This video will share valuable data on the longevity of a Toyota Camry. How many miles are on your Camry? Should I buy a cheap Camry? How long will a Camry last?
Have a check engine light? As I mentioned in the video, I started using an engine diagnostic tool called FIXD. You can find the link for the discount here: bit.ly/3a2D12G
Have a car or truck with more than 300,000 miles? I'd love to see it! Email me a pic of the vehicle and odometer at carsthatlast@gmail.com.

I bought a 98 Camry LE (4 cylinder) in 2002. Drove it for 6 years, then gave it to my dad. My wife took it over in 2014 and drove it until 2017 at 243,000 km. We only got rid of it because the strut towers were corroded, and was due for timing belt/brakes/fluid changes/struts. It even looked new when we junked it, I'm sure it was an awesome parts car. Never had any issues with it when we owned it, it was a reliable appliance.

I have heard that many of the older Camry's, before 2002, have driven past 300k on their original automatic transmission, original Toyota alternator, and original AC compressor. Ice cold AC is a common attribute of old Camry's with high miles. My son is very happy with the 2001 Camry LE, 4-cylinder, that he bought last July. He recently took it to my independent mechanic to address some small problems that we already new existed when he bought the car. My mechanic told my son, "That is a good little car you have there." It is a good little car. He bought it for $1,300 cash and has no car loan to pay off. I changed the fluid in the differential and I have drained and filled the ATF twice, since he bought the car. The transmission shifts much smoother after the ATF drain and fills.

@@nandobando5897 If it seems to be running well, I don’t see why you can’t get a lot of life out of it. I just put new 80k tires on mine; I fully expect to get another 100k out of it. Its still running like new. It’s important to change your oil regularly. Take care if it and it will go a long way. Don’t ruin the battery by running the car with an empty gas tank or by letting it sit unused for more than a week or two. Trying to get to the gas station on battery power will ruin it fast! I’m still on my original battery and it’s going strong. If you do end up needing a new battery, don’t go to the dealer. There are plenty of less expensive options who will charge a lot less. My son killed his Prius battery by running it empty. He got a new one for a fraction of the cost. 5 yrs later its still going strong. Good luck and congrats on getting such a great car!

2000 Camry here nearing 400,000 km or 250,000 miles. Picked it up about 5 years ago with about 190,000 mile in a super neglected and unappreciated state for $100 CAD but over the years have fixed it up and its the car that turned me onto Toyota, as a total surprise to me because at the time I only picked it up because why not for that price. I couldn't believe the reliability but after half a decade have come to rely on the car without worry including road trips of several thousand km. Never quits. For the record I'm a mechanic and keep a close watch on her and she's well taken care of now.

My 2000 Camry with The 2.2L Has 439 K miles on the odometer. She still looks and drives like new. I have owned her since October 1999 and have always followed the simple rule given to me by an old Cuban Tech at Sears. He told me the car would last at least a million miles if I just remember that oil is cheap and engines are expensive. He told me that if I never big seated the 5500 - 6000 Mile Interval I shouldn't have any problems other than routine maintenance. Well Since I bought the car when I was a broke college kid in knew that if the car didn't work I wouldn't be able to get to work I vowed to never let the car go more than 5000 miles between oil changes. 21 years later my Camry not only has never had a major engine issue other than the typical 2.2L Issue of its assume they valve cover gasket leaks which Is usually less than a $100 fix And Timing belt/water pump replacements watch is just basic maintenance my car doesn't use or lose a drop of oil between changes. Every 60000 miles I also do a transmission drain and fill S preventative maintenance. It costs about $75 And is probly the reason I'm still driving on the original tranny. And if you think that IM not hard on the car you are dead wrong. I live in Miami Beach and Have to share the roads with fellow kamikaze like Julios So it's definitely not rare for me to stop the accelerator or slam on the brake pedal. It's not rare to find 4th generation camrys with over 500 K miles. My mechanic has 16 customers alone in the Miami area with 2.2L Engines. If you have any doubts whether you should buy a used Camry I urge You to stop and ask the owners of older camrys what their opinions Are about the car. Understand you're gonna get retards that will complain about everything but you should ask them straight up about the long term reliability of their Camry. I once had a conversation with a stupid woman who was telling me that Toyota quality has gone down Hill because she's had to replace the battery twice in 11 years. Understanding that I was speaking to a very stupid woman I asked her how long did she think a battery should last. She pointed out that she owned a 1989 celica that had the original battery almost 20 years. A guy passing by stopped in interjected that he wished he had to only replace the batteries in his 5 year old grand Cherokee. Hes gone through 2 transmissions and Several Very expensive electrical Components. BTW The highest rated battery For my Camry is the die hard gold all Weather At a cost of $89 The last one I bought lasted 7 years.

This story is GREAT! My dad bought a brand new 98 Camry, and it had 400,000kms on the clock when I sold it. It looked and ran like new. He used the cheapest conventional oil the whole time, but he always got it changed on time. Say, did you use conventional or synth?

2007 was the worst year in the camrys Almost 40 year history. The oil consumption issue in the 4 cylinder models Wasn't as widespread as people are led to believe. The problem was that Toyota recommended 8000 - 10000 mile intervals between oil changes Which was a terrible idea. Those 4 cylinder engines Whose owners Who regularly changed their Boil before 6500 miles escaped that trouble. But the 2007 Camry with the V6 Had very high failure rates with the automatic transmission. This was by far the worst year to buy a V6 Camry but Toyota quickly remedied the problem very very early on and later 2007 and 2008 Camry models didn't seem to fail. I got that from Consumer Reports. One of the biggest problems with an older Camry Is that they tend to be so reliable that by the time they've received their 2nd or 3rd owners the owners drive the cars until something actually fails. Many of the issues That end up being fatal for A particular Camry is due to lack of or just plain poor maintenance. The Camry tends to be far too forgiving Before it's too late.

Your channel is great! I have 1 suggestion: When comparing cars, would it be more appropriate between cars of a similar category? For example, I found that around 30% of Camries and Accords for sale on Autotrader under $7,000, have over 200,000 miles, but around 20% for Civics and Corollas. I bet it’s because the smaller cars costed less initially thus were the first to dip under $7,000, even with lower miles; I can’t see why it would be due to a vast reliability difference.

2011 Camry 190,348 miles currently. Runs well. Changed struts at 170K and water pump at 185K just to be changing it. It was not leaking and bearings felt good. PM is all. I put 93 miles a day on this vehicle and it has been wonderful. Change transmission fluid regularly along with PS, Brake and of course oil. Changed O2 sensors at 77K and probably due soon. On 3rd set of plugs. Only failure that I can say was a fluke was a bad rear driver side wheel bearing at 160K. I put a Timken on it. Probably will go 300K I will save it for my son next year when I get a new car. Bought it with 13,280 on it.

I had a 1989 Camry when I was in my 20s that I completely abused, and neglected routine maintenance. I ended the car's life by bringing it to a junk yard with about 215,000 or 220,000 miles on it. I have always regretted doing this. The problems the car had at that point were really just cosmetic issues. I'm now positive that I could have gotten it over 300,000 had I held on to it and started taking better care of it. I really regret junking it. It was an excellent car that deserved a better owner.

Can't think of a more boring vehicle than the Ford Taurus, unless you get the SHO, but still a boring design. I have the FixD and use it all the time with my older vehicles (08 Honda Civic, 07 Subaru Impreza), very handy!

I have 2. A 2007 LE and a 2010 LE. The 07 has 250,543 miles and the 10 has 110,265 miles. Yes the 07 burns some oil. About a quart every 3,000 miles. I paid $1500 for the 07 and 5 grand for the 10.

It looks like you've stopped doing videos but if anyone reads this or if you start again please know that an owners personal situation strongly dictates whether a car gets to a high mileage point or not. For instance, you often see large SUV's of all types with 200,00 plus thousand miles on them in part because the person has a big family and a low budget. So they bought used and were forced to make it last. If something simple like a window actuator fails a couple of times in a medium to high income owners car they get rid of the thing. For a low income person that's not an option. They either live with it or figure out how to fix it themselves. Many commercially used trucks and vans acquire most of their mileage fairly quickly then get sold off with the third or fourth owner ending up doing most of the repairs whereas the original owner had routine maintenance done as part of their fleet but few if any repairs. And it's often impossible for you or anyone else to know just how much money was spent on maintenance and repairs to get a vehicle to last 300,000 plus thousand miles. I have a friend with a 2003 Toyota Sequoia that has 389,000 miles on it. But with 3 timing belt, water pump and thermostat changes as well as 4 sets of ball joints all of which were required as part of the original design or an original design flaw in the case of the lower ball joints that's more that $4000 in required maintenance. Add in a new starter and a cracked exhaust manifold as well as a passenger side rear spring mount repair and endless rust proofing and he's into the thing for almost 8 grand for repairs and a level of maintenance not required on other cars to get to that mileage. With $8,000 to spend on excess maintenance and repairs a endless variety of cars can reach 389,000 miles. That's not to crap on the original Sequoia it's just to illustrate that even in the absence of situational need, one's willingness to keep fixing things can be as much a part of a vehicle reaching high mileage as pure reliability.

I am sure there are A LOT more newer Camrys with over 200,000 miles. I have had mine '12 LE for 14 months (zero issues)127k to 142k and I have seen 4 cylinders go 300,000 miles so a 4 or 6 cylinders don't really matter if it's taken care of it will last. It don't get the advertised gas mileage (23mpg) city. even being driven easy.
