I have tried most of the tweaks others have come up with and none have worked for me, but this is the solution I so desperately needed. If your computer is slow, it is because the boot drive is almost full. Disk cleanup can help you a bit. That's all you can do.

i was following along as the video went, and I clead the Prefetch as it said to. then, my PC turned itself off, like something was wrong. i anxisouly waited for it to turn back on, and expected a bluescreen or something along those lines. when it turned back on the windows 11 startup sound played and my home screen was normal. i opened the Task Manager to check my cached RAM, and when I did I found that 2.5GB of RAM had been freed up. Moral of the story: Dont mindlessly follow videos. Great video and easy to follow though! (Maybe a bit too easy...)

It's not a good idea to empty prefetch. It actually slows down your computer until Windows reloads it. It would only make sense if your "C" drive is tiny, and needs the space.

The only thing I'd say it's not necessary, deleting the prefetch folder will actually make programs take longer to load, because the prefetch files are gone. Temp files are okay to get rid of, but usually your PC will do an automatic clean up from time to time

0:21 No point doing this. Prefetch files help reduce the OS's startup time, deleting them might make your system slower when booting up. Some apps may also take longer to load. Windows will create the files when you open the apps next time anyway.

The 'prefetch' files literally exist to help apps load faster thus potentially speeding up your computer including startup. If you delete them, Windows will just make more of them. Why delete them? Your comp would probably slow down instead of speed up. As I understand it, they aren't 'junks' they are there for a purpose, so I'm confused by this video.

None of these things will have any effect at all your PC's performance. As soon as you remove all that stuff, it'll just be back in a few days, if not sooner. To ACTUALLY speed up your PC, you need to control which applications are loading with windows, get rid of anything you don't use, and above all, change your slow mechanical hard drive to an SSD. and if you can, to an m.2 nvme drive. This is far away the best thing you can do for speed.

I'm always skeptical of videos purporting to help users with computer issues. And yours was no exception. It wasn't until I read further down in the comments that it really did work. So I thought, I have a backup so why not? So I went ahead and tried your solution. Well to sum up my experience, it really did work.
