A VCR is one thing, check out those butchers at John Deere. My idiot sibling has a German car, open the hood and there's another hood and no dipstick!

Most people are stealing right at the register by skip scanning. They pretend to scan an item and just stick it in the bag. Sometimes people also legitimately and accidentally skip an item.

There are websites where you can print barcodes. A can of cat food is the same shape & weight as crab meat, get a glue stick and you're all set scale or no scale.

Retail theft isn’t a result of a bad job market, desperation or inflation. Theft, just like any other brazen crime is a result of a total lack and disregard for the law! If you’re a person that cares about something (namely your future) in 2024 you’re a rare breed as many people have checked out and stopped caring, do your shopping online and limit your interactions with the majority of people, lawlessness is only getting worse….

Last year we literally had a Dollar Store Christmas. My wife always wanted a Maserati, she was quite happy to get a plastic one no bigger than your thumb. I'm 67 and got a used Tonka truck.

NO WAY, bro!! I love our highways - even with the heavy traffic. I love flying down the road 75 mph (and getting passed by people doin' 80). I love my cell phone that stores all the numbers of friends and family, and I can talk to them at the touch of a button. I WOULD like to own my house, have a garden, and eat fresh vegetables and maybe even raise chickens for eggs, but the competition from sources, inside and outside the US, is just too strong. They can raise chickens and eggs so cheaply that, if I did it, it would cost 5 to 10 times as much. I love low price tools, and gasoline, and milk, and who knows what all else. If the Chinese want to work for nothing let them. If Vietnamese quality is better than ours, put some union laborers out of work ( they are spoiled. careless, lazy people anyway ). Come on, Edward, if WE want to do better, we have to do better. We can't let others do all our work and expect to have JOBS. Quality and price matter, even in our accursed GOVERNMENT.

I'm not condoning it but recently I've seen firsthand someone arrested for stealing Ichiban soup from the Dollar store. That's not greed, it's simple hunger and that's very sad. There's also people who have no idea of the cost of raising children or how to say "No". I never screamed and yelled for the latest toy, maybe that's a generalization thing. Then there's food. I've only seen it once in 67 years but a clerk once confided to me a senior was eating cat food in place of tuna. We live in an upper middle class small city where poverty is simply denied. No bus service to the one pathetic food bank. How much pasta and peanut butter can one person eat? Much of Toronto's homeless population lives under the raised freeway. Yes they can work the system (free lunches etc at churches) but getting there is a $7 transit fare. As for stealing baubles and trinkets I feel no pity. Some of this lies with food retailers gouging us for things like rice and bread, the "food of the poor". That's a crime.
