Saying “Let’s use up art supplies I already have” and then buying a new, larger set, is the most relatable artist thing ever. 😂

Shorter videos of each painting would be great to see ! I think seeing the progress would be more fun than a single long video! Love your work ❤️

Wow!! The piece ended up stunning, I can’t believe you achieved those colors with the himi gouache, they almost look fluorescent!! I can’t wait to see your future paintings!!

Yessss I love seeing you paint traditionally! I think if you're painting full pieces like this then they might as well be one per video, we like to see you using gouache so there's no need to cram it all in one, plus it might make it easier for you to edit and turn it into a bit of a series ☺

Oooh this is such a good idea! My himi paints keep drying up because I don’t use them enough - the chalky look is something I’ve also noticed, and I also only use them in my sketchbook because they aren’t lightfast. I don’t think selling/giving away non lightfast pieces is a good idea because you can’t guarantee that people will properly care for it, and I wouldn’t want a gift to fade quickly. I would love to see maybe two or three a video? I think a long compilation of all of them might be a lot, but you could always do a long compilation at the end that’s all the processes sped up 50x

I'd prefer a mini-siries of videos on the Himi gouche rather than a 40 min video, it will definetly be more interesting to see progress from video to video than one big video (but that's just me). The final painting turned out beautifully! Can't wait to see your next piece with those paints!

As soon as you mentioned student grade paints, it makes me wonder if you'll test out professional vs student grade watercolors, gouache or oil paints one day! I remember you painting some simple landscapes in oils and actually really like the variety of painting subjects you've done, including studies of travel locations (i.e. your Paris retreat!!) and fruit. 🍓🌸✨ I also find it adorable that the Himi Gouache pink palette matches your fireplace!

Maybe you could do a check-in every one or two weeks of your progress? or maybe a halfway point check-in? like when you finish the first tub of white? but definitely seeing the process is enjoyable so don't hold back! ( while keeping in mind your comfort level for your eyes!)

yes to more gouache painting videos. i low key regret not getting the jelly cup set of himi gouache but instead i bought a smaller tube set of them. lol. but i'm quite impressed with how they perform so far and need to practice more too.

It would be cool to see if you could avoid using the extra white, replacing white with some of the paler colors would make for some really interesting palettes. I always love seeing you paint traditionally :)

Your painting came out great! I just bought himi set that came with a big extra pouch of white paint, mold spray, extra brushes, some canvas boards, and other extras off amazon for only $15 dollars more than the original price. So excited to try them.

This painting turned out beautiful! I’m so glad you mentioned that the paints are not lightfast (no brand of gouache is; even professional paints like Winsor & Newton are not archival). I’ve seen so many people use gouache without doing the research, and even selling the paintings. Also like that you mentioned markers. They fade even under UV glass. There’s this one artist who draws these huge, gorgeous Copic drawings and sells the originals for thousands, and I’m just 😬. Don’t wanna be “that person” who comments that on her Instagram tho lol. Anyway, looking forward to the other paintings you do in this series!

I’ve was just thinking about your art, pretty cool you uploaded this same day. You’re one of my best artistic muses. Something that I love in your art and would love to try out is how ‘dewy’ everything looks in your paintings? Especially digitally, everything has a very whimsical sort of dewiness, it helps make everything look really soft. I’ve been trying to develop a softer look in my art, and your wispy lines with the dewy look (still not sure if that’s the right term) are exactly the inspiration I’ve needed. Speaking of lines, do you think you could make a video on lines? My instinct is always to make straight lines with sharp angles, and I’d love to see a video focusing on the importance of the lines you put down and ways to experiment with it.

I think it would be fun to see multiple videos throughout your process vs one long one. Not sure which is more stressful for you in regards to the editing process. 😅 Also, in regards to your question earlier in the video about selling artwork that isn't lightfast, I personally do not want to sell artwork that isn't lightfast. I have used materials that are not lightfast, but I only sell prints and not the originals if the finished piece is something I love. I recently completed a bird field journal study illustration. I used Copic markers for the colored illustrations before finishing the spread layout digitally to make prints.

So beautiful! This is an interesting challenge, I want to try gouache so maybe I’ll get the himi gouache set. But Im torn about selling artwork made form non lightfast material too. As long as the artist is transparent about the materials being used then it’s up to the consumer to make the decision if the piece is still worth the price the artist is offering it at.

If the paint was a MUCH smaller amount, I'd say one big video. However I think doing a series would be a better idea, especially since it'd be able to show the progress some more and you can share more thoughts on the challenge as it progresses.

Hullo Sara, I have enjoyed your videos for quite a while, I know that you excel in portraiture. I have watched a channel by "Arleebean" she creates portraits in unusual colors. I believe you might try some of her color combinations and this will allow you to use more of the colors once your choices become more limited. I have seen the white jelly gouache cups for sale in sets of 3 or so. I believe your jar of paint might be a better solution for this challenge. I am not a fan of the jelly gouache faze and I have use several brands over the years. I find Turner Design Gouache the most reliable and consistent brand. It like all gouache is a flat paint, this can look quite "chalky" in the cheaper brands. It is a side effect of the addition of cheap white paint added to the color range to bulk up the paints for cost reasons. I want to see all of your paintings, perhaps in a video showing progress after a month? At the end of your challenge? I am following you on Instagram, but I do want more videos too! Best of luck going forward!

I have a set of pretty expensive gouache, but since it’s so expensive I get scared to use it often, maybe I should invest in cheaper gouache that I can feel more comfortable practicing with and use the nicer stuff for finished pieces.

From a ""content creator"" perspective, I think it might be smart to upload multiple shorter videos, but also have on concluding video summing all of the pieces up when you're finished (what you called a thesis) This way you get to use the big nice interesting "how many paintings did i finish with this palette" but also put out some videos to follow along with the process// for people who just enjoy seeing you paint in the first place I hope that made sense :')))
