I'd love to learn a bit more about the difficulty and the 'extent' of the match fixing in the Italian League when Maradona joined so I can get a better idea of just what sort of achievement getting Napoli to win the League was. Either way, I'm a Messi a guy, but I think it's fair to say maybe Messi is the most talented, most beautiful to watch, but if you're talking about achieving greatness, it's kinda gotta be Maradona. I'd still take Leo over Maradona in a game, but Maradona was just SO much better than everybody else around him that he could achieve things that even Leo, with all his talent, simply can't anymore. From your Average players to the best players they're all significantly better trained, way fitter, and the coaching they receive as well as their understanding of the game, systems, and ability to prepare for different opposition thanks to endless video footage and analytical information just makes it SO hard for individual Geniuses to just carry a team and defeat the opposition at the same time. Nobody is winning a League, World Cup or Champion's League by themselves anymore.

Football is an intense game where the players have to move their bodies nonstop for 45 mins which affects their physical health. Combining the toxicity and passion shared by the fans takes a toll on their mental state and health. Maradona and Ronaldinho are the perfect examples of escaping the physical and mental toll by doing drugs and partying. All I am saying is, that we should not look down on these players, rather we should understand that Football takes a huge toll on the players and they deserve our empathy.
@silvesta50272 жыл бұрын
To me they represent how NOT to deal with the mental and physical tolls of football. How choosing to drown your problems in drug fuelled partying is universally a terrible idea. It's why players like them no longer exist in football, if you go down that route you simply cannot succeed in the long term. We should look down on them, pity them and learn from their mistakes. It's tragic how they killed their careers, but they did it to themselves. Maradona by every metric was a complete scumbag. Yes I can empathise and feel sorry for him, but it doesn't change his actions. He was self-entitled, lazy, arrogant, drug addicted and a cheater, both in football and in his personal relationships. But it just so happens that this scumbag also was a one in a generation footballer and a titan of the game. We shouldn't idolise people for their talent alone, that's so superficial and shallow. Maradona's legacy is as much about his footballing genius as it is his moral failings
