You should try having a wheel spin to decide which piece you have to move. If you can't move that piece you spin again.

In the game against the maximum bot (3200 elo), however, every time you lose, you remove one piece for maximu. So you lose 1 game, you removed 1 pawn until, if you lost again, then remove 1 more pawn, etc. If you have lost 8 times, then remove the knights, then the bishop, then the rook and finally the queen. I hope you understand

He always defends against mate-in-1, and he usually takes the queen if he can. You could maybe do it with 1 pawn if you went with something other than a queen and didn't go right up next to the king

I thought you'd increase by 1 pawn until you win. Once you added a whole row, I expected you to go down (like by 1 until you lost, or down by 4 then up/down 2 depending on win/loss). Now we only know that you need somewhere between 2-9 pawns to be Martin. Beyond that, my strat for beating Martin with 1 pawn would be to push king ASAP. I'd hope to distract with my king, occasionally capturing any hung pieces, then make a safe path for my pawn. Because your only win con is the pawn, that's the piece you need to keep safest, so I'd never throw it forward into danger like that. I'd probably lose it still to, like, an attack on my pawn while its only moves are also in danger, but... hey, that's the best I've got.

Maybe for the one pawn scenario, you could have potentially underpromoted to a knight or a bishop and then trapped the King, but I think that's pretty unlikely.
