Thanks so much for this video. Very informative. Learned some information I never heard before about kidney stones. As I've had 4 stones in my lifetime. I'm 43 now and my first one was when I was 19. Painful and scary especially when you don't know what is happening to your body to bring on so much pain and agony! Don't wish that on my greatest enemy! So I empathize with anyone suffering from this. I believe most of mine have been from calcium. The first one was because I was on a milk binge for whatever reason. So since then I have cut back on drinking milk and am careful about eating or drinking items with added calcium. Also avoid drinking too much soda, that can bring on stones as well and also eating too much fast food.My first two passed fairly quickly, within days or a week. However, my third one I eventually had surgery after a few months of it not being expelled. Wasn't technically feeling back or abdomen pain anymore, but the constant pressure to urinate or feeling something was still there. Very annoying, so I opted for lithotripsy. I also had to get a stent in place for a few days or so. Very uncomfortable. I guess I've been prone to them. I tend to get them every 5 years or so. Since the third one I looked up what can you do to treat them naturally. So I take Chanca Piedra and that helps break down stones - kidney and gallbladder stones. I took/take them in pill form, but you can also drink it as a tea. Can be found on Amazon or bought from a health store. My more recent one January 12th, started in my back and started working toward my left side and abdomen (here we go again) sharp pain, nausea and vomiting, dull pain and repeat. Tried to ride it out until the morning, but after throwing up for the 4th time, I couldn't take it anymore and went to the ER. Did a scan and found.a 7mm stone. Was given Flomax, Pain Meds, and Nausea medication. Was advised by the pharm to only take the Hydrocodone for only 4 days even though I had plenty extra. Was told it's not good for the kidneys after that - go figure. Plus don't want to become addicted. Anyway, I only had the Flomax for a week. Can bring on side effects - body aches and constipation for me. Continued to take the Chanca Piedra each day sometimes twice a day. Could see fragments in my urine as days went on. Then sometimes nothing. Just passed the stone tonight! February 4th! Thank God! In closing, drink plenty fluids, lemon water, try and take the Chanca Piedra and just be consistent and patient. Eventually they will pass unless they are that huge, but they should at least diminish in size. Good luck guys! Blessings.

@@VaneezaSaleem-u4s yes, you can actually see the stone sometimes if look in your urine in the toilet bowl. Or sometimes you might miss it or it’s been broken up so much from maybe the meds you take or from drinking so many fluids. It may look like sand or very tiny pebbles. But if a big piece comes out it can actually look like a small gravel piece of stone.

Iam having 3×2mm stone in my right kidney .what it's mean ?iam having a 6mm stone or 3 mm stone ?
@micaela6653 жыл бұрын
@@baraniydharan These are the dimensions of the stone. It measures in your case 6mm diameter one way by 3 mm the other. Our ureters measure approximately 3 mm diameter. So, it's hard & painful to pass a stone larger than the ureter's width. So, they either do a procedure called "lithotripsy" which uses soundwaves to break up the stone so it can pass naturally out as we urinate or they will go up and "grab" the stone and manually pull it out.

I’ve been suffering with kidney stones for about 2 months now. I have 5 stones in my left kidney that vary in sizes. My largest one is 21mm and it sits on my urethra. A stent has been placed over a month ago. My pain is unbearable at times. I’ve lost 50 lbs. I’ve cut out all caffeine potatoes chocolates and more and drink tons of water. I’m tired most of the time due to pain and urinating every 30 minutes to an hour. Now depression has set in. I don’t want to leave the house. I have gone back to the hospital due to pain to get some relief, even if it’s for a little while then back on tramadol again until I can’t take it anymore. ER doctor said it is the largest stone he has seen in his career. I’m just so depressed. Any words of encouragement or advice accepted. Great video.

had a 4mm stone that was near the bladder when I first started having symptoms. Misdiagnosed as appendicitis and underwent emergency appendectomy. The next day the kidney stone pain came for about 5-6 hours accompanied with vomiting (VERY VERY painful the day after abdominal surgery). I was good for about 3 days, then had the pain return for about 41 hours straight before subsiding again. After the 36 hour mark, I just elected to have ureteroscopic surgery. Pain finally subsided a little before my surgery.

How can you tell when your kidney stone is moving ? I have had a kidney stone for several years apparently, been having pain in my lower back, hip and lower left abdomen for about two years, nothing terrible, more niggling than anything else - I went for an ultrasound and was told I have a 4mm stone, but that it is in a certain place in my kidney that means it might never move. However in the last month the pain and a feeling of pressure in my abdomen when I am laid down in bed on a night have gotten worse. I have been drinking dilute lemon juice mixed with apple cider vinegar as I have read in numerous places that these are believed to be effective in gently dissolving stones. Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated : )

I am now been told that the stone is still there stuck in ureter about 3 inches away from the bladder. Damn stone has not moved a millimetre from its location for the last 12 days that's why pain is low level. I was convinced it came out but was wrong. Urologists are too busy due to Covid situation so next appointed available is on 10th Feb. I am now back to drinking extra fluids and doing walking/cycling to help move this stone. The size of stones in x rays can be deceiving, CT scans are probably more accurate. Nonetheless, the 4 mmm stones are probably causing you the problems and the spastic kind of pain which you are experiencing.Continue to hydrate well and the other medications you are on will also play their role in expelling the stone.The pain ultimately as well as stone passage, given our anatomical differences are also different with 2 individuals.I would imagine given that you may have multiple stones that you are experiencing the passage of stones the way you are... i.e multiple waves.Good luck.

I'm female and just went through a whole saga w/these. Went to the ER one night w/a terrible fever (had had small fevers off and on for months but always got over them). Turns out, I had a 24-milimeter stone (that's not a typo) blocking my ureter and a terrible UTI due to the urine storing up and getting infected. (NOW I know that the little trickle of pee I'd had for months was a problem). Had emergency surgery to place a stent in. 3 days in hospital getting IV antibiotics for infection. Got the huge stone out, through my back, in hospital about 1 month later (had to stay the night). Had a 2nd stone, "only" 10 milimeters and it was blasted (another stent for a week). Turns out, I had hyperparathyroidism (causes too much calcium in your blood and urine) and had parathyroidectomy surgery (2 of the 4 removed). So, 4 sugeries in 4 months. Not fun, am very fit and healthy in all other ways. Worst part was the stents and missing so many workouts. Strange thing, I had absolutely no pain from those two huge stones at all. None.

Sorry to hear anout the ordeal, but good to hear everything is good now. Although I've had dozens of kidney stones myself, I never had any larger than 10mm. Only one had to be blasted whilst still in the kidney and 6 or 7 operated through the ureter. The others always managed to pass through either in full or by breaking apart. Unfortunately, I did have the worst pain in my life on multiple occasions with these. The doctors told me that indeed people with much bigger stones usually have less or no pain because you dont actually feel them while they are still inside the kidney. It's only once they start to exit the kidney that the pain begins. Though, after so many kidneys, I can confirm this (have 3 stones in 2 kidneys atm and no pain), by now I can sometimes sense whether something is present.

@@davy9247 Have they not been able to find out what causes them for you? I neglected to say that years ago...about 8 now, I had one random stone (first one) about 3 mm and I passed it and the pain was off the charts! I've had twins (and many other children) and the kidney stone pain was MUCH worse than labor pains. I don't know how you've gone through that more than once. I sure hope they find the cause of yours and wish you all the luck in the world!

@@purselmer5931 No, unfortunately not. I've been like a guinea pig undergoing countless tests in multiple hospitals, but no one managed to find anything. It hasn't been particularly motivating. With this high frequency, you'd expect to at least see some kind of indication of what could be causing this. Anyway, because kidney stones are often compared to child birth, I try to joke it off by saying: "if these stones were babies, I'd have a very big family by now." 😏

I'm on my third round with kidney stones. The first one ( 8mm) had to be removed surgically, ureteroscopy. Second (4mm) passed as I was being CT scanned. The third one (10mm) passed into my bladder where it now rattling around with 11 other stones!!! That's correct, I have twelve stones in my bladder that are 10mm or larger!! I only knew about one as I had been to urgent care two days before for blood in my urine and the diagnosed a large stone (bigger than 10mm). The worst part is having to wait for treatment. The constant urge to urinate is overwhelming. I am up 5-6 times a night and peeing every 20 minutes during the day.

I have a 5mm stone and have been flooding my body with lemon juice and water, 5+ liters a day. I had a constant need to urinate and a CT scan showed it is at the lowest part of the ureter. Is it realistic that just by drinking large amounts of fluids from this stage that it will pass? I was in the ER 2days ago and now all pain has subsided and I do not have the feeling of needing to constantly use the restroom. I am going to diligently keep trying to flush it out. I have had kidney stones in the past but smaller ones no larger than 3mm. Would greatly appreciate your medical opinion.

I am experiencing severe intermittent pain in my lower back, lower abdomen and stomach. At times it is unbearable. There is some relief with a bowel movement but it returns. After a series of GI tests 2 years ago, the doctor indicated that I had a kidney stone. It evidently is trying to move down the Ureter. I saw a medial assistant who tested my urine and found signs of blood. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow. I am drinking copious amounts of water and using heat and ibuprofen for the pain. I cannot sleep and bear much more of the pain. I hope it passes soon.

Really interesting, thank you. Does the pain stay during the whole time frame of waiting for it to pass? I am on Aromase Therapy, after chemo and radiation for breast cancer I read this can cause kidney stones, what is your opinion?
@ThinkYourHealth6 ай бұрын
Kidney stones are not commonly listed as a direct side effect of aromatase inhibitors, there are some potential connections between hormonal therapy and renal issues. One indirect way aromatase inhibitors could potentially contribute to renal stones is through their impact on bone health. These medications can accelerate bone loss, leading to osteoporosis or osteopenia. In some cases, increased bone turnover can release calcium into the bloodstream, which may contribute to the formation of calcium-based kidney stones. In regards to your first question: Once a kidney stone forms, it can remain in the kidney or move down the ureter (the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder). As the stone moves, it may cause varying degrees of pain and discomfort, known as renal colic. If the stone is small enough, it may pass through the urinary tract without causing significant symptoms. However, larger stones or those that become lodged in the urinary tract may cause more severe pain and require medical intervention. In some cases, kidney stones can remain in the kidney for extended periods without causing symptoms. These "silent" stones may be discovered incidentally during imaging studies for other medical conditions. However, if a stone obstructs the flow of urine or causes irritation to the urinary tract lining, it can lead to symptoms such as pain, blood in the urine, and urinary tract infections.

I was in ER 3 days ago with horrible pain, coming in waves, dark urine, such bad pain! I was given blood test, urine test, and a CT scan. Showed several stones in my kidneys. The one causing such pain was in the ureter close to my bladder. I was treated with pain meds and antibiotics. During the last 3 days my pain has diminished. I was referred to a urologist who told me I need invasive surgery. Last night I felt a PING or a POP or a PLOP...something moved downwards. I think its possible that 5.5 stone dropped into my bladder. So now I watch for the stone(s) to come out. If scope/laser surgery is for the stones over 10 why is a 5.5 of such concern? Why wasn't shock wave suggested? I will be getting a ultrasound in a few days to see where the stone is now.

@ThinkYourHealth3 жыл бұрын
Usually you have most of the pain because of distention of your kidney capsule as the kidney is trying to eject the stone.You can have pain also when the stone is passing down or obstructing your ureter. Pain usually also stops once the stone reaches your bladder.Once in your bladder, the kidney stone may pass through the urethra (urinary opening) while you are urinating (which may cause pain to start again). Or, it may break into such small fragments that you don’t notice it passing.

@ThinkYourHealth3 жыл бұрын
If your oxalate content is too high you would need to reduce it. The increased urinary excretion of oxalate results in urinary calcium oxalate supersaturation, which leads to crystal aggregation,and kidney stones Large fluid intake resulting in a high urinary output (greater than 3 L/day per 1.73 m2) is the most effective therapy to decrease tubular fluid oxalate concentration. Avoidance of foods with high oxalate content, such as tea, chocolate, spinach, and rhubarb.Talk to your Doctor or dietician about other foods and dietary needs.There are other modalities such as using inhibitors of calcium oxalate precipitation. You can talk to your primary Doctor or kidney specialist about these modalities.

@lovelyheart71373 жыл бұрын
Yes! Diarrhea and constipation can take place when kidney stones move through your ureter. Even I had two doctors tell me that kidney stones has nothing to do with it, it does. I had a 6mm kidney stone and I didn't have any pain in my back but just mild cramps in my abdomen. But I had cold chills where it felt like I was kinda in shock or something. It made me constipated and then diarrhea. It was SO weird! The doctor put me on tamsulosin and in two weeks I somehow passed it without any pain. Maybe it broken up or turned into sand, idk. I had a ultrasound done last Friday. Today they called me and said that it was gone. All I drank was water, like 8 to 10 bottles a day and started eating healthier. I used a strainer a few times and didn't see anything. So I'm thinking maybe it desiagrated? So, I hope my comment to you helps you a little bit. You'll definitely be in my thoughts and in my prayers. And I wanted to tell someone who is going through this as well. I never had kidney stones before, this was the first time and hopefully the last. Lol 💗

I’ve passed hundreds of stones with my most recent being on May 22 2021. When I was in the military I was part of a trial to prevent stones. I failed big time. Our diets were strictly controlled and we had blood and urine samples taken daily. They even thought I was cheating so they admitted to the hospital to watch everything. I was even given a catheter because I constantly had blood in the urine, they thought I was adding blood afterwards. I was dropped from the study because it was deemed chronic or genetic and I would ruin the results. To the best of my knowledge, even to this day, I’m the only person to be fully medically retired from the military due to stones. I got to 3 gallons of water a day (I was desperate, these things hurt), but I had to back off due to electrolyte issues.

So many questions, so few answers. A CT Scan revealed to the interpreter an 11mm stone in me. Of course I was in great pain. Hours later, the pain was gone. Why? The stone did not exit my urethra. Had the stone been forced from my left kidney and blocked the ureter? Or had it not exited the kidney but just temporarily blocked the port? The large stone cannot pass so where is it stuck? Can Chanca Piedra taken daily eventually dissolve the stone into small pieces that will then pass through and exit?
