away from these sights, cause it does make it worse. I didn't understand anxiety and that's what I had. I think if the anxiety was dealt with earlier I could have come out of it sooner. I'm seeing a therapist doing EMDR last few months, seems like it is helping some. When I think about dp, I get really depressed, cause I feel like I'm missing my life. I have bought so many books on how to get over this and do all the stuff with no change. I hope no one else has this happen. Sorry to all who has it. It's only my faith in God that keeps me going, and I just keep doing all the living stuff pretending it's not here. I'm 71 now and retired so have to much time on my hands, so I keep looking for a way to get real again. I did not do drugs to bring this on, we had moved 5 hours away from anyone I knew and my husband was going to college full time and not getting along with anyone.....as unseal. We had a 9 month old and 10 year old and living in a college apartments with partying students. Just to much stress for me I guess. I seemed like on the outside I was dealing with it all fine, but I went into dp/dr and have never came out. Wish someone would have know what this was so I could have gotten help much sooner.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DP can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover 😊 Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Great videos, thank you! I wish these videos had existed 20 years ago ... It’s really hard to say how long depersonalization took. The first few months were the worst. Then I gradually started to trust reality and myself. But the whole process took years, and left its mark on me. Through my obsessive existential thoughts, I found spirituality. It still has a place in my world wiev. Sometimes I wonder what kind of person I would be and how my life would have gone without these experiences.

Two weeks I woke up in the middle of the night and could not explain what was wrong with me - all I could say to my partner was that it felt like my mind was disconnected from my body. I knew I wasn’t crazy but I felt like I was GOING crazy. After two days of lying in bed, terrified of what was happening, I decided to get up and go do something. I started to feel better temporarily until I looked up what this weird sensation could be and saw the terrifying word “Depersonalisation” - I was then pushed back into a state of relentless fear. I felt like a wounded animal on high alert of anything and everything. My sensory overload was too much to handle. I then came across your channel mid-irrational research time. And I watched all your videos. I then decided to take a leap of faith and buy your package deal. I couldn’t phone the doctor as it was a Sunday here, but I felt like I could trust you. The way you described everything felt like you were speaking directly to me. It reduced my fears from 100 to 50 almost instantaneously. I made a promise to myself that when I felt like myself again, I would come on here and leave a comment of gratitude to you and a hopeful comment to anyone coming across your videos in the future who feels uncertain. I can now finally say today with a smile on my face that I feel sane again. Though it’s only been two weeks, it felt like longer as the constant internal battle to actually not battle, is draining. But very worth it. For anyone who is struggling with this journey, try to keep in mind something that helped me when I felt tired of having to constantly calm myself down - this is a better reality check than any to analyse within yourself just how many trivial things in life can build up to make you anxious, and a better lesson than any to prove that you are strong mentally. If you fall during this journey - don’t be discouraged! Just a few days ago I had a panic attack and felt the weird sensations after days of feeling so much better, but I kept in mind that actually, falling down and getting back up no matter how many times is just as good a way to re-train your brain as the good days are. I am still on this journey for a while - as anxiety is something that has been with me since I was a child - I’ve just now come to realise at 23 that I can’t ignore it any longer. But I’m happy that I found these videos and that you created a plan that could help thousands of people get through this battle and come out stronger for it. So thank you so much for this Shaun - I can honestly say that you saved me potentially years of falling down a rabbit hole.

I've been going through this for about a month now and although there's been some ups and downs I'm overall on my way to recovering thanks to you! I was so worried and completely destroyed by this for almost a week straight, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat and would have to force food into my mouth so I didn't starve and I was constantly paranoid and convinced that something terrible had happened, that I was dreaming or that my family was drugging me but when I found your videos I immediately started to calm down and since then I've been recovering (very slowly, but better than it not going away at all). I want to thank you for your videos because I'm now at a point where this doesn't control my life, and although I find it difficult to keep it out of my mind, at the very least I am now able to function properly again! To anyone who is going through this, I promise it gets better! It might be slow and some days it might feel like you've lost weeks of progress but overall it will get better! I've found that it helps to surround yourself with people you love and just be open with them about how you are feeling. If there's one good thing to come out of this its that I've learnt how much I really love my family and that's certainly given me some hope to hold on to during this whole terrifying experience. Thank you for your videos, Shaun! You've truly helped so many people! You will forever be a person that I look up to, and I am so happy that I've found you!

@@dmula3114 I'm still going through it (going through a particularly rough patch of it at the moment) but overall I've been feeling way better! The difference between how I felt back when I originally commented and how I feel now is like night and day. The only reason I would say I haven't recovered yet is because I keep getting stuck on the same thought of DP over and over again, but after rewatching this video again I'm super confident that I'll be able to recover really quickly. I completely forgot what happened in this video and only just realised now I've been doing all the things I'm not supposed to again which has probably slowed down my recovery! But don't worry you will get better! If I can give you some tips I would say this: - As scary as it is, just try to live your life. Go out, have fun with friends and try to enjoy your life again without worrying about DP and I can promise that whatever episode of it you are going through it will just disappear. For me personally, it does come back after a while but I can get rid of it by just going out and accepting the position I'm in. - Try to get as much sleep as possible, eat healthy, and do lots of exercise! It helps so much! - As silly as this sounds, tell your family you love them. Tell everybody how much you care about them. Be positive and safe around others and in return they will do the same for you. This treatment of kindness in return will allow you to feel less stressed and scared. - Final thing, and this is SERIOUS! Stay away from forums! Don't research about DP! I've made the mistake of allowing my anxious thoughts to take over and I always come back to the internet for answers about how and when I'll recover. I'll tell you this right now: The internet will not be able to answer these questions for you. The only thing that anyone can give you as help for recovery is to do exactly what I've said and what Shaun has said. Just accept that this cannot and will not hurt you! I know how scary and annoying it can be but it will not stop you from living your life unless you allow it to. So go out, try your best to find things to distract you, and I promise you will recover! If possible, try get in contact with a psychologist as well! I love you and I'm praying for you that you will recover soon! We've got this just stay strong! And remember! NO MORE GOING TO THE INTERNET FOR ANSWERS!!! YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF JUST TRUST ME!

Hey Sean, I have been experiencing DP for almost a year now and have improved significantly. I seem to have reached a plateau and feel stuck. I think a lot of my issues are stemming from the fact that I got this in the middle of a pandemic that has confined our society and day to day life so much, only making it harder for me to believe in the reality I used to know and love. Your book helped me a lot to propel forward in my journey to recovery, but I am still not quite there. It can be quite terrifying thinking about how it is not gone.

Hey Shaun, I’ve been dealing with this for about 5 weeks and have a question. Obviously one of the biggest things that you need to do to get rid of it is to just keep living and try to forget about it, however it started the very first day of my sophomore year of college. Now basically everything around me (my apartment, my classrooms, the walk to and from campus, the shower, etc.) all make me think of DR, because for most of these places, my only experience with them is seeing them through the lens of DR. Its practically become a habit that every time I leave my house or everytime I enter a classroom or even just get up to make food, the DR always crosses my mind. Like, I could be having a. good day, but the second I walk into the classroom all that anxiety hits and because it’s the only thing I ever think of when I’m in class, it’s extremely hard to get it out of my head. Everything I know here reminds me of it and I don’t know how to just stop thinking about it. I know that it’s just anxiety and I know what I need to do to stop it, but it’s been over a month now and I feel like I’ve made very minimal progress, if any. Im hopeful that if it’s still persisting by the time winter rolls around, going home for a month may ease my worries and help me forget about it, but Im not sure and I’d like to get rid of it beforehand. Do you have any tips in situations like this? Thank you

I feel like I wasn’t feeling out of reality but having thoughts about what is the meaning of life if everything is temporary, what is the meaning of life if you’re not in the present moment etc.. It kind of felt like I was separated by my thoughts but they were still harming me. Like how can I see life differently now that I know this ? Is this depersonalization or something more serious ?
