i played bass for 10 years before starting taking guitar serious, I had a huge problem with bendings because my hands were so used to the big strings that i couldnt control them to bend in tune or to have a smooth vibrato. nevertheless, all the music theory that i learned over the years of playing bass really come in handy when understanding scales, I also can read music sheets and have a really good sense of rhythm

You seem to get that the same things that make bass 'easier' to learn are what make it 'harder' to master. That Meshuggah riff is a perfect example. Sure, there might only be 4 strings, but the added thickness and longer neck make complex lines an absolute workout, and muting and accuracy is even more important when you're playing an octave down.

That's what guitars do because they can go down. Try tuning down to the guitars on a 35" scale 5 string bass and play actual strings. Their bassist didn't tune down until Immutable, where he uses some custom-made super long scale bass with a lowest string gauge of like .150

@@Gliese710_ from premier guitar's rig rundown here on KZbin the tech said Lövgren's basses are tuned to either drop Bb (Bb, F, Bb, Eb, Ab) for his 5 string or Bb standard on his four string. idk if I can link that video here but you can easily find it. If you listen to meshuggah, the bass plays the same notes as the guitars most of the time, in the same register. Granted, it is a bit buried in the mix usually mostly because the guitars are tuned so low (8 strings in f standard mostly)

Yes with the rights strings. As a bassist I find standard tuned baritone easier than a regular scale-length guitar.

Yea, if you can find extra long standard strings, because baritones use pretty thick strings that either won’t get up to standard, or it’ll be incredibly hard to play when you get it up there.

Bass is a much less technically demanding instrument than guitar, piano, or alot of other instruments and much more theoretical/philosophical. That's not to say there isn't plenty of challenging music for it, but it's got 4 strings and you play them one at a time, usually fairly slowly. It really isn't rocket science. The challenge and fun of bass comes from creating that perfect bass line that adds another layer of interest and uplifts the music without overdoing it. The inherent "easiness" of the bass also gives you alot of freedom to develop your own technique and style. Wait until you try fretless bass, you'll never want to go back to frets!
