I was surprised how fun the online coop is in wonder. I still wish couch coop allowed collision between players. It’s fun throwing your friends/siblings around.

Absolutely have to agree on the multiplayer aspect. Search party seems to be designed specifically to highlight the pros of the system. Also, i'm pretty sure the multiplayer system sometimes changes other users character so it doesn't conflict with the player if needed. I stumbled upon a youtuber in a level, playing as peach, to later message them about it. Having them confirm it was them, but that they were playing as Luigi. The same character i was playing. Thus maximizing how many players avaliable to play with at any time.

Oh interesting! I imagine that might relate to how all the non-yoshi or nabbit characters have the same starting abilities now - with stuff like Peach's hover and Luigi's leg kick now badges. It's like how MGS Peace Walker's MP made every player look like Snake on their own devices.

I had the social stuff all turned off during the early part of the game, and while I was still enjoying it the game didn't totally "click" with me until I turned them on (it also helps that the map hugely opens up and the creativity of the levels really kicks into overdrive after world 3).

The one big downside is that even my switch sitting docked in my house will kick you back to offline mode after going to sleep, requiring walking over to a little satellite dish in the game to turn connectivity back on.

Same for me. The moment that you can tackle the other islands in whatever order is when the game really became something special.

Great video! I think that Metroid would do actually very well with this system, but I think really only if they did an invasion style mechanic because Metroid works best when it feels like you're isolated and having player assistance outside of the game world I think would take away from that a little bit, but if it was a antagonistic mechanic I think that would only benefit the isolation. (This was all written in speech to text so I apologize for any spelling errors)

Haven't picked it up yet so I didn't even know this was a mechanic, that's really cool. Reminds me of one of my favorite parts of multiplayer in the Souls games, guiding players to hidden secrets they might not have known about.

Haven't picked up Wonder yet, but this is SO cool. It gets me thinking about Journey too, a little bit. Loved your ideas in this-and I'm so psyched to see how similar strategies get implemented in games going forward.

I get it, I'm sure it's a great game, but GOD I'm tired of 2D Mario games. In my eyes, Odyssey was the last great Mario game.

Honestly, 2D Mario isn't my thing either. The NES games are a bit too antiquated for me, SMW is okay and the New Super Mario Bros games I didn't touch after the first one. But, Mario Maker 2 was super inventive, and this manages a similar feat. Not that I need to sell you on a game that sold a Nintillion copies without this video, but this is the rare 2D Marios as good as the 3D ones.
