How Many Fireplaces are there in our English Manor House? - Behind the Scenes at Mapperton Ep 27

So many of you have asked how many fireplaces there are at Mapperton House, so it's about time we find out! We might lose count at a few points during this video, but we now know that there are at least 15 fireplaces in the main house! No wonder we need all that wood!

That's a lovely Clivia (previously called Kaffir Lily). The orange is the most common color but they also come in this delicious pale yellow and other versions in between the yellow and orange. I'm in California...we see these a lot.

My husband was an American military officer. And we lived on the patch in Warminster, Wiltshire for three years. The Lord of Bath's ancestral home is there and we used to buy our firewood from his conservation office. You could request how much you wanted and they would cut it for you in small logs. (Because we only had one, usable fireplace). Then they delivered it to our quarters on the patch. It was very cool!

I noticed there was a radiator under the stairs where the wood is kept. Was that space something else at one time and also, are you not afraid of bugs coming in the house with the wood stored under the stairs. Like termites or spiders or just bugs in general?

I'm surprised that Julie is not just wearing nice thick sweaters all year round. I lived in San Francisco's cold side and I loved being bundled up all year round. Nothing like being socked in under fog in July. Miss it.

Your archival collection should be kept in climate controlled environment: 20 degrees C and 55% relative humidity. 24/7. Other than preventing water, dust, insects, etc, you have to prevent fluctuations of temperature. Paper absorbs water and dries out, and the paper fibres are weakened by continual movement caused by uncontrolled conditions. The Muniment Room is no longer a suitable environment. Perhaps you could repurpose it? Could you do a video on how you are managing your archives, or is it too soon?
