I have a short draw length. Everything says I should shoot 400 spine arrows but at 70#'s there way to much flex in the arrows so I just go with 340 and the fly great. Appreciate you taking the time to explain this stuff because Im just learning now how to build my arrows.

You're right about arrow length. This applies to the present day bows. However, I am still using my 1995 Hoyt Alfa Tech for hunting occasionally . It has a 3 inch overdraw and my draw length is 28 inches. A 25 to 27 inch arrow suits me fine and I have shot several wild boars within 75 feet distance. No problem at all. A shorter and lighter arrow fly faster.`Thanks for your review.

So on my hunting bow I cut my Easton Axis 1 inch over my draw length even though I use mechanicals. It doesn’t effect spine weight. On my target bow I cut my Pierce 400 arrows 1/2 inch past draw length.

I've heard people say measure the arrow from the end of the nock, to the cut, as well as saying the arrow length is the actual arrow, no nock, no tip. Did I miss your interpretation of arrow length? You talked about what you feel is too short, what about too long? Also a visual of the two different arrow options on your riser would be nice.

Without the nock. That is more or less what he suggests here, but if you want to check you can take an old arrow you already have and pull back in front of mirror or ideally have someone help you to see how far past the shelf your arrow is, and then mark/note where you want it and measure from there, carbon to carbon. Some people will take it clear back to just in front of their rest just make sure any outsert isn't sitting on the rest.

hey this is gonna be a LONG and interesting question but i hope you can get to me i bought my first bow last summer as a beginner bow and have always intended on upgrading eventually but i figured i’d still get a year or 2 more out of it. from the beginning i’ve had problems with my anchor points and my peep was always a little too high and i just dealt with it and ended up killing a deer last year with it but it was not comfortable enough for me to keep it like that. so over the last couple weeks i’ve been upgrading everything on the bow from strings to stabilizers and my buddy who was a former tech at a bow shop help me set it up. and once we started getting to the nose button and peep sight we kept having to bring it down and down and down and down so far down that my spot hogg fast eddie double pin could never go down enough to even reach 50 yards without getting contact with my arrow. i have a Diamond Edge SB-1 and it caps out at 30” draw length and we ended up figuring out my draw length is closer to 31”. do you think that’s the main reason i am having such a problem with my peep sight? because the draw is too short? or is there any other possible reason i’m finding my view of the sight to be so low once i’m anchored in? and since i think i’ll have to get a 31” bow are there any specific bows you recommend for a 31” draw length? i would REALLY appreciate a reply but this question was long so i hope you were able to stick with it and hope i explained clearly 😂

There could be a lot of reasons, but yes, if your draw length is too short you will have to duck/scrunch to get in your peep. Get your draw length dialed first then set your peep when you're in a comfortable anchor

How long should your arrow be? 2 inches longer than your draw length so you can't/won't cut yourself when drawing a broadhead. is my guess. That would also eliminate any excess arrow length. So thank you so very much for these in your videos. I did hear of shooting yourself in the hand with an arrow and I almost sent my bow back because of this. Only when I saw a video on this did I realise it was because of a blatant safety issue that the person ignored. It's things like this that scare people so they don't even try so now I have seen people wearing chest guards, is this another shoot yourself case? Keep your fingers below the shelf on the bow and you have almost no risk of injury. Been shooting 40 years and went through the overdraw craze back in the 80-90's . Don't worry about a broadhead extending into the shelf area because you are still well protected, The overdraw bows would put the broadhead in the area of your wrist.
