I recently got a new job with a long commute. I picked up a 2022 Tesla Model 3 from Hertz for about $20,000 before incentives. It had 41k miles and some general dings and scratches, but overall it was in great shape. I've only owned it for about 2 months now and it is my first EV, but so far it's the best vehicle I've ever driven, and I've had a lot of cars in my time. The cost and ease to commute with the Model 3 is really great as well. There really is something to be said about being able to charge at home and just be ready to go every day without worry about fuel. I've had way more range anxiety in my ICE vehicles, because I'd run them to when the light comes on. I kept my ICE vehicle too. It's an F150, and every home owner at some point finds themselves needing a solid pickup, but if I could have afforded the Lightning, I would have just gotten one of those and had just the 1 vehicle. On your point about recycling. I've told many people that gasoline and diesel are both finite and you can't recycle them, but lithium battery packs are now being recycled with a 98% efficiency for the entire pack, not just the cobalt. So from the casing to everything in it, they are getting around 95-98% back! that's incredible.

Adam - we had emailed off and on about my Fisker Ocean One. I followed your lead and got out of my Ocean One. I got a Genesis GV60 for a 3 yr lease at $250 a month for a $73k sticker car (I had owned my FOO, which I turned in as a trade). My trade value was far and above any other manufacturer. So I’m pleased with the deal.

My 3 reason for not switching to EV is the excessive user tracking those cars do and phone home. Basic car functionality buried in software apps instead of physical buttons (I don't mind infotainment in there but air vent direction and other simple things no). Third the car has one item in the battery that if it fails is insanely expensive, with a gas car parts will also fail but no single parts is that great of a cost. Bonus, I loath touchscreens outside of phones, they always become laggy and unresponsive as apps are upgraded and time passes, electric cars that are not of the Tesla mold of a giant screen for everything are fine in this regard.
@Aslash304
@Aslash304 3 ай бұрын
All new cars track you. My Honda Prologue has all manual buttons and physical vents. And what parts on a gas car have a mandatory 8 year/100,000 mile warranty? Every single EV in the US have 8 years/100,000 mile warranty on the High Voltage battery. But, you don’t have to switch.

Thanks for the perspicacious read on the bankruptcy process Adam! 🤔 In liquidation, the process might be solely for the purpose of extinguishing the shares in existence and issuing new. If I recall correctly from the SEC website the OTC listing with a ‘Q’ post-fix are all extinguished and new shares with a ‘V’ post-fix are issued. I get more interested as time goes on in the proceeding. So if anyone is looking on with some curiosity, remember which shares have the Q or V post-fix, because these listings might exist at the same time for a short period(until the end of fiscal year, perhaps) The OTC listing will come off the expert market designation. Fisker as a company might continue if there’s a ‘stalking-horse bid’ during liquidation. My guess would be that the current management will obligingly resign, and that a two-tiered share structure will be eliminated. I have no intention of ever coming near Fisker because of the black cat that crossed their path, hopefully the erstwhile company emerging from bankruptcy has learned that they’re providing a tech platform first, then a vehicle, then a marketing scheme.

Hi Adam, thanks for the initiative with the FOA. My questions would be following: Will there be spare parts support for EU owners off Fisker Ocean? Talking of fair price for the spare parts, what sum are we talking about? Who will be responsible for SW updates? Is there any SW update coming within next 3 months and what it would fix? What parts are ocean specific and what parts are general - possible to buy right away and are used in other vehicles? in terms of ocean specific spare parts, would there be schematics available to outsource it or even 3d print it freely? What is forecast of the ocean future for next year? Thanks.

I'll add this. While the Ocean and other EVs get a lot more miles per charge a level one, unless you drive very very few miles, will not cut it. I could avoid the hiring an electrician as our laundry room and garage are right next to each other. I grabbed a level 2 off Amazon that I plug into the laundry room dryer plug and the cord reaches even beyond the garage. A level 2 will give me 10% charge per hour of charging. A level one will be insane. We use about 60% electric per day so that's about 6 hrs of charging per night. We do have the back up REX engine that will get me 70+ miles of range, which is exactly why we bought the BMW i3 REX, it's genius. Nice video but I had these points to add.

A big reason for not switching to EVs is convenience. Things like L3 charging networks, home L2 charging are often times convenience features, and you shouldn't be so dismissive about it. There's genuine merit in not having to "plan" on how to use your ICE/Hybrid car. As long as there's a road that leads to where you want to go, it can get you there. There will be gas stations along the way and is not something you have to route around. As you say, as long as you put planning/forethought into your trips and commute, an EV can do it, but not everyone wants to do that :)

I think level one doesn't get enough press. Same here. 2 years of EV ownership and my daily commute even in the winter, has never forced me to consider installing level 2. I do need to charge level one daily during the winter but that's it. Plug in when returning from work, unplug in the morning leaving. No level 1 issues thus far. I am lucky enough to have level 2 and 3 in my area if I ever need a quick charge in an emergency.

Will future software updates for a fisker cost ? How do I know if I have a potentially incompetent water pump?
@Aslash304
@Aslash304 3 ай бұрын
Every Ocean has a potentially incompetent water pump. That’s they were all recalled. Water drips on to the circuit board and it fails. Unless there’s some significant cooperating and communication, there won’t be any more updates after 2.2. Everything else is a total uncertainty. The cost to get additional updates (even up to 2.2) will be in the form of time, effort, driving distance, and cash. All of which are uncertain. But you can expect the cost to be significant

If you can achieve perfection with it, sure. Windshield is $2,500. A ding will total it. The Air conditioners are failing, the water pumps are bricking the cars, and the vents typically don’t move, so you may be stuck without the opportunity to move the vents, and the manufacturer that makes the vents is defunct. What is it worth? That’s your call to make. Oh, and it could be $300 a month for internet and navigation

ID Buzz and ID camper are 2 different products afaik. Those are build here and especially the long wheel base has been designed for USA only . Not sure if there are 2 things mixed together cause who should buy a long wheel base van if not the americans ? It is not available anywhere else. And Camper is a term used for a kind of bigger van with 60% RV / Motorhome capabilities. That demand is even in Europe quite low for obvious reason cause weight above 3,5 ton is the killer here. Below you can drive unlimited. Above you get a 100 km or 80 km/h limit. And how to build such vehicle if the current diesel are already for years on the verge to overweight. Here there is close to no demand for such Campers llike the VW California even though I am not sure if that will be sold in the USA under the same branding which is a T7 van conversion by VW.

What West Va. deserves or doesn't in the way of DCFCs is irrelevant. EA, ChargePoint, EVgo and the rest are making a business decision on the economic viability of placing a network in the state. Rivian is struggling to make a profit so the last thing they are going to do is place a RAN in Morgantown or Charleston that will rarely be used. Perhaps your Rivian animus is better directed to your state legislature or the state citizenry that are hostile to EVs.... reference your parody (EV Owner vs EV Hater). While you bemoan the charging desert in W.Va., please note there are one or zero RANs in real adventure states like Nevada, Idaho, Dakotas, New Mexico, Montana, etc. .

I tried to provide evidence that the chargers would be for tourists coming from other states with better infrastructure. On your "EVs are harder to refuel". Your NOT TRUE is NOT TRUE. First off I love my EV - 2020 BMW i3 REX. The REX stands for range extender which is a scooter engine matched with a generator and that maintains the HV state of charge, within reason. If you are going up a steep elevation at 75mph with the AC on you will, I have, lost about 7% chsrge until the regen down grade. But, why do I say you are wrong? This is specific to Arizona. It's been a brutal summer, 110-118 degrees for TOO long. I do not have a climate controlled garage. Inside the garage is VERY VERY meltingly hot. If I try to charge my EV the HV cooling fans spin like crazy. They slow down in about 1 minute but they remain on at a lower speed, probably indefinitely. I do have a solution. I program the computer to turn on the charging at 3:00am when it's about 93 degrees and I park outside as my garage retains the heat and is still hotter than the outside temps. So adding to that, If I needed to fast charge, in my garage I have a level 2, but if I had to go to an Electrify America in the blazing sun at 117 degrees would my cooling fan spin out of control for the entire 30-35 charge time? I probably don't want to find out. So, are EVs harder to refuel? At least in beautiful Arizona in the time of the year we hate YES it is harder as I'm not comfortable letting my HV cooling fans stay on like our homes air conditioner which is on almost non-stop. Can my BMW handle it? Maybe but I prefer not to find out and have my HV battery cooling fans have an issue. At least it's not an Ocean where my cooling pump fails.

@@JCJW101 That's a misconception most people have. An RWD has superior braking performance because the weight is distributed among all four wheels. Traction is also enhanced as weight is moved to the rear wheels with increased acceleration. As with any car there are some setbacks. AWD vehicles are heavier than ordinary cars. Because an All-Wheel Drive car only transmits half of the drive force at each wheel, the amount of grip available for cornering forces is greater than a Rear-Wheel Drive car for the same level of engine power. Meaning that the best AWD car will lose sideways grip at much higher cornering forces than the best RWD car. And that is why what I said above about best sports cars, and no wonder F1 cars don't do AWD.
