I have this auger. I live in Manitoba. We have very thick ice here late in the season. I have no problem with this auger cutting through thick ice. If you are going to run and gun, I suggest you buy an extra battery. And make sure you keep your battery warm. For the kind of fishing I do, I never drill more than 20+ holes in a single outing. So this auger fits me perfectly. It packs a punch and is very light weight.

@ that is so great to hear! I have one question concerning the blade. Didn’t know it was plastic and I’m totally fine with that. But I’ve read that a few people who have purchased this have said that the shaft snapped in half. Maybe they were applying too much pressure. I don’t know. But have you had this problem since owning yours?

I want to like the StrikeMaster but… I got the new 24V with the lite-flite bit at only 14 lbs. anything sold after Aug 2021 has a recall on the blades. Got the new auger a month ago and it would stop every 6-8” and beep. They told me to get the recall blades which I did. They were worse! Didn’t cut, they just spin on top of the ice. Lean hard on them they cut a little. Returned the whole thing to the local store and they gave me a new one. The store took my original auger And a demo floor model to the lake and the demo model cut right through the ice whereas my auger wouldn’t cut at all. I took the new auger home went right to the lake I drilled a 12 inch hole OK and the second hole wouldn’t cut at all. Took it to a different lake same thing. Sent a message to StrikeMaster and they told me I have bad blades and to order the Recall blades. Hopefully they’ll ship the blades next week. I am very skeptical this is the fourth set of blades on two new augurs. They don’t cut ice at all. They’re having a lot of problems with their quality of blades. I’m starting to get nervous I might just return it again. Go back to the ion. I had my generation 1 Ion for seven years and it worked flawlessly really sad that I sold it. Update 3/26/22: So I got replacement blades for the 2 nd auger…. They cut a lot better. By that time it got warm out so the ice had a lot of water content and was softer so it cut right through 18” of ice and did 28 holes. Hope it will work this good when the ice is cold and hard. We will see next year.
@LivinMNOutdoors2 жыл бұрын

Getting too warm after drilling all those holes continuously? That's not a real-world scenario. I'm certain the battery and motor-gearbox were never rated for a 100% duty cycle. I've looked at this unit and it's on my shopping list. Good value, especially when my local store puts it on sale!

I reached out to about a dozen owners of this auger... The majority of them said, " it reopens old holes like a dream." 1 or 2 of them said, " your better off with a chipper blade". I hope this was the information you were looking for. Thanks for watching.
@popanddonnacollinsworth77413 жыл бұрын
I would go with chipper blades as opposed to laser blades for redrilling existing holes. Laser blades are faster for sure but chipper blades are more rugged and more durable. Keep a taut line!

So strike master claims 50 holes @ 16” thick. That’s 800”. You got 600” back to back drilling. Have you asked strike master about this difference ?
@Van0202804 жыл бұрын
I'm on pace for 600" per charge myself with my 24v through 12 in of ice. I will say, that the 24v in this video appears to be cutting slower than mine does. Mine is super fast and super smooth... that one seems to be slower.

Honestly, people aren't going to cut that many holes unless they are in tournaments and in tournaments they cut up to 200 300 holes, or just really running and gunning, most people would just use this in ice castle. Pros and cons got to give somewhere. In return of light weight you lose some battery capacity. No perfect auger out there.
