How long will a piston last on a Husqvarna fs450 supermoto bike?

we left our 2020 Husqvarna fs450 race school bike as long as we dare before changing the piston and rebuilding the crank. Husqvarna Motorcycles recommended changing a piston at 50 hours and a crank rebuild at 100 hours. we went way past that with the use of some very good engine oil from Putoline oils. Not only was the engine working well, we dyno tested her and were really surprised how much power she still made for such an old piston. It is not a good idea to exceed manufacturers service limits and we did this as an experiment whilst taking great care of the motorcycle. We always recommend servicing bikes in line with oem limits especially under race conditions.

That's amazing, and a true testament of how good these engines and oils are.

Very interesting, looking forward to the next video! I'm also curious what hours intervals you normally use for a B-Kit bike regarding the piston and crank. Just the hours intervals that Husqvarna recommends or do you deviate from those?

i am stripping the engine down as we speak and i will make another video next week once i have had a chance to measure everything. The way i work is that i usually build an engine with new piston at the beginning of the season and just let it run over hours in the off season for training. I find there is no real drop in performance of oem pistons with putoline oils. so 50 to 100 hours on a piston is good and 150 hours on the crank (maybe more if i feel lucky lol)......but it does depend on good maintenance and a nice pilot who is not rev happy lol

How oft on this bike did you change the oil? Recommendation is every 10 hours from Husqvarna, what do you think?
