Although it's rare, unfortunately some Asylum offices have pending cases filed in 2015 still waiting for an interview.

Hello sir, i filled the I-598 for Asylum and Withholding of Removal this year 2023 on 18 of June and my Receipt notice Came in to my USCIS Account after 3 days and then my Biometric Appointments. And the last notice now is an in-person Interview. So most of us were paroled and Checked in to the United States by the immigration at the boarders Using just our Receipt notice and Biometric Without going through detention. What Should i do next, is it to find an Attorney to proceed my case? Please

for afghan asylum seekers, the process is even more sped up, though were still processing forms from a month prior. Once we actually get to the day that we received the form from you that we are processing it goes straight through to specific people who process OAW cases. Good news is, we don’t reject Afghan asylum seekers for any reason. hopefully that helps, i cant really go into any more detail than that since some of our process procedures are confidential 👍🏽

I need an honest reply.. If someone file asylum today so when he expect his interview? In weeks or months or years? Like approximate time as you said last files comes first so i want to texas current filing procedure timeline as per current situation

Honestly, it could be weeks, months or years. It is impossible to guess if someone will be given an interview. However, for the past few years almost all filings we did, got no interview. That doesn't mean a new filing will not get an interview though.

I filled form I-589 and sent it. I just received a rejection letter saying that I have to submit an affirmative asylum and not a Defense one. What is the different and how do I do affirmative asylum. I did not file a Defensive asylum. Could you please help. Thanks

Hello sir, is the a means you can get a court date ? I did my credible fear while in detention and got a positive credible and left weeks later. But it's been more than a year now and still yet I haven't received a court date yet. How can I do to get that ? Is there a means?

May I know what happens after I send the i-589 package to the USCIS office? So I wait for some kind of confirmation that they have received my application? If yes, how do you call that step? (Receipt I guess?) And after what time can I apply for work permit? Or what is the indicator that I can apply for work permit?

Yes, it is called a receipt. Unfortunately, it's taking USCIS 2 to 3 months to isse the receipt. Date of the receipt will be the the day day received it. 150 days need to pass from that date to apply for the work permit

I am waiting for my receipt notice for I-589. And it's already been 50 days that they have received my package. 3 days ago i Emailed to lockboxsupport because i don't know what else to do.... Feeling half-human without any status....

Hi Lev, unfortunately USCIS bureaucracy can be really frustrating when you anxiously wait for asylum. However you shouldn’t give up, it might be a while but, eventually you’ll have your opportunity to seek asylum

As to the wait times, right now something unprecedented is going on. USCIS changed the location I-589 are initially processed. It used be Vermont for a very long time. In February it changed to California

We think this change is the reason for receipts not being issued. Please rest assured that you are not alone in not getting a receipt. We have I-589 filings from a few months ago, still no receipts. Same situation for other colleagues all around the country

It doesn't look likely, they are preoccupied with Asylum Merits Interviews. You should consider filing a writ of mandamus

yes unfortunately receipts are taking 3 to 4 months but the clock for work authorization runs from the date it was received
