I am 37 years old. I have run 61 marathons now. I run 8 to 13 miles 3 times a week (30 miles weekly) . Marathons are pretty easy once u have run several . I used to run 50 miles a week 5 years ago and had faster times but my body and back hurt often. I miss my faster times but FEELING HEALTHY IS WAY MORE IMPORTANT. Running a marathon is my favorite activity that i have ever done.

runningkirk wa thanks for your insight. I used to run frequently but mainly cycle now. Would like to accomplish a marathon on 3 runs per week and maintain my cycling as much as possible so your comment gives me some confidence. Out of curiosity what paces do you run and race at?

I just started running 42 days ago, haven’t missed a day and I’m at 270 miles. I couldn’t run even 1 mile without my knee and breathing stopping me. I cleaned up my diet, never eat at restaurants anymore(seed and vegetables oils) or eat products or processed foods. My knee pain went away and my breathing feels effortless and I’m recovering from runs overnight. I did 2 back to back 16 milers on week 3. If I can recommend anything, I would recommend being vigilant with what you put in your body. 1:00 Runner #2 is injured and never runs the marathon.

I'm training for my first marathon and the plan I'm using has 3 runs a week, involving a long run and a medium long run, with a day of bicycling and some strength training and flexibility.

What if you run two times a week and then run 2-5 km as a warmup for strenght training four times a week?
