About services - you do not need to disable the ones with Manual startup type - those aren't active by default, which you can check yourself in Status column, so disabling them won't do anything.

You click on Settings, and it takes five minutes for the app to open on the desktop? Really now. How old is your PC? You made 3-4 OS upgrades on it I bet. Did you do a clean install to get to Windows 11? Does your PC have an SSD drive and at least 8GB RAM? This isn't limited to Windows 11. I've done this on 10 and its worked wonders, far better than when i used this same tutorial for my windows 11 (on the same pc). To Mr. Singh, I'm confused. Your PC seemed to be working very fast as you're clicking through all the things you're saying should be reconfigured or disabled. So, you went from fast to FAST? From the eye test, I didn't see much of a measurable difference in the performance of your desktop. Maybe if users would stop trying to upgrade 5 to 10 year-old PCs with a new generation OS, there would be less complaints. And just because MS says you can upgrade your existing PC, doesn't mean you should. Actually, the dirty little secret is that MS really wants users to buy new equipment. The OEMs built their new PCs optimized for Windows 11. All the reported "slowness" probably won't be seen on these systems. Note, I said OEMs not the PC built by the so-called home PC engineers putting PC togethers from parts not tested together. And attempts to upgrade laptops would be worst. For example, I did an upgrade of my Dell Vostro 1000 (shipped with Windows 98) to Windows 7 Pro. It was good, but it took a small performance hit. Then I tried Windows 10 Pro. Bad idea. Installed, but everything was slow. Should I have jumped on a soapbox to complain about the OS? No. So, I gave up the cash and bought a Dell Inspiron 13-5368 (shipped with Windows 10). No complaints. PCs are like automobiles. You should buy a new one every 5 to 7 years. Fact....

It made my PC snappy. These tips will efficiently improve the performance of old computers running HDD. If you have newer hardware with NVMe SSD, then it won't make much difference, but it will feel faster since we disabled animations and effects. You are absolutely correct; OEMs are optimized for the installed OS. It can easily run the next version of the OS, but not all upcoming versions. New OS comes with new features and more files, so it is not advised to upgrade 6-7 year old laptops to the latest OS. It is the same with Android devices; if you keep updating the OS, it will run slowly in 3-4 years due to new features and files.

I like the Windows 11 interface, but on a brand new HP Elitebook, it just ran so slow compared to my 7 year old Dell machine running Windows 10. Anyways, after performing these steps my CPU went from always hovering between 95 to 100% down to 25 to 35% usage. My only issue is loading images taken from my camera but stored in folders on my computer - that is still slow. It just takes awhile for Windows File Explorer to show the thumbnails. I did find one fix, which is to hit F11(full screen) when you open the folder. This does seem to 'kick' it, but an annoying step for something my old laptop just handled easily.
