I'm just so overwhelmed by everything at the moment, for me having a very concrete place with rules that I can just focus my energy on, that's very helpful for me right now.

I also tried reading The Longest Journey for the read-along, but ultimately DNF'd it. Unless you plan on becoming a scholar of Forster, I'd say that one could probably go to a charity shop today. :-) Happy reading!

We do have a buddy read of A Net for Small Fishes 😂 October? Or November? Something like that. Loved looking at your Booker pile - can’t wait to see what makes it 🤩 You need to move Small Worlds into your read pile though. I haven’t read it yet, but Open Water was stunning, defo a writing style that I think you will love. And if you don’t like it you can always DNF it… 10 books a month - 1 book every 3 days 😂😂😂 for 5 months 😂😂😂 You can totally do this 😬😳😬😳

Falling Animals is definitely one of those books where the blurb has no relation to what the book is actually about 😂 It was brilliant, I loved it, but it has very little to do with the body on the beach.

I DNFed Here Again Now recently because i had to return it to the library but also because I didn’t feel like it was going anywhere so I didn’t push on. Deals very heavily with grief fyi. Ooh I really want to read Whatever Happened to Queer Happiness. 10 books a month is definitely doable considering you might DNF some here and there. You have some reading to doooo!

A WWI Novel I had not heard of! Side notes?!? Hate floppy paperbacks?!? I mean I understand hating the American part. I couldnt do 10 books a month. BUT you of course are much stronger than I.

I'm also not sure I can do 10 books a month...but I like a challenge 😂. I cannot with American paperbacks, why do they use such thin paper, and such thin card for the front a back...I hate them so much!

Doing too many things at once for me unfortunately. Small Worlds felt timeless to me? It’s the quality of the writing, lyrical, that I really enjoyed.

I just finished Falling Animals and it is really rather good. I'm hoping to get time to film a (spoiler free) review of it very soon. That's interesting to hear that you think Small Worlds is timeless rather than rooted very much in the modern day, that encourages me more to read it, thanks.

@@JentheLibrarianreads , I think the lasting impression of that book, for me, is it says something about strong family culture, dreams versus reality when you're young & figuring out the world, and loneliness. I do need to get to Open Water!

Wow, the UK cover of The New Life is very different and fun. I think the end of City of Night really sold the whole experience for me--but it did sometimes feel like a lot to get to that point. I've actually been very intrigued by Enchanted April but have no idea if I would ever get to it. This was fun!

I highly recommend figuring out how many pages you need to read a day! I do that, even when I don't have any kind of deadline, as it just helps me to stay current with my reading.

I definitely work out how many pages I have to read a day and use that as a vague guide. I really find Storygraph helpful for this, when I remember to update where I'm at with a book then I can see each day if I've reached that target - super useful if I'm reading multiple books at once

Okay, some of the library books can be returned unread. And the one you borrowed from a friend. But all the others sound so good, you have to read them. There's no other way. 😂 And you don't have to read ten books a month. I'm sure there will be some DNFs hidden within the ten every month. So you only have to tackle ten books a month, one way or the other. 😉
