Clock King and Vertigo, while often fighting againsr Batman, are more often seen as Green Arrow's villains. Similarily, the Cobra Cult, the Royal Flush Gang, Solomon Grundy and others are not exclusive to Batman, they're general DC villains. Grundy especially is cosidered Green Lantern Alan Scott's villain before graduating to just a bad guy for any hero to fight. Carmine Falcone and, to a lesser extent, Boss Maroni, should count as Batman villains. They're very often used and are distinct enough from regular mobsters to count as villains (It's not like other media create new generic mobsters, it's almost always Falcone). And this one isn't an error but like, it did feel bizarre for you to discuss the Terrific Trio without pointing out they're obvious Fantastic Four parodies

@@NeoAya Joe Chill should not count, he's not a villain, he's just some down on his luck dude who did what he felt he had to in order to make ends meet. Making him an actual character just undermines the message, that being that Bruce's parents died because of a random act of violence, something he now strives to prevent. Making Joe Chill an evil villain shifts Batman from being a protector to being an avenger, from trying to save everyone to trying to make one guy in particular pay. Carmine is obviously a villain though, if he had a silly name like "Criminal Falcon" or something he'd be Batman's 2nd most iconic villain

There are actually two Mad Hatters. One who is obsessed with hats, and the one obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. Both are named Jervis Tetch and are called The Mad Hatter, but they are two different characters. Even Comic Vine doesn't list them as one.

The Mad Hatter who was obsessed with hats was named Jervis Tetch first, but was retconned when the Wonderland Mad Hatter returned and "reclaimed" his identity. The Hat-themed hatter is now relegated as an imposter, and is simply called the Imposter Mad Hatter or Hatman.

Loved this deep dive, I can't believe I watched all of it. One note is that Solomon Grundy in The Batman was actually Clayface using his story story/alias. There's a stinger of a hand rising from the swamp at the end implying that the real Solomon Grundy is alive, but that's not who gets screentime or who Batman fights.

@@Cooper-Radio a lot of Batman beyond takes inspiration from Spiderman and the Marvel comics universe. There are the obvious parallels like Terry McGinnis being a teenage superhero balancing his high-school life with the life of a superhero. But also many Batman Beyond villains very loosely parallel Marvel characters. Aside from the Terrific Trio, there’s spellbinder who has similar illusion/mind altering powers to Mysterio, Inque has similar shapshifting powers and black goo design to Venom, Screech uses gauntlets similar to Shocker (though using sound instead of electricity), Stalker has a similar mission of taking out the deadliest prey like that of Craven the Hunter etc.

@@Zionswasd I'm not referring to the video length, but the effort the research would take. There may be almost a hundred or so Batman adaptations in total, but there are literally THOUSANDS of comics. And still, no one has named any decent Batman villains who have yet to make it out of the comics.

@@SarcyBoi41 It's not a lot of effort to read that many comics, they're picture books, you can skim them and find the bold font names of new villains/just look for the new costume designs, and im sure all of them are documented online anyway, and it seems like he's already read through most of them already, but discounted comic-only villains. You could probably get through every Batman comic in history to find all his villains with a few months of steady research. He's been in almost 10k of his own comics, and each is about 1/10th of the length of an average novel, and being picture books with generally very distinct villain costumes and usually bolded names, you can skim through each one to find any new villains and list them in a few minutes tops. Do that a few hundred times, referencing wikis to cut the research down further. Shit I love batman and listmaking, I could do it in less than a year and I'm not being paid for it like he is.

Great video. I'm very interested in both the topic and how you're approaching the villain debuts. I didn't even know about the Calendar Man (and potentially Zsasz) cameos in The Batman vs. Dracula! My only issue is the lack of Dr. Phosphorus as an inspiration for characters like Blight or Phosphorus. The latter was even going to glow green like in the comics instead of orange.

in the comics there is a Dr Phosphorus separate to Firefly interesting note, Batman 66 Tie-in Comics reveal False Face' real name as Basil Karlo & he becomes Clayface is there going to be a part 2? kinda strange that some duos/trios were counted as 1, also the fact aliases used by more than 1 person weren't shown as separate (eg: technically you included Matt Hagen & Basil Karlo as Clayface but Cassius Payne & Ethan Bennett were not)

I'm kinda curious how you're gonna handle the Arkham games. Arkham Asylum features several comic villains who don't physically appear in the game, but are portrayed in database entries unlocked by solving riddles. These are Great White Shark, Humpty Dumpty, Prometheus and Amadeus Arkham. A very different version of Humpty Dumpty later appeared in Beware the Batman, but afaik none of the others ever appeared in other non-comic Batman media (Prometheus was poached by Arrow due to Green Arrow not having a sufficient rogues gallery of his own, but Arrow has no connection to Batman). The warden of the asylum, an original character named Quincy Sharp, is also revealed through Riddler puzzles to be an insane vigilante serial killer who believes himself possessed by Amadeus Arkham's ghost due to Hugo Strange's manipulation of him. Arkham City features a pair of original villains, Hammer and Sickle. While they are thugs working for Joker and Penguin respectively, they have their own gimmicks with them being one-armed formerly-conjoined twins, and Russians who wield a hammer and a large sickle. In the post-game the two of them reunite and vow to sew themselves back together, to continue their crimes without working for any other villains. Arkham Origins is a weird one, because if you look into it it technically features Holiday, the villain from the comic story The Long Halloween, though this fact is well-obscured. Alberto Falcone, Holiday's secret identity in the comics, is seen being tortured by Penguin. If you collect Enigma's data packs you unlock audio logs of Alberto, in one of which he threatens someone who doesn't know it's him over the phone in a weird voice. This very strongly and deliberately suggests that he has taken on the identity of Holiday, meaning Holiday is low-key in the game. We all know the fourth game's titular Arkham Knight doesn't deserve a spot though. Rocksteady really gave us a damn reskinned Red Hood after specifically promising they wouldn't do exactly that 💀

A few minor nitpicks tho, i believe roxy rocket first appeared in the animated series, and that comic you showed was a tie in, although maybe the comic came out before she appeared in the show, idk. The other is some of the villains are kinda other characters villains, such as vertigo, at least if you consider him a version of count vertigo, and the clock king. A lot of these villains may sound ridiculous, but keep in mind that Batman comes from _Detective_ Comics (DC). It's not unheard of for psychopaths to have a single fixation/obsession. When done correctly (read, not Batman 66, as much as I love it), these originally goofy villains can become downright terrifying! Knowing someone like that could be out there killing innocent people is quite unnerving.
