I'll say. However, my method on this would be more about works I know and personally love, so, for works like sci-fi and magical girls as examples, it means that I'll take more inspiration from Star Wars and FreeSpace and not Star Trek, and also Cardcaptor Sakura and Puella Magi Madoka Magica and not Sailor Moon and Minky Momo. Also, the occasional "Take That" against works I know and abhor, like Spy Kids and Wolfenstein: Youngblood. Would love to give my own Batman Beyond "Heroes" styled rendition of those works if need be.

@@michaelandreipalon359 All those are very fine ideas. People do say "write what you know." Now personally, I'm always looking to broaden my horizon and take inspiration from just about anything I can find, and maybe extend my own repertoire of interests as well. If I had to pick favorites though it would probably be pretty much anything in the sci-fi, fantasy, or action adventure genre. And just so you know I'm personally a fan of the Spy Kids franchise, at least of the first three movies, not so much the fourth one or the Netflix movie or the cartoon show. I’ve been thinking about it for a while but now, this video has inspired me to finally come out and say it. It’s most likely going to sound like a “no duh” sort of response; but I still want to get it off my chest. Here goes. Spider-Man IS Marvel’s Batman. Other people will say that Iron Man, Black Panther, Daredevil or Moon Knight are Marvel’s Batman(or will make the claim that they are ripping off The Dark Knight)…but when you really stop and think about it, all of their alleged connections are really just surface level. Daredevil-Wears a scary costume, has a history of dealing with Ninja, has a no kill rule and a sordid reputation/history of lovers. Black Panther-Rich guy in a black suit with a cape and animal based identity. Iron Man-Rich business owner who wears several suits that are chocked full of gadgets and technology. Moon Knight-Guy struggling with his mental health while beating up criminals (Maxwell Grant is not Marc’s base personality and throwing themed boomerangs is not something specific to only Batman). And as for Pete? Spider-Man-An orphan raised by elderly people acting as surrogates to his dead parents who is motivated by a personal tragedy and code of ethics to fight crime in a major metropolitan city who; despite wearing a costume that’s based around an animal associated around the world with fear and horror and the night…is a symbol of hope and compassion to not only the people around him, but also to the villains he fights, villains who, much like him; are majority of the time just victims of One (or more) Bad Day(s). Spider-Man=Batman. ‘Nuff Said.

While I'm sure some of this was parallel thinking (like how Shriek's design predated his character), these guys definitely knew the trends of comic book stories. It's impressive how they, both, kept reimagining old Batman characters and took deep inspiration from other series to make new and original things. It's a masterclass in creativity, and I'm sure the insanely tight schedule was strong motivation. But a lesser team would have crumbled under that pressure and churned out random or generic plots, and blatant knockoff characters. True artists, all of them.

I really enjoyed the video, although admittedly a big comparison to Batman Beyond is that to Spider-Man 2099. Granted, Terry doesn't have a lot of similarities to Miguel as a character but the concept of a futuristic version of an established hero was a big influence on Batman Beyond since Miguel's debut was in 1992. I get that the whole concept futuristic heroes already existed but Spider-Man 2099 was definitely an influence.

I can see why you’d say that, although the people I’ve spoken to never brought him up. Classic Peter Parker Spider-Man was mentioned a lot - and I have to wonder if perhaps Spider-Man 2099 and Batman Beyond took inspiration from the same things, particularly Blade Runner and Akira?

The Spider-Man influence on Beyond is very strong. Peter Parker and Terry share another thing in common: they are both underappreciated. Terry is often thrown under the bus in modern dc comics in favour of the more popular members of the bat family (Tim takes his mantle for example) and Peter... Well, let's just say the poor treatment of Spider-Man from Disney Marvel is a huge can of worms I rather not open. Again. Enough people online have rightfully criticise Marvel for their disrespect towards the Spider-Man franchise. The brain trust episode was great and really highlighted the compassion of Terry.

Batman Beyond, Static, Blue Beetle, Ms Marvel, Danny Phantom... whoever is the teenager hero, it's easy to see some influence from Spider man in them. As fan of super hero and pitches, I even created a OC hero inspired by characters from this archtype: The Spectruman His story basically a mix of Spider Man teenager drama with Green Lantern sci fy concepts, about a average student who is choosen by Percyon, a warrior from the Order of the Spectrum Knights, a group of galatic peacekeepers who were extinct during a battle. In his last moments, Percyon gives his power (a cosmic force that gives it's user light powers, including flight, , energy projection, pass through solid objects and move in the speed of light), turning the young man into the new and, at the moment, the last Star Knight. After using his powers to save a family, the boy is inspired to use his abilites to help people, which comes to conflict with his life as teenager (NOTE: Despite the cosmic lore behind his powers, most of the story I develop until now takes place on Earth, with Spectruman learning to be a hero and dealing with different enemies, including super villains aliens, mystical creatures and others). As I mention, much like Peter Parker, Spectruman is also teenager who has to find a balance between his two lifes and is traumatized by the loss of a father figure, although 1) While Peter was motivated by the guilt for his uncle's death, Spectruman, despite having doubts about what his father thought about him is more motivated by his desire to be great person like his father (who is a firefighter who died while trying to save a kid) and 2) Spectruman is not a smart nerd like Peter. He's just average 17 old boy who enjoys things like comics, films and spending time with his friends. His struggles are more similar to characters like Miles Morales, Kamala Khan or Wally West, with him dealing with high expectations his family and teachers, growing from anxious inexperient kid to heroic and confident man. His villains also take inspiration from Spidey's rogues gallery, as well other villains Frost Fist - Spectruman's rival from school who, after an accident, gains ice powers and become one of his main enemies. He's basically the Hotstreak to Spectruman's Static (with some elements from Flash Thompson, including the fact I plan to later give him sort of a redemption arc). Due to his abuses he suffered from his father and the pressure from his friends (who were also bullies), Frost Fist represents what Spectruman could become if wasn't for good influence his family and friends had on him. Devastation - Spectruman's Rhino. He's a criminal who, due to some experiments, is turned into a big hulking monster, wanting to defeat the hero and gain respect in the Underworld. He's a dark reflection of Spectruman's insecurites and dedication to always improve himself, only that Devastation tries to achive this goal through toxic ways. Antmalion - A mix of Chameleon and Twice from MHA. He's criminal capable of create copies of himself and others. Despite being a thief, Antmalion is not actually evil. He's very clumsy, meek and timid man. It's his duplicates (who represents the dark sides of his mind and repressed emotions) that convice him to commit crimes, very similar to the Ventriloquist and Scarface. No matter how many times his duplicates died in the battles against Spectruman, Antmalion always create new ones, representing how he's stuck in this internal conflict). This interactions between him and his duplicates works as reflection of Spectruman's duality. Tyrod - Inspired by Kraven the Hunter he's an alien mercenary, with the apperance of a humanoid tyger, who seeks to challenge the Spectruman for duel, since the young man is Spectrum Knight, a member of group rival to Tyrod's family of warriors. He represents Spectruman's desire to live up to his family expectation. Checkmate - Inspired by characters like Kingpin and Norman Osborn, he's a wealthy genius who controls most of Spectruman's city and use his resources to create super villains to keep Spectruman's busy and unable to interfer in the small street crimes (very similar to Tombstone in Spectacular Spider Man). Later I plan to reveal that he has power of causing Vertigo effect on his victims. Doctor Chimera - A mix of Mr Sinister and Doctor Octopus (the Olivia version from Into Spider Verse). She's a mad scientist responsible for Checkmate experiments on the criminals and turning them into super villains, treating them like they are her "childrens" and always tries to manipulate them to achive her goals. Much like Devastation, Chimera also represents Spectruman's need of improving himself, as well a dark reflection of Spectruman's mother, who, unlike Chimera, loves and care for her son. Syren - Inspired by the Shocker and Silver Swan, she's an winged alien mercenary with a sonic scream with a surreal detail: She's capable of creating sound waves in the shape of " onomatopoeias" (exemple: if she says "boom", the word appears in the place of the explosion, if she says "bang", she shoot's "sonic bullets" in the form of the word). Scarlet Spectrum - Spectruman's twin villain (like Venom, Black Adam and, specially Sinestro), a surviving member of Spectrum Knights who was once one their best warriors. However, tragic events lead him to become corrupt tyrant. His rivalry with Spectruman would be similar to Peter and Norman or Batman and Ra's Al Ghul from Teen Titans cartoon, with Scarlet Spectrum wantin to bring Spectruman to his side, to corrupt him, even if means having to kill all his friends and loved ones. Not only the Scarlet Spectrum represents what Spectruman could become if he let his anxiety and fear of failure consume him but also, the fact he was once one the greatest Spectrum Knights, makes Scarlet Spectrum a representation of the hero Spectruman wanted to become, and he rejecting the villain represents Spectruman choosing to not become like the Scarlet Spectrum but rather to be better than him, to belive in himself instead of just copying the others Spectrum Knights who came before.

2:59 Unfortunately in current Spider-Man comics the writers now just have horrible stuff happen to Peter for the sake of it and think that makes him relatable.

A good show, Lelouch, but not a great show anymore. Sure is quite hard for me to enjoyably rewatch it and X-Men: TAS nowadays, although at least they're more coherent than G.I. Joe and Transformers 1984.

@@michaelandreipalon359 I mean I do prefer Spectacular and yeah some shows have surpassed them, but they are both still great shows that get the writing, the character personalities, their dynamics and more down then other shows do.

@@mandalorianhunter1 Artful qualities are nice, but I'm also one who prefers fictional works ending properly and not frustratingly unresolved for so many years to come, unless deliberately done ambiguously a la FreeSpace 2, and NOT messily a la Battlestar Galactica 2003. With that in mind, the otherwise dated Spider-Man: The Animated Series wins on that in a long shot. Hard to rewatch, sure, but I'm better off letting the TV turned on broadcasting it, while I may be forced to change the channel in case Spectacular painfully shows up instead.

Random question but who did the animation for btas in that episode where Barbara is day dreaming of Batman and then robin snaps her out of it? That animation was the best.

That was animated by Dong Yang. They did a lot of the episodes of The Adventures of Batman and Robin.

I’ve been getting a lot of use of the DC universe streaming service to read more comics. Is there a solid equivalent to Marvel
@SerumLake

The Marvel Unlimited app is pretty decent. Newer comics are added to the library 3 months after publication, which isn’t quite as good as the top tier on DC Infinite but still pretty generous

12:10 isn’t it a little convenient and remember in the Phantasm video where who ever killed Bruce’s parents should have been a mystery as it was a random act of violence that went wrong not a hitman for the mob or the Owls or being the Joker like in Tim Burton’s Batman because should that be the same Spider-Man until Spider-Man 3 where the Sandman was the real killer of Uncle Ben and the guy he chased in the first movie was just the partner which only avenged the car just because Sandman had no connection to Spider-Man, he was just some guy who got powers which isn’t that lazy writing?
