You can use a shortcut formula ... D = b^2-4ac, to find out how many x-intercepts a quadratic function has.
Discriminant is POSITIVE = there are 2 x-intercepts
Discriminant is ZERO = there is 1 x-intercept
Discriminant is NEGATIVE = there are NO x-intercepts
