A better test would have been to have halves of a 3.8% beer and measure after each half. If you're drinking before driving you're gonna go for low percentage

Interesting Video. I bought a similar gadget for our Belgium road trip last summer. We were not drink driving but like you curious about our levels the morning after. Especially considering their 0.5 limits. We took it out in the evenings for a bit of fun whilst having a meal and of course beers. I was amazed at how quickly those levels were breached even when you actually felt quite fine. Over their I won't even risk a drink and drive you just never know how your system is coping. Annoying at times especially when at the Westmalle Cafe last year and I was keen to try the Triptrap. Luckily the misses normally drives but on that day it was my time at the wheel.

Good video and one of the few beer review channels to address this topic, it's all about being responsible and sensible. I personally think and have done so for some time now that we over here in the UK should by law be required to carry in a car or any motor vehicle a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, breathalyser, warning triangle etc, would make sense to have one of the continental motorist kits always in your boot or somewhere accessable in your car/vehicle. I personally have a Police grade Lion 500 Alcolmeter® as used by police forces in West Sussex that I keep in the glove box, a great tool to use as a guide along with common sense.

You should wait 20 minutes after a drink before testing as the police would always ask you if you had one in the last 20 minutes if you have they wait and then test you. Apologies if you did this but I think this video highlights that one pint could take you very close to the limit especially if you have had no food with it. Those who have 2 pints will surely always be over the limit. My feeling is the drink-drive limit should be 0 as most people make an honest mistake.

Bit of misinformation here. A breathalyser measures micrograms in breath not Blood Alcohol content. The limit for breath is 35micrograms of alcoholic per 100 millilitres of breath. So you were at 20 after 1 and over after 2 beers.

Would you say its safe to say anything after 16 abv you would blow 9%? For instance if I've drank 2 500mls of 8.2 alcohol volume is equal to 16.4 I would most likely blow 9?

Women process alcohol differently to men and affected by it more acutely, unless your friend is over 150 lbs it isn’t surprising that 1 pint took her over the limit. There are lots of other factors that go into alcohol ingestion: height and weight, gender, metabolism (which is very hard to know), age and liver function. Unless you were in the car with her when she was breathalysed it is also possible that she lied about how much she had had to drink, lots of people try to pass of drink driving convictions as an “unlucky incident” rather than wilful negligence. I wouldn’t take this video as a copy and paste template for everyone which the guy should have said as a disclaimer multiple times. Those breathalysers you can buy on the internet are notoriously inaccurate and still aren’t a good reading of blood alcohol content; just take a look at the reviews, people saying they drank 5 pints and getting readings of 0.

I have a problem with alcohol always have, but using one of breathalyzers best one I've had after loosening my license and driving job. UK rules Dec 2023 0.8 mg. A 5% pint WILL PUT U OVER HE LIMITE ;) Not worth the risk personally. Just saying. I'm one. Who just cant ave one. Take care Happy Christmas.

Good content but for the ABV maths you should have just averaged the 3. It is then a case of how much you have drank at that average ABV (e.g 3 cans at average 5.8%), although the reference to carlsberg was probably not wrong mate lol

They've scrapped the need to carry a breathalyser kit in France now. And I wouldn't want it here too. And I'd doubt it's mainly the older people drink driving, there's loads of drug driving too, I've known professional drivers that drink drive, they learn to hide it, they love drinking so much that it's very costly and time consuming to get taxis everyday. It's their way of thinking that it'll never happen to them. I'd never get in a vehicle with a drink driver, even if it's just 1 can of beer, it's still drink driving.
