Great catch with the 1823 leading, Love that horn too. Great angles at Marion too. I think the axles should be down in the 400's. Never save to have all roads in a town blocked if they go into emergency. Ambulances couldn't get through. Nice job again Ty

Ive never really thought about how long they should be🤔 But i would say around 80-100 rail cars, Because 100-150 would just be straight up outrageously long. But keep up the great work!!!

How about this for how long trains should be? A train should be no longer than the shortest distance between two consecutive crossings on its route. Yes, I know this wouldn't work, because trains would be far too short, but there must be some happy medium somewhere between too long and too short. Maybe it should be no longer than the shortest distance between the first and last crossings in every town on its route, which should make the train a bit longer than my original idea, but not too long.

Class I Railroads Not Interested in Spending the Money Savied. by Eliminating Crews since PSR. Without Longer Sidings, Crossings continue to be Blocked. 🤪👎

@@kens.3729 yep I’m working on a video I filmed last winter of NS 15q 230 cars long. To long for all the sidings this side of Decatur.

How long should they be....this debate will be going on for some time in the months/years to come. Yes, they can block crossings 2 times the time as a single train. But on the other hand they are coming through town 1/2 as much. Fewer chances of road crossing accidents. Few times throughout the day crossings are blocked at all. For example if you run 4 super-long trains or 8 regular trains...you come thru town half as much. You blow horns half as much. Come through crossings half as much. Just points to think about.

That's today PSR you take those 8 trains down to 4 That's 8 less employees you have to pay to the same amount of freight.
@cdavid8139
@cdavid8139 Күн бұрын
@@stevenbelsky1652 Far more than 8 less employees. In today's union environment crews only operate on certain mileage or between specific stations. So by the time that train reaches final destination it may be far more than 8. Reducing crew costs has been a railroad initiative far far before PSR. Running long trains is not evidence of PSR in itself. You can run long trains with modern technology whether or not you run a scheduled railroad...as BNSF has proven.

@@cdavid8139 *Reducing crew costs has been a railroad initiative far far before PSR* definitely true... but ever since hunter harrison, railroads are now FIXATED on one thing... *OPERATING RATIO* and the lower the better... in the pre PSR days, a number just at or below 80 was seen as pretty good... NS ceo allan shaw in dec 2023 did a bullet point presentation showing NS hit its' target of *60* i'm wondering how LOW are they trying to go
