So here we are, after what was essentially an excuse to do a bunch of small box game reviews in a single video. Not much more to say other than, don't let the size of a game box fool you. Some of these games pack a ton of skill and depth into them. Big is not always better, that's for sure. Anyway, let me know some of your favourite small box games that i can try out.
@DanielGarciaGrandesАй бұрын
A Spanish board game youtuber couple has been creating these type of videos each summer for the last years. They try to pack as many games, covering as many gaming categories, into a backpack for the holidays, and that's how I found out about some absolute gems that come in really tiny boxes. There's some overlap with those lists, but I've still found some games through you that I now NEED to try. And yes, I own Buttons & Bugs and it is incredible how much game they could pack in that box
@3MBGАй бұрын
Ha! Well rest assured I did not see their video but I'm not surprised, it seems like a logical enough thing to do.

Cheers. Being from New Zealand and never engaging with anyone from any other channel in person, i tend to have the space to come up with my own reckons a fair bit. Less of an echo chamber down here away from all the convention scene.

Love that Regicide is in there. Also love Mint Works, good on you for those. I would have had maybe a couple more Buttonshy Games, as there are many great ones! Finally, track down a Japanese copy of Last Penguin and thank me later - it's Twister with bluffing, for your hands.

I often have For Sale and Animal upon Animal Small and Yet Great, and a few Buttonshys or Similo. Sea Salt and Paper is also cute.

Gold Panners is a new game for a standard deck of cards. It's easy to play, but a little more complex than Rummy, especially with the variants.

"Skull" is probably the most "game" with the fewest rules! Easy to teach and always a hit! "Frenzy" is a stone cold classic! It's a great filler game for a 2- player game night, and it plays lightning fast! "Cthulhu Dice" is criminally underrated and a perfect opener for Eldritch Horror! "Zombie Dice"! I keep burying it, but it keeps reanimating back to the table every once in a while!

Great video. Small games are sooooo underrated, and there are so many that when I see videos like this, I always find a few new ones to pick up. A few others that we love and keep on playing: 1. Silver and Gold 2. For Sale 3. Mountain Goats 4. Pass the Pigs (fight me on this one if you must, but I will have my Pigs)
@3MBGАй бұрын
I think i played pass the pigs 20 years ago or more. I can't recall anything about it.
@tommyhinzo7Ай бұрын
@3MBG It's about a 5-10 minute game. Great for passing the time and when you're up for a little game of chance. Roll the Pigs, score points based upon how they land (trotter, leaning jowler, oinker, and other ridiculous names), bank your points and pass the Pigs, or keep rolling until you win or crap out. We pull them out on trips, in coffee shops, etc. We make it a habit to play a game on vacation and take pictures of the Pigs in places like Times Square, the Grand Canyon, and Miami Beach. The Pigs seem to enjoy it.

Great list, I love many of those and there are several I need to try out sometime. A few that would make my list: Skull: dead simple, plays well with a wide variety of people. Can be very funny. Coup: also very simple to learn. A little thinkier than Skull and involves a lot of bluffing. Glory to Rome: on the complete other end of the scale. Very heavy for a card game, can take a while to learn and to play. Also very hard to get a copy of unless you print your own. Worth it though, such a great tableau/engine builder.

Surprised you didn't feature one of the Tiny Epic Games (favourite is Galaxies), Bohnanza or Zuuli/Moving Wild. An alternative to Bananagrams that we take is Wibbell++ and one that will once it is released that will go with us all the time will be Sakana Stack.

I don't. Doing so utterly ruins your you tube stats. I'd rather people not watch than skip to see each heading and then skip forward, watching 5% of the video and tanking it. Which is what happens when people add chaptering. Don't blame me either, blame you tube for punishing people for doing that.

Bananagrams does allow players to address that annoyance of Scrabble, where too many tiny words make it difficult to do anything meaningful, though it's still very easy to do so, but that's on us if it happens. I've also enjoyed playing it with the real-time element dialled back, e.g. with people unused to / nervous about gaming, or for whom english isn't their first language. It allows them to have fun with words, without feeling intimidated. Cockroacjh poker has long been an end of evening staple in our gaming group, and on one memorable occasion we invited a random stranger to join us. He looked/dressed like Richard O'Brien, and was a few beers into the evening. Not a gamer, but we explained the rules and then proceeded to target each other until he grasped the flow, and then brought him into it. He loved it, and the overall experience, to the point he was waxing lyrical about it to the bar staff downstairs afterwards. One of those moments where it just felt like we did the right thing and all got enjoyment. Re:Sprawlopolis, there are some other good ones in the series, from ancient realms (solo) to circle the wagons (2 player, but with a multiplayer version imminent). Scout also very popular with our group, and another it's possible to teach to non-gamers, especially if they're used to Rummy. The odd aspect of the game is the game length - super short for 3 players, rather long for 5, partly due to the # of rounds being = the number of players, but also winning by going round the table much harder at 5. Deep Sea adventure / Dungeons of mandom (push your luck), dropolter / rafter 5 / viking seesaw (dexterity) are similarly sized and a lot of fun. 6 nimmt, heckmeck, no thanks all fantastic for non-gamers (but fun for us as well). I guess that's a useful aspect of approachable small box games, that it enables opportunities to drag a box out of a pocket should a situation arise and there's interest from non-gamers to play. Mint works I agree is good - more of a gamer's game in a massively condensed form. I like the clever use of money = workers, and it works so well in keeping the game tiny. One more, but tough to get hold of in the UK, so a huge challenge in NZ: Push It! 4 pairs of chunky wooden pucks, plus a similarly chunky 'jack'. It's essentially lawn bowls in rules, with the pucks being struck by the players (however they like). It's intended as a pub game, that can even be played on the small round tables often found in pubs, and with a wonderful rule, that if any puck hits an object on the table (glass, phone, etc), then that object must stay in place for the round.
