How many goats can I run per acre is one of the most commonly asked questions on my channel. Everyone wants to know how many goats they can run on their property.

Just a tip with the Flies, put a few chickens in with your goats. The chickens will eat the larvae off of the manure before they become Flies.

The ENTIRE reason why I first got chickens!! I spend so much $$$ on sprays and predators and what have you, then I got chickens. Just 15, but that first summer saw a 80% reduction in flies. No longer was my weepy mare wearing a fly mask that had hundreds of flys on it. She was now able to go without any mask at all! Chickens are awesome.

That's unfortunate. I'm six minutes into the video and it's all about "the factors." While what he's saying is correct, I would at least expect some solid numbers based on factors -- just toss a few examples out there, or provide your own situation as a baseline. Oh well.

Hey Daniel it's Billy over at Far-Mar Homestead in S.E. Kansas. Were on the dairy side of the goat family. We raise Purebred Alpine goats and have had great luck with the milk production and love the mothering skills of our Alpine does. Great video and good advice for new comers to the goat raising experience. A lot of people in our area are hooked on raising the Boer meat goats but we have found that nitch in the market in our area where a good quality goat milk will bring a good profit margin. Keep up the good work on the videos.

We already know it just depends. You have 110 acres, you said...how many goats do you have on your 110 acres? could you do more? Could you double your number? We don't need a video to tell us it depends since we already know that and we don't need a video if we just have to play with it and find out for ourselves... I appreciate the time you put into making this video, but for anyone else who wants some ballpark numbers, my neighbor has 35 pygmy goats on 10 acres with a large pole barn for shelter and some old scrap iron beams and girders for climbing. This is panhandle Florida and the goats keep the grass short 100% of the time. The herd has been self sustaining for about 20 years with little input. Another neighbor has about 20 medium sized meat goats on 10 acres and rotates them in 3 plots every week or two. The grass gets about a foot tall then the goats come in for a week, then they move to the next pen for a week.

Yes, that is my priority, to control brush on over 35 acres. Another thing to consider is how many goats can you transport. 😉 I do not have a truck or a trailer just yet. So I was looking at how many goats can I transport in my Pathfinder. I think 2 is my max. So I was looking at getting 2 bred does so that I could have a maximum of 8 goats. I think that would about be my limit. Of course, what's the chances of both does having triplets?

wanting to clear a neglected farm. There are small to 6' cedars growing all over the pastures. I want to clean up pasture to eventually bring in cattle. Have you calculated Pounds per Acre - I would like to do intensive grazing and possible moves daily.. this means depending on existing forage I could run much smaller paddocks (depending on the number of goats) but based on weight per acre might make it a bit easier to gauge. What say you? thanks for the video

@ArmsFamilyHomestead
@ArmsFamilyHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
Some folks rotate daily, but I've always been told you need to rotate at least every 3-4 weeks to stay ahead of the parasite life cycle. Most worms that goats struggle with have a 28 day life cycle so if you move the goats out of an area before the next cycle of eggs can hatch you don't run the risk of them pickup up the newly hatched parasites from the forage.

So 6 large, dozen small/acre, provided you have pasture to rotate and hay fields to stock up for the winter. Theoretically if all your land is airable you could get as many as 300+ but that leaves little room for error and looks like it would become a PITA after a while.
