Thanks for sharing these books with us. Your words, images and music make for a very pleasant viewing experience. I’ve read Luster and very much enjoyed it. Books where I am conflicted about the protagonist can make me uneasy, but I never doubted that she would find her way. She just didn’t choose the easy path. I loved her identity as an artist 🎨 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Looking forward to reading about Clover and her regrets.

I can totally relate to not wanting to know the exact amount of books you haven't read. I was going through my shelves not so long ago and saying read or did not read for every book. The ratio frightened me. Also I bought another book yesterday. And now you're making me want to read more, especially the first and last one, they seem more up my alley than Luster. 💀

📚📚📚🕍 I have a large pile of books to read and could potentially get a little higher because your take on the first book, especially, has me wanting to purchase, or at least go to the library and borrow before going to a book in my pile. Thank you for your honest assessment of these three books. I appreciate your opinions. Keep going, though while you have a good momentum started. 💚💚💚

This is so true, I used to buy 2 or 3 books at a time and then to read other books because my mood or vibe changed and after some time it feels like the books i bought aren't gonna be interesting and tackling them feels like a task. When I do get to read them, my reaction is either - OMG this was so good how did I never read it? or - This was so bad I don't like it at all. It's never in the middle. That's why I started to buy one book at a time by mood and not buying a bunch of books at once but I learned it the hard way because buying books and reading books are two different hobbies 😂❤
@PlantBasedBride
@PlantBasedBride Жыл бұрын
Haha that last sentence is so true 😅 I’m definitely a mood reader and probably start 5+ books each month that I put “on hold” as I put it when I realize I’m not in the mood for it. They’re not officially DNFs (though sometimes with time I realize I don’t even want to get back to them and will officially move on) but sometimes it’s frustrating to have to search for what I’m in the mood for all the time 😂

I lost my dad in September 2020, and there have been many books recommended to me about processing grief, and I've just been so scared to read them ever since. I was so excited to see your first book choice! I just read The Collected Regrets of Clover last month (got a free copy from the author's marketing blast) and I really loved it. 📚🐺 Great video! I'm intrigued by the first book but I've experienced two major losses a bit too recently and don't think I'm in a place yet for the book, however I think it'll probably be very cathartic in a few months, so I'm going to add it to my wishlist for future reference! My reading goal for 2023 is to really tackle my tbr both physical and ebook, and I'm having rather mixed results so far - I've been finding that on my kindle particularly, the books I was buying in a frenzy in 2012 when I first got my kindle are really not much what I'm in the mood for nowadays, and I'm getting lots of 3 star middle of the road reading experiences this year because of it! Physical books have been a bit better, but a lot of them are BIG (which is why I've put them off so long) which means I am not getting through them as quick as I wanted. But overall I am still glad to be making a dent in the intimidating piles so I will continue (though I do still allow myself a few newer and more enticing reads sprinkled in).

I’m sorry for your losses ❤️ it might be too much now but I agree that you might find it comforting after some time. It sucks to realize we put off a read long enough for it to not be to our taste anymore. I hate when that happens!

Hi! I’m a new to your channel and enjoying it so much. As you read and annotate, do you feel like annotating sometimes gets in the way or slows you down while you read? How do you keep up your reading pace while annotating? Do you flag things and then go back and highlight? Or do you wait for a natural pause or do you wait until the end of the chapter?
@PlantBasedBride
@PlantBasedBride 10 ай бұрын
It really depends on each reading experience! If I’m really getting carried away by a book I’ll tend to annotate less, unless something really tickles my brain and I feel the need to expound on it. Most books have more annotations in the first half than the second half and I’m ok with that!
@KanguroJoey
@KanguroJoey 10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for responding. Annotating in the first half, has been my experience as well. I like that you are content with this because I have been so hard on myself for not following through. I’m currently reading, “Trust” by Hernan Diaz. The writing is richly dense with excellent and powerful word choice and I think I need to be okay with this one taking me much longer to finish because I want to get as much out of it as possible.

@Plant Based Bride I think you wouldn't enjoy the romance in the story. It kind of gives me Crescent City vibes a little. It also reads young. I could be wrong, though, if it sounds like something you'd want to try. I'd happily be wrong if you liked it. While I had a fun time reading it, my favorite part was the dragon bonds. I'd read it just for them.

To be honest I usually do not trust five star-reviews of short story bundles for the exact reason you mention: I have never encountered one where I love all stories enough to warrant the whole bundle getting five stars - there are usually one or two at least that are less amazing. So I always look at how many three- and four star reviews there are, because those tend to mean there are a couple of great stories in there.
@PlantBasedBride
@PlantBasedBride Жыл бұрын
That makes sense! I’ve definitely read a few that I felt deserved 5 stars as a whole (Marjorie Liu’s The Tangleroot Palace comes to mind) even if I wouldn’t give each individual story 5 stars. Sometimes the overwhelming impression of the collection is so good that I just have to give it top marks 🥰

I don't think you have read Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss- but it is one of my favorite books (I'm also the human that posted about Priory of the Orange tree for several years- so I feel like you can trust me 😉). Upon further stalking- it is on your want to read. ANYWAY When the 3rd book comes out, I will be taking two days off of work to binge read the book. Before age 30, I thought I could take one day off... but I feel you. I cant. I'll need two days. Also- side note, the prequal to Priory of the Orange tree is out, and it is not as grabbing as the first but with how much you enjoy characters and world building I think you will enjoy it even more.

I'm adding The Bloody Chamber to my tbr. Does that defeat the purpose of this project? 🤔

What do you mark in rhe book?

It depends on the book! I make a little key for the different colours of tabs and highlight/underline things that jump out at me. I usually have tabs for quotes, worldbuilding/plot, character development, and the major themes! I just posted a picture on Instagram last night that shows a tab key from a recent read if that helps ❤️ I’m planning on making an annotation video soon!

Make it a challenge/marathon! Maybe break down your project into equal chunks and challenge yourself to finish one chunk a day, or as many as you can in __ hours, or something? I sometimes need a gimmick or a steak to keep me motivated on longer term tasks ❤️

Oof! Two stars for two of my favourite short stories of all time - but I read them in other collections of various authors, when I was a teenage romantic, so that could have been a factor. It’s true, “The Bloody Chamber” is such a banger that it ruins you for most gothic short fiction. I need to reread that whole collection, it’s one of the books that I always keep around. Would love to read Clover now as you made it sound so good, and although Luster doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, the premise and main character sound very worth the read. 🍀🩸

Oh no 😳 I would love to hear what you love about them! I really do feel reading them right after The Bloody Chamber coloured my feelings. I’ve been thinking of returning to all of the stories after a while individually to get a better feel for them ❤️
