So cool I came across this video. I live in Alberta and was out perch fishing the other day. I have the exact auger with the identical issues and got 17 holes on one battery with 26" of ice in -6c. Just picked up a extra battery today. Nice to have backup power I love this auger but imo it's definitely better for early ice.

I drilled 27 holes with my SM 24v in 18” of black ice which is more than I normally drill in a day of running and gunning looking for perch. Love this auger wish I had a second battery but for $150 bucks I’m good with one for now.

Yes with my new battery I get at least 20 holes and no more beeping and stopping I love it
@mikeymike3760 Жыл бұрын
The reverse feature is actually for cleaning the hole without water blowing out. It pushes the ice under the hole , so brush around the top then reverse push your hole shavings and bam no mess clean hole!!
@Jessejames276 Жыл бұрын
No thanks ice floats. When you push it down you will have to clean out hole more often throughout the day as it will float up

Looks like a nice light auger, 16 holes isn’t quite enough for me, almost, but it is easy to buy another battery…. I’d prefer that auger with 2 batteries, than the much heavier 40V strikemaster model.
@lesleochner78573 жыл бұрын
If you are pushing down it might be part of the problem. With electric auger let the drill do the work even pulling slightly up. You'll get the hang of it.

Ok I'll try that
@astewart6664 Жыл бұрын
Yeah when your cutting that much ice I think you wanna pull up every now and then clear the hole a bit everyone and then. Honing the blades every 5 or 10 holes will help it cut easier aswell

seems like the 24 volt would be better for the areas I fish, we never get more than 10 inches, the 40 v strikemaster did good for us when we went to Wis. we had 20 inches or so,

I’ve got 40v going on 3rd season first season bought it brand new had the exact same issue what it was for me when putting the battery in it was not lining up correct the battery was warped a bit so I had to hold the leaver on battery and then slide it on extra battery I bought no problem just the one that came in the box charges fine but just doesn’t sit just right as you slide it on to the connectors unless I hold that leaver as if you were going to remove the battery off power head try that it might be your problem and don’t push down on the auger let it do all the work and it will rip rate threw

Yes no problem with new battery I'll try you suggestions with other battery as well. Thanks for the info

Yes anyone wanting to downsize for pulling and walking out it's perfect. I'm comfortable up to 26-27 inches of ice and still cut enough holes for hope hoping

So I jus tried out my new 24V yesterday and it cut great but I was having the same stop n go issue. I see that it was fixed with a new battery so did you get a replacement from strikemaster? I got a spare battery for mine to try out but I'm not throwing away the original battery it's brand new??
@Jessejames2763 жыл бұрын
I didn't go to strikemaster with the issue I just bought new one. I did keep the other one for a spare

My new 2 week old SM 24v does the same thing and i am certainly not pushing down.... Battery also went to 1 bar after 11 holes in about 18" of ice. I also noticed that when i received it there was only a 1 bar charge. Not what I expected and might be going back. Did you notice that the auger flighting seem to shred a bit on the edges from hitting the inside if the hole?
@Jessejames2763 жыл бұрын
I didn't contact them. Just bought new battery. My flights seem to be ok and I've been cutting a lot of holes this year. We have 26-28" of ice right now

It probably has an overload switch. Can’t overload motor.

When you're done drilling you run it in reverse so it clears the hole.

The slush just floats up the whole later so less scooping if you pull out instead of pushing down

I've been researching this tool vs. The 40strikemaster. Due to the weight difference i was leaning towards this tool for reasons such as yourself. Alot of walking thru the season. So has anything helped with this problem?. Also ive noticed some guys replying same issue with the 40v. So makes the decision even harder. Thanks for the video. And feedback.
@Jessejames2763 жыл бұрын
New battery took care of that problem
@bradbeals17413 жыл бұрын
@@Jessejames276 thanks for the feedback. So in your opinion the 24volt is able to deliver cutting thru ice thickness all winter?. There isn't much of a dollar difference between the 24vs40. But the 10lbs weight savings can be huge on certain outages. Thanks again.

@@Jessejames276 did SM send you a new one? Or did you buy a spare?
@redsoxwinagain20073 жыл бұрын
@@bradbeals1741 they have the 40v configured with a lite flight bit now and brings it down to 21-22 lbs. To better appreciate that size borrow an old 3hp jiffy 10" and drill a bunch of holes. :) On sale you could likely find this for around 500-530 and the 24v 8" i paid 340 for mine. It will be a supply and demand thing as to who wants to hold or get rid of them. Tackle shop near me had a pile of 25 of the 40v units but wants above retail so he will likely have them until the ice melts.
@bradbeals17413 жыл бұрын
@@redsoxwinagain2007 thanks for the response. I just found a 24volt 8in. For about 330 after all savings on-line. It was a premium shipping fee though. Just got it last week and was missing the bolt attaching the head to the blade...contacted striker and they sent one right out. Hopefully I'll be able to put it to use this late in the season here in ohio...either way it'll be alot better than my manual auger... Thanks everyone for the responses.

No one wants to listen to those things anymore. Here in Wisconsin, 75% of the people I see out on the lakes are using their 18 volt drills with auger adapters, 15% are using the new electric powerheads and the remaining 10% still have old leaky, stinky, noisy gas augers. The future is now old man
