I think by experience everyone though at first that female Hippowdon was shiny My favorite gender difference has to be Meowstic, I love both forms and especially the shiny female one, she looks so classy with her serious look and red eyes, plus it's a cat And for Farigiraf, I would just do the same as its pre-evolution : make its dark section longer

The Meowstics are pretty adorable true, good cats!

Oh cool, I was literally talking about wishing for more gender differences for starters since there's really only 3 starter lines with some sort of difference

It's a shame the series dropped this idea after Gen 4, it was such a fun bit of world-building

Right! I want them to go back to it for sure!

Except if anything- it didn't? If Jellicent's line, the Unfezants, and Meowstics are any indication.. plus the retcon to Eevees.

Around almost 6 months ago I was playing Violet going about my business in the Indigo Disk DLC at Blueberry Academy when in the Canyon Biome I found something interesting going on with the Horsea that were spawning in.. some of them were clearly darker or lighter in color even with the same "lighting" but neither the darker or lighter colored ones were shiny which after looking up what that looks like could even be seen without having to battle. I even came across a pair of two in a clearing of sorts almost side by side yet both still clearly in camera shot and I could even more clearly see the difference in color, I even went around to the other side of the puddle to see if it was the lighting or something like that, but, nope.. so I took a screenshot on the system for future comparison between the two as well as what the shiny should look like in game via the Internet. Memory is a bit hazy, but, if it still serves correctly the darker one was male and the lighter one was female

I really hate being a doomer about Pokemon but to me it's abundantly clear that the reason the mechanic was mostly ditched after Gen 4 was to cut back on development time and costs. It's sad but true.
