In the eastern USA, you could drive in 12 eastern states on 1 tank of fuel in a diesel or hybrid car if a range of about the same 550 miles. (Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia). I do believe with a slightly newer diesel VW version of your model and some hyperlinking, records of about 1,600 miles have been done on 1 factory tank of diesel in Europe and the USA.

Straight from the underground parking lot to your stereo, this is Block of Brie in the Door Card! Known for their genre-blending mix of greasy garage rock, melted synth-pop, and drive-thru jazz-fusion, they’re back with their latest sonic masterpiece-Melted Expectations! From the funky ignition of ‘Ignition Funk’ to the existential highway anthem ‘Meltdown on the Highway,’ this album is packed with the kind of late-night, fast-food-wrapped chaos that only Block of Brie can deliver. Buckle up and roll down the windows, because Melted Expectations is about to take you on a ride you can't unsmell!

Great choice of car for this! In 2023 I did a roadtrip in 1000€ cars with two friends, one of them bought a similar VW Passat 1.9 TDI - it barely used 5l/100 km and had such a big tank that it could easily do over 1000 km without filling up. Meanwhile my thirsty Volvo V40 and my other friend's small Fiat needed at least twice as many stops, whereas the Passat outright skipped refueling in several countries in a row 😂

Looking at distances, the shortest way to get to Liechtenstein and across the border to Austria (Feldkirch?) would be another 130km/80 miles - too far if they had only another 45-50 miles max. I think it's only possible if the stop to Aardenburg is omitted - and you skip Bruges but go through Lille / Mons. 8 countries & 970 km / 600 miles.

You lucky chaps got to try Luxembourg’s finest delicatesse, and the thing I miss the most about Luxembourg now that I live in the UK. It’s not Luxlait, that’s the brand, it’s Kachkéis, which is melted/cooked cheese. Whack it on some bread, some of us like adding some Luxembourgish mustard first. Definitely didn’t expect to see this obscure cheese on KZbin tonight! Me and a friend went for a road trip in a 2014 Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDi. We drove from London to Germany on the same tank of diesel before the first *_"you know what?? We should really THINK ABOUT FILLING UP"_* was even uttered. It was so long ago that I cant remember the actual milage but we had done at least 600-700miles before we filled up. We could have gotten another 200miles out of it before filling up I reckon but we didnt want to take the chance and get left stranded. We had that thing red lining down the autobahn at one point. We were drafting a car in front and we hit the limiter on the Octavia. The car just couldnt go any faster than 180-190km/h. The car we were drafting just kept pulling away and left us in the dust which was absolutely mental 😅😅 It was a rental car though so we didnt absolutely rag the shit out of it on the autobahn. We pushed the car to its limit once or twice for fun then the rest was about getting from A to B in a respectable time.

I had a 2004 1.9dci laguna estate, and if you kept to 70mph on thf motoway you could get 1100 miles out of that tank. Toured all over europ in that and you could fit a double air bed in the back off it for emergency digs. Crate of beer and a disposable bbq is all you needed. 65mpg motorway miles and a 75litre tank, 77 if you brim it. Thats north wales to Nice on one tank. Given ive got a heavy foot i never got Nice in one tank. But i know it was definitely possible if i would have tried. It used to sip juice on a long run. This is how i dont get that the 3004-15 era diesels arnt as clean as the 1 litre 3 cylinders that get about 27mpg on thr motorway. And less round town as you're always ringing them out. A 2l diesel hardly needs to ever break a sweat. You could drive that car from a stand still into 5th gear without needing to tough the accelerator. We may all love v12, 10, 8 etc... but we peaked with the 2l diesel form around 04-diesel-gate. From thr same engine, you could get a 110bhp eco box, still with plenty of torque, or all the way to silly rolling coal numbers.

After watching this and "How Far Can We Walk in 24 Hours", I had a thought you should do a public transport related challenge maybe? Either how far in x hours (days?? If Including overnight transport!), or how far until someone falls asleep, how far in a direction (NSEW) in X time... etc. Just an idea 😊

Cool video. You might have actually had chance to get into lichtenstein, I remember a video on the old channel you used to work at Alex got 99 miles from an "empty" tank on a Honda Accord so you might have had a chance.

Thanks for the laughs. That thing just doesn't stop! Great idea. My Ridgeline gets maybe 300 miles per tank. But I'm sure its much more luxurious than your Skoda. It's pretty quick 0-60 in under 7 seconds. Drifts pretty good in dirt and even on the street with iVTM4 intelligent torque vectoring. But it doesn't get over 500 miles on 1 tank. That's special. BTW, that city in Netherlands was creepy! Reminded me of an old Star Trek were everyone was all calm and nice. (at first)

I feel like this needs to become some kind of competition with who could make the best sandwich with one item from each country using only a tank of gas.

That was really fun, actually reminded of why i get annoyed i don't live in mainland Europe as can literally travel anywhere by car so easily. You guys should do more challenges like this!

Totally got me reminiscing of the Top Gear challenge from season 12 where they raced from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank. Good stuff

I was on Google maps plotting my own course for this challenge 😄 Need just over 1000km range to get 9 countries, and closer to 1200km to reach 10. Best fuel economy car I've driven is the Golf TDI 110 from ~2016, they easily do ~3,4L/100km (80-85 MPG (UK)) at 110km/h (~70mph) and has a 50L (11 UK Gallons) tank. If you hypermile one of those, passing over the alps into Italy shouldn't be an issue after visiting Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein!

I did 4 going on holiday. I got from Portsmouth to Port Zelande Center Parcs in the Netherlands and back on 1 tank of diesel in my 2019 Kia proceed. That was with 2 adults, 2 kids and a boot crammed with stuff and doing 80-90 on the motorway through France & Belgium. The Netherlands was mostly single carriageway at 50 mph with a million roundabouts to navigate (they love a roundabout more than us brits o swear) which would've helped fuel economy.

We just maintain speed on the roundabouts when its dead on the roads haha. You can drive straight over most ones, except the double or triple lane roundabouts
